Find me some coffee icecream, please, I'm desperate!

It's my one serious vice and Tesco have just discontinued their Finest Colombian Coffee at two x litre tubs for £5 :( Can only find Waitrose - too sweet, tiny tubs at twice the price. No other brands round here (midlands) and I NEED coffee icecream. Please don't suggest making it. Tried and failed.

Googled and Starbucks came up, but I've never seen icecream tubs on sale in there. Marshfield also came up but no retailers near me.

Can anyone help?

Lurk.

Carte d'or do a nice one, possibly called lavazza latte machiato or some such! Coffee is my favourite flavour so I'm too busy getting it open to fully take in what the packaging says, sorry!

How about plain vanilla with splash of coffee baileys? Means buying coffee baileys if course, but would last ages.

lesterlassone · 13/03/2012 09:41

seb1 - shame this company is for catering outlets only - I would actually have considered buying this amount. It would do me for a couple of weeks.

And 1944 girl, how on earth do you "stir in" a spoonful of coffee - this implies a stirrable consistency, i.e. melted, and this is not the effect I like! But thank you for taking time to reply. Keep searching :)

Unable to find a stockist of the coffee Carte D'or locally. Will have to travel further afield now I guess, if that's my only option.

How about affogato? It's where you get a scoop of vanilla and pour over a freshly made espresso. It's really nice with Mackay's vanilla icecream. Anyway it's not sickly because of course the espresso is quite bitter, so it balances out. Also, it sort of melts and then refreezes a bit. Highly delicious.

seb1 · 13/03/2012 09:50

We can buy that make in ASDA. Grin

mmmmmchocolate · 13/03/2012 09:57

Sainsburys stock the coffee carte Do'r (well at least they used to)

Haagen Datz used to do one called cappuccino chip, coffee ice cream with chunks of dark choc in it. Mmmmmmm. What I wouldn't give for another tub :(

You could try making it? Google Ina Garten coffee ice cream. Her stuff always looks fattening delicious!

lesterlassone · 13/03/2012 10:09

Sorry to all those suggesting pouring coffee over vanilla - IT'S NOT THE SAME AND NEVER WILL BE (can you tell I want my Tesco Colombian back?)

Seb - well it's not stocked at Asda around here. Are you closer to the manufacturer in Glasgow?

Can't find Haagen Datz coffee either (and anyway, it's corrupted with "large chunks of chocolate" according to the blurb, so still not as good as the discontinued Tesco).

Will pick up some Carte d'Or at lunchtime for a trial run and try to ignore the "tiny chocolate flakes" it apparantly contains. Desperate times!

And going back to original question - does anyone know of Starbucks selling icecream? I've never been in one and think maybe that's just for USA shops?

Shock tesco stopped the coffee ice cream

wildstrawberryplace · 13/03/2012 10:17

Vietnamese Coffee Ice Cream

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups of strongly brewed coffee/or espresso
1 1/2 cups of condensed milk
    1/2 cup double cream
    big pinch of ground coffee

Directions:

Mix all of the ingredients together in a bowl until well incorporated. Chill the mixture thoroughly in your refrigerator.
Using the directions that your ice cream maker has, churn the ice cream. Enjoy immediately for a more soft serve texture or freeze for a few hours to enjoy as a scoopable ice cream.

Or if no ice cream machine, pour chilled mixture into shallow plastic tub and freeze, removing at regular intervals to whisk the ice crystals in.

wildstrawberryplace · 13/03/2012 10:18

Yes. No ice cream in UK Starbucks (yet)

lesterlassone · 13/03/2012 10:18

Oh Mousquetaire it's so unfair. I know Tesco need to review product policies etc but if we had some warning of discontinuation I could at least have filled the freezer to keep me going before finding a replacement. Now I just have to go "cold" turkey :(

Baskin robbins Jamoca look in seasonal flavours any good?

lesterlassone · 13/03/2012 14:27

Seb - thank you for persevering. For me, the nearest seller of Baskin Robbins ice-cream is apparently a cinema! And you know just how much you pay for a tiny tub of icecream in those places ......

Jamoca sounds good but I also bet it's not available everywhere like strawberry or chocolate flavours!

Just been in Tesco, as part of their replacement range they are doing a "Caffe latte" flavour, coffee ice cream with a columbian coffee flavour ripple. It's £2 introductory offer but smaller 500ml carton. Better than nothing?

lesterlassone · 14/03/2012 11:42

Oh really Wildstrawberry? If this is rolled out to all stores then it may be my saving grace :) I tried the Carte D'or last night (BOGOF at Waitrose) but have to report there is very little coffee flavour and I'm not keen on the little bits of chocolate either.

So WHY couldn't Tesco tell me about a "replacement" range and spare my angst and withdrawal symptoms! Or is it just an excuse to halve the size of cartons and re-brand?

Beanbagz · 14/03/2012 14:58

I have half a tub of Finest Colombian in the freezer [demands large ransom Grin] because no one really likes it.

However I've just been on Tesco's website and came across this which i assume will be it's replacement. No picture yet but better than pouring coffee over vanilla ice cream which qite frankly is A WASTE OF GOOD COFFEE!

Beanbagz · 14/03/2012 15:00

Or Sainsbury's have this boutique ice cream - their words not mine!

Beanbagz · 14/03/2012 15:01

And also the Carte D'or altenative

lesterlassone · 16/03/2012 10:21

Hi Beanbagz - well hopefully all will be well in my world from this evening! I'm off to Tesco to try the re-branded, smaller tub at twice the price then going to Sainsburys for some of that boutique stuff - although I can't believe it will work out at almost £9 for a litre! It may turn out to be delicious, but at that price will have to reserved for a treat :(

Now what can I swap you for that half tub in your freezer ......

The coffee ice cream from this company is really good.

LurkingBibbity: scroll down this link for details of http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2011/oct/09/jay-rayner-brixton-village-unit a fantastic artisan ice cream maker in Brixton Village where they sell you takeaway ice cream in an insulated chiller box. I had some nice coffee ice cream from there, but I think they change the flavours regularly.
