That would have been too easy SOUPY!

sunchowder · 26/01/2006 20:28

Yes NBG PERFECT!

SoupDragon · 26/01/2006 20:29

Snigger

Although I think my pot of baking powder suggests 3tsp per 8oz flour for a sponge cake.

Nbg · 26/01/2006 20:29

PMSL.

This cake better be bloody good now.

I rarely use SR flour BTW. Just add the baking powder to plain and it doesn't taste funny at all.

ScoffedTooManyMaccyDsLady · 26/01/2006 20:30

If the cake is no good then blame Soupy!

SoupDragon · 26/01/2006 20:32

No, because I said 3tsp, Sunchowder said 2. If it doesn't rise it's all her fault

sunchowder · 26/01/2006 20:33

I don't use SR Flour either--my Mum never used it, I have always added my own baking powder to it. The worst that can happen NBG is that is comes out flat and hard as a rock, but I am sure it will taste delicious with a bit of cream!!!

SoupDragon · 26/01/2006 20:33

Would you like fries with that?

sunchowder · 26/01/2006 20:34

I will take complete and utter responsibility for this cock-up NBGI was using my book which has substitutions in itdidn't even think to check the container. Hope it all turns out well.....

Nbg · 26/01/2006 20:36

Ok so after all that, I pour my flour, baking powder and sugar in the bowl to find I only have 4oz of fecking marg left

Oh piss!

OP posts:
sunchowder · 26/01/2006 20:37

Use Vegetable OIL???

SoupDragon · 26/01/2006 20:37

pmsl!

Can you substitute oil? Obviously not Castrol GTX...

Nbg · 26/01/2006 20:38

Really?

Enough to make up the 9oz?

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 26/01/2006 20:38

Snap!

My book of muffin recipes offers you the choice between using oil or melted butter/marg.

SoupDragon · 26/01/2006 20:39

Can't help thinking you should give this up though!!

sunchowder · 26/01/2006 20:39

Yes, yes NBG! Substitute away with the oil, now you will have an oily slab to contend with! By the way, did you check to see if you have any lemon?

Really the oil will work just fine.

Nbg · 26/01/2006 20:39

It will have to be both here. Haven't enough oil to do it all.

It's like mother Hupboards here.

If I eat this cake it will be a miracle

pmsl NBG... the first rule of cooking is always make sure you get the ingredients out FIRST!

i learned this the hard way. took me several attmepts to ge it too!

SoupDragon · 26/01/2006 20:40

The muffin book seems to imply a 1fl oz = 1 oz conversion.

Nbg · 26/01/2006 20:41

No I shall break the barriers of Lemon Drizzle Cake substitutions....

Watch this oily powdery space...

OP posts:
sunchowder · 26/01/2006 20:42

I'm afraid to give you any more measurements (she says shaking in her apron...). I am dying to know if this is going to come out, you will have to update us NBG. This is the highlight of my afternoon. You might be able to subsititute oranges for the lemons if you don't have any!

starlover · 26/01/2006 20:43

waiting for nbg to come back and announce that she's made a lovely onion and oil cake

sunchowder · 26/01/2006 20:44

Good one Starlover!

sunchowder · 26/01/2006 20:49

Oh Shit NBG, what size tin are you using? Not a bread loaf tin??? You need something with more space for the batter to spread out. I don't know what sizes you have...
