How to make muffins people want to buy?

I'm quite good with making baked stuff that tastes nice but rubbish at making it look good.
I'd like to make some muffins for a cake sale, but no idea what sort and how to make them look edible. Help please!

For a school cake sale? Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate! Perhaps with some Haribo Star Mix as decorations

Yes for school :)
But last time I made some my cakes were practically the last to sell. I've ordered a proper muffin tin now, I suspect the cases going splodge didn't help.
Any good recipes please?

Coloured icing (icing sugar, drop of water, food colour) and sprinkles.

Top sellers at our school cake sale are always fairy cakes with lurid icing and dolly mixture and/or sprinkles on top.

I made these today and they are really nice (I left out the salt as I couldn't find mine for some reason). They are really moist, the only thing was they were very hard to remove from the paper case, I might make them straight in the muffin tin next time, unless you know a tip I can use to help with that Grin

I'm rubbish at baking but have a foolproof muffin recipe:

3 mugs SR Flour
1 mug brown sugar
2 eggs beaten
1.5 mug milk
3/4 mug veg oil
Choc chips

Mix and bake for 20 mins.

I usually do half this. They are so yum.

They look yum slainte but I might try ambis, with a couple of spoons of cocoa powder added. How many does the recipe make ( and how big is a mug?)

Shouldn't matter what size mug you use as long as you use the same one for all ingredients. Maybe not one of those giant novelty Xmas mugs though!

Last school cake sale I made fairy cakes with pink butter cream icing and pink sprinkles - they sold first and I was :o

Yep, any size mug to keep it all relative. I've tried blueberries but choc chip is much better.

I like the simplicity of not getting the scales out.

Cream cheese frosting, piped. Stash a flake in, so it looks like an icecream, will for sure be a hit!

whats really scrummy are plain sponge cupcakes, pipe some jam into the middle, then put two different colours of buttercream in a piping bag and do a lovely big swirl on top followed by some silver little balls, so pretty!

Same as nannycook but with lemon curd in the middle and a crumble topping (can't remember exact recipe for crumble, brown sugar and something I imagine). If you are selling I'd definitely use muffin cases inside the muffin tray, I don't ice muffins, just cupcakes :)

Banana choc chip are my favourite.

I recently made some chocolate ones (chocolate buttercream on top) with a space saucer (you know the fizzy ones), smarties and a fizzy snake on top. Also some strawberry and cream ones (vanilla sponge with strawberries through, strawberry jam inside, vanilla buttercream with a fresh strawberry one top). They all sold within half an hour.

oh, I also saw a lovely victoria sponge with fresh strawberries inside and on the top. It was a smaller size than usual (really cute!) and sold very quickly.

Last year for the cake stall I made tiny (petits fours sized) fairy cakes with plain white glace icing and decorated them with multicoloured sugar shapes. They all sold fast as they were something small and appealing to give to the toddler in the buggy while the grown up got the chocolate cake :)

The muffin tin made a big difference. I made chocolate chip with sour cherry. Scrumptious!
Dd clearly thought they were good. I sent her off to buy me a cake and she bought me one of mine not realising that it was one I'd made Grin

got another yummy one for you all, melt some dark brown sugar with butter, then add a tin of condensed milk gently, very gently boli for few mins to thicken, leave to cook, make some chocolate cupcakes, pipe caramel into the middle, dip in melted chocolate and to with big chunk of flake, soooooo yummmmmy!

Stupid question -- how do you pipe caramel/jam into a fairy cake? Do you need a special syringe? And do you do it when the cakes are cooked? (Sorry for the hijack, Ohyou!)
