InTheZenGarden · 13/02/2012 16:49

..... but I have had a bunch (?) delivered in my veg box.

Just tried eating some raw, in case my tastes have matured, but they have not. Still bleurggh.

Anyone got any great recipes that makes it taste nice?

If not, I shall I just give it to my in-laws, who like it for some reason Confused Grin

Slather it in garlic and cheese and bake til it looks a bit burnt at the edges - then it doesn't taste like celery and can be eaten!! I agree it is foul uncooked!!

flamingtoaster · 13/02/2012 16:56

Waldorf Salad?

In a stew?

I use it in Jamie O's Jules' Favourite Beef Stew.

NannyR · 13/02/2012 17:03

Adding a little bit to things like stew and bolognese makes them really tasty but you only need half a stick and you end up with the rest of the bunch going soggy at the bottom of the fridge. I've started chopping the whole bunch up pretty finely and frying it, then freezing it. Add a few tablespoons straight from the freezer to your bolognese.

Indith · 13/02/2012 17:04

Stews, bolognase etc. Or feed it to my dd. She can make it vanish in no time.

Correctmeifiamwrong · 13/02/2012 17:05

Celery soup? I cant stand the stuff but in soup it's not too bad.

Tiredtrout · 13/02/2012 17:07

With peanut butter and salt down the big groovy bit. Or chopped up tiny and used as a filler in things like bolognese, cottage pie and stews

AChickenCalledKorma · 13/02/2012 17:54

Can't stand it either, but I agree with chop it up really tiny so you can hardly taste it and add to soups, stews etc as a filler. Alternatively, I give it to DH who is the only one who can stomach it raw. Like the sound of ByTheWay's recipe, though.

InTheZenGarden · 13/02/2012 20:10

Thanks for your suggestions :)

I have so much of the damn stuff, I am going to be brave and try By The Way's idea, garlic and cheese can never do any harm. And as many others have said, the rest I will chop finely, fry, and freeze in teensy portions to add to bolognese.

And will immediately add it to my dislikes list on Abel and Cole! (unless I love it baked!)

Dip it in dips that you like. Dip it so throughly that it is merely a conduit for you to eat the dip with.

AnnoyingOrange · 13/02/2012 20:28

I'm not a fan of raw celery, but it is surprisingly palatable when stuffed with tuna mayo and chopped into bitesized chunks

Francagoestohollywood · 13/02/2012 20:35

Thinly chopped celery, together with carrot and onion in stews, and bolognese. Also add to minestrone soups.

Also lovely in salads, say sliced celery, salad leaf and walnut (and maybe blue cheese)

Again raw: combine gorgonzola (or blue cheese) with mascarpone. Fill the celery.

I love raw celery!

GlitterKitty · 13/02/2012 20:35

send it to me. celery & tomato sandwiches on brown bread with lots of pepper mmm

GlitterKitty · 13/02/2012 20:36

celery & fennel soup

Quodlibet · 13/02/2012 20:37

There's an Ottolenghi recipe that looks lush in this weekends guardian magazine for cauliflower and celery pasta - I know it sounds weird but I reckon it'd be loverly.

Another recipe that calls for celery is greek gigantes - giant beans cooked in a tomatoey sauce, delicious.

Selks · 13/02/2012 20:38

Celery, peanut butter and chili soup, African style. Make with a stock cube and whizz in blender. Very good.

ByTheWay1 · 13/02/2012 21:02

Let me know how you get on with the garlic/cheese recipe - works best with a mix of cheddar and double Gloucester (the double Gloucester goes browner and has that yummy crispiness if you let it go over the edge) I use the "lazy" garlic from a jar and the longer you can bear to leave it in the oven the better.

malakadoush · 13/02/2012 21:07

Guinea pigs love it - pass it this way and I'll give it to ours!

canyou · 13/02/2012 21:11

Don't forget that you use more energy to eat celery then it provides so in my head that means celery plus yummy calorific dips equals zero calories

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 13/02/2012 22:09

Give it straight to the in laws and make sure you're not going round there for dinner soon.

The devil's own food, as you say.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 13/02/2012 22:12

Put it into food colouring and watch it get coloured stripy xylem.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 13/02/2012 22:19

Now that's much more interesting.

Give it to toddlers to play drums with?

fluffywhitekittens · 13/02/2012 22:19

Your first post was correct.
It is the food of the devil.
Everything you do with it WILL STILL TASTE OF CELERY
Give it away.
Tell them never to darken your door/veg box ever again.

MrsChemist · 13/02/2012 22:21

Hellery!

NormanTheForeman · 13/02/2012 22:24

Whatever you do with it, it will still taste like celery. Bleeeurgghhh!!! I'd give it away.........
