I'm trying to lose the last bit of baby weight and can't think of a nice hot, low fat meal I could eat!

I'm not a salad person and I'm running out of ideas! Any suggestions please?

Spaghetti bolognaise with quorn mince instead of beef is pretty low fat.

Or spaghetti with garlic and oil is yum too.

Soup is an idea and I do have it for lunch but find it gets a bit boring. Plus I can't get hubby to have it for dinner and he needs to lose weight too!

Is Quorn mince tasty? Thinking of fussy hubby and his eating habits

cherrypieplum · 10/06/2012 15:20

It's not quite the same but I like it :) The sausages are an acquired taste too. I've sometimes made a quorn batch and meat batch of the chilli. Or maybe half and half might work?

I shall dig out the recipe now!

I wouldn't worry too much about the fat but instead concentrate on reducing the amount of carbs you have with a meal eg. have 3 scrambled eggs on one slice of toast, rather than 2 scrambled eggs on two slices, sorta thing.

kbjb · 10/06/2012 15:24

Bibbity carbs is my downfall. I immediately think bread or potatoes when I'm hungry. Salads don't fill me up and I crave carbs

What bibbitibob suggest
Cut the carbs, rev up the protein and spice and bulk up with veg and pulses

HappyCamel · 10/06/2012 15:27

I do roughly half and half 5% fat beef mince and dried soya mince soaked in beef stock.

Cooking techniques help too, for example frying in a non stick pan with one cal spray and draining the fat off meat and grilling on a rack so fat drains. I found portion control makes the biggest difference though and I had over three stone to lose.

maybenow · 10/06/2012 15:47

Turkey mince chilli is yummy and low fat. I have with a small portion of oven-baked wedges.

If you love your carbs try different veg cooked as you would potatoes - baked sweet potato, roast swede, mashed neeps, mashed cauliflower.

cherrypieplum · 10/06/2012 16:18

I love my carbs and lost loads of weight on slimming world eating more carbs than protein and lots of veg.

Oooh turkey mince is brill for making burgers. My DH gets a spicy meatball mix and makes great big spicy burgers. We have that with oven-baked wedges and baked beans with some chilli and spring onions stirred in.

PullUpAPew · 10/06/2012 16:20

I've just made veggie lasagne, you do double tomato/veg sauce and leave out the bechamel, then put fromage frais and a bit of cheese on top. It smells nice, will be ready in ten mins hopefully!

cherrypieplum · 10/06/2012 18:46

750g turkey breast fillets
large onion
4 cloves garlic (crushed)
1tbsp fresh thyme
60ml lemon juice
125ml low fat evap milk
125ml chicken stock
1tsp cornflour mixed with 1 tsp water

  1. Cook turkey in pan til browned, remove and put to one side.
  2. Add garlic, onion, lemon to same pan until onion soft.
Add milk, stock, thyme and cornflour.
  1. Stir and cook til sauce boils and thickens slightly.
  2. Return turkey to the pan and season.

I usually chuck in some green took like spinach.

HerMajestyQueenHillyzabethII · 10/06/2012 18:51

No.

JimmyMacWhenAreYouComingBack · 10/06/2012 18:54

Agreed.

Quotationist · 10/06/2012 18:58

Chachouka?

Slice some peppers and an onion, slowly fry in oil with cumin seeds, add tinned tomatoes, sliced garlic & smoked paprika. Cook on a low heat for about 10 mins, then transfer to an oven proof dish. Make a couple of wells, crack in two eggs, bake until as set as you like. I normally have it with tabbouleh or flatbreads.

cherrypieplum · 10/06/2012 18:59

That sounds really good Quotationist!

bibbitybobbityhat · 10/06/2012 19:02
