I'm gonna make a sarcher torte

MrsChemist · 16/03/2012 10:42

Oooh cunning, I've wanted to make one of those since seeing it on the great British bake off.

TheCunningStunt · 16/03/2012 11:28

Let's do it! I am torn between it and a Mississippi mud pie....

MrsChemist · 16/03/2012 12:33

It was the final technical challenge, so I don't imagine it will be easy. Hence putting it off.

It looked so good though. Here is the GBBO recipe.

I've never made Mississippi Mud Pie either.

TheCunningStunt · 16/03/2012 14:40

That's the recipe I will be using. DS however selected the mud pie to make..using this www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/mississippimudpie_93659

So shall try that first.

Hello Kenwood devotees, could someone help me with which stand mixer I need? I'd be using it for some heavy duty cake making. My head was briefly turned by the Kitchenaid thread, but it seems the Kenwoods might be better value for money. The Kitchenaid is beautiful but I just can't afford it.

This seems a good bet, but I have no idea what separates the various models. Is the Prospero a compact version?

wem · 16/03/2012 16:16

Sorry, here's the and missing from my previous post :)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 16/03/2012 16:24

Hello Wem - I think you would need the Chef rather than the Prospero, which is for light domestic use really, but not too sure what separates the various Chef models. MrsC has a Chef I believe?

VikingVagine · 16/03/2012 16:41

Hello wem I think a Prospero might be a little to wimpish for what you want, it's great for smaller cakes and other such things, but if you are going to be making bigger quantities you'd need at least a kenwood chef.

We've all bought the Prospero to quench our kitchen porn lust until we all suddenly become very rich and can buy the titanium (which should happen very soon because the chances of winning the lottery are so high).

Thanks both of you. I'll be asking for Amazon vouchers for my birthday then :)

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 16/03/2012 17:11

Hello fellow prosperinos, sorry not been around much of late......combination of being self employed and trying to get my backlog done quickly in order to have a week off!!!

I've been using Eddie loads.....we've made the skinny muffins I linked to up thread, fairy cakes, banana muffins (from the Dora cookbooks, with DD), cookies, shortcrust pastry for a quiche.....the list goes on.

How are you all?

VikingVagine · 16/03/2012 17:26

I medically need to make something with Woody this weekend, I'm having withdrawal symptoms! I'm liking the talk about mud pies...

I have a vair nice Victoria Sponge with cream and jam in my kitchen at present Smile

Honeydragon · 16/03/2012 18:40

I'm going to get kicked off the thread for this but if it's solely for cake mixing and lots of it, I'd go KA

TheCunningStunt · 16/03/2012 18:50

HoneyShock no need for thatWink

Mud pie tomorrow or Sunday

VikingVagine · 16/03/2012 19:28

I don't think you can really compare the KA to the Prospero though, if I had had more money to spend then I might well have been tempted by a KA because they are much prettier than the Prosperos , kind of like saying should I get a Peugeot or a BMW?

OP posts:
Honeydragon · 16/03/2012 19:32

No Prospero is a different machine altogether

Jins · 16/03/2012 19:43

I was on the verge of getting the prospero because of the extra stuff it did but I got a KA for Xmas.

Kenwood for multi-tasking everytime. KA for cakes definitely. My mum has a Chef and the KA knocks spots off it for cakes.

wem · 16/03/2012 21:43

Ah dammit Jins, really? I guess I'll be saving up my pennies fir a while then.

Honeydragon · 16/03/2012 22:00

Sorry Wem Sad but it'll be worth the investment Smile

Grockle · 18/03/2012 15:38

I've used my prospero for pastry, bread and cakes this weekend - bread was a bit solid but I think I didn't leave it to rise a second time long enough. And when it made pastry, it left big lumps of butter which I couldn't be arsed to do by hand but the pastry turned out fine anyway and saved me lots of bother. All good Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/03/2012 18:12

Well, I haven't used Mr Mixer this weekend, but I did make some lovely pikelets (needed minimal mixing but a bigger bowl for rising in than the Prospero one). Very tasty indeed.

Perfect Pikelets

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 18/03/2012 19:19

My Eddie has been hard at work today! 2 batches of cupcakes...some for us and some with, ahem, witty slogans written in those Dr Oetker sugar letter things for DH to take into work and also some pastry for a quiche for tea! He handled it all no problem, just a shame the same cannot be said for me

Somersaults · 19/03/2012 10:29

Well Joe is having a nice rest while I'm on my hols visiting family in Australia!

I am going to be baking whilst I'm here though for a kid's birthday party so whoever posted the Nutella frosting recipe, what cake would you recommend putting it on? Chocolate? Or basic vanilla sponge?

I quite fancied making the amazing frosting but without Joe I think it requires far too much beating by hand!

VikingVagine · 19/03/2012 18:28

So, tonight it's tarte aux pommes. Woody has watched me slice up the apples, melt the butter and sugar, caramelise the apples and ... Roll out the ready made puff pastry DH bought. Biscuit
