Last time we did the Rainforest cafe, which was great but looking for somewhere different. DD 9 and DS 3. Anyone have any good suggestions? Thanks.

I like it

Earlybird · 10/02/2006 21:09

Anyone taken kids to the Hard Rock Cafe on Picadilly? Wondering if it's a possibility as places like the Rainforest Cafe will be bursting at the seams next week....

maomao · 10/02/2006 21:09

There's also the Hampstead Creperie near the Science Museum/Nat. History Museum, which my dd (3) and her cousins (6,9) really enjoyed.

Marina · 10/02/2006 21:10

Dd eats the menu and ds the chicken yakitori
They both like those little duck pasties as well

spacedonkey · 10/02/2006 21:11

There's a Carluccio's Caffe near South Ken tube which is lovely

Gingerbear · 10/02/2006 21:12

I want to go to Wagamamas. My nearest branch is Nottingham! (45.2 miles apparently)
Well, at least there is a good Vietnamese Noodle bar now in Doncaster.

Isn't there a Blue Kangaroo cafe in London?

ScummyMummy · 10/02/2006 21:14

We've taken our sons to the new wagamamas you mention earlybird. They like it- there's a kids menu so easyish to choose something kid-friendly.

Bodeans in Poland Street, Soho is great for kids, detta.

bossykate · 10/02/2006 21:15

oh yes, bodeans! although dh is the main fan...

Marina · 10/02/2006 21:17

Bodeans! Anyone feel a meet-up coming on. Love it.

bossykate · 10/02/2006 21:18

i think Gourmet Burger Kitchen is great.

Marina · 10/02/2006 21:18

And the Ozer branches. Check you have the same number of kids on leaving that you went in with, the staff there are quite capable of dotingly smuggling yours into the kitchens...
Mini baklavas for small girls a speciality

Earlybird · 10/02/2006 21:21

I've always meant to try Rotisserie Jules with dd as it's not far from South Ken tube, which means relatively close to the museums. Anyone been, and was it good? Imagine cuisine is child friendly, but what about atmosphere and price?

Scummy - have you tried the ice skating nearby? DD is still a bit young for it, but your boys are a different story, IIRC....

ScummyMummy · 10/02/2006 21:22

Snap, bk!
How adventurous are your kids foodwise, detta? One of mine LOVED Yo Sushi- he really likes fish. The other was horrified. But they both enjoyed the conveyer belt and raw fish detester was eventually persuaded to try a bit of pineapple when we promised him it wasn't fish. So a mixed success but quite a good family occasion in a way.

bossykate · 10/02/2006 21:22

not to mention tas - another turkish mini-chain.

ScummyMummy · 10/02/2006 21:23

yes- we've all donned the sexy orange skates in recent weeks! I really love the new stuff round here, actually. So nice having a better selection of shops on the doorstep.

Marina · 10/02/2006 21:23

I meant Tas,
Ozer is nice though too

maomao · 10/02/2006 21:24

Oh yes, Tas is great, too! There's one right by the British Museum.

soapbox · 10/02/2006 21:25

Scummy - mine love Yo Sushi - but it is ruinously expensive as my DCs little hands go out everytime anything interesting passes them by.

OTOH, I'm a cheap date there, I adore their chicken noodle soup, and at £3.50 a go, it is a bargain!

ScummyMummy · 10/02/2006 21:26

Eds and the Big Easy (pricey tho) are other good American style places. Or the Texas Cantina off Trafalgar Square? Food not stunning but certainly up to Rainforest cafe standards (says she sniffily!)

bossykate · 10/02/2006 21:26

here you go cafe sofra - ozer is the more upmarket branch.

hoxtonchick · 10/02/2006 21:26

soapbox! he did pretty well considering it took them about 10 years to bring his noodles. dd (7.5 months) has now graduated onto slurping too.

hi maomao, long time no speak .

Mercy · 10/02/2006 21:27

Marine Ices?

ScummyMummy · 10/02/2006 21:27

Yes- that is a drawback of all sushi places, isn't it soaps?

Arabica · 10/02/2006 21:45

There is a brilliant conveyor-belt sushi place at Liverpool St station--watch the sushi AND the trains all at once! They have other branches too.

Detta · 13/02/2006 17:35

Sorry for not replying sooner - have had hideous spyware infection (really sounds like I should visit my GP, doesn't it??) Thanks for all your suggestions. DP loves Japanese food, and DD loves fish, so maybe one of the sushi bars would be good. We're planning on visiting Science Museum for the day on thurs, but will be staying in Docklands area on Weds night, so anything that way-ish would be good. Making me hungry just thinking about it! Hurrah. I love London.
