Every child loves pasta so....

Annabelle Karmel my arse.

If I buy/borrow another book that tells me stupid crap like this, i'm going to lose it.

Every single book on parenting, food, sleep behaviour, I have bought or borrowed from the Library, is either just incorrect or common sense parenting disguised as a some sort of new revelation.

every child does not love pasta. my child won't eat it. every child does not love orange juice squirted onto everything...

and regarding the sleep books.... I'm sick of reading books from some sort of white-teethed cheesy american spouting simple common sense like it's some sort of revalation.

chapters include:

  1. why sleep is important for your child (no shit sherlock)

  2. why your child should get a balanced diet (ditto)

  3. before bed routines (f**king common sense - relaxing atmosphere, bath, story... FFS who doesn't know that!!)

i'm really getting pissed off

Annabel Karmel is mental. She has spent too long making faces from salad items on mashed potato.

DaddyCool · 23/01/2006 15:41

her book is idiotic. it's for dumb-asses who can't make a piece of toast or boil an egg.

she never once, in her book, suggests techniques on getting your child to eat some of her spew.

i also bought (i'm such an idiot) a book by some american called the 'no cry sleep solution' or some sh*t like that.

this silly arse was putting her toddler to bed at 10pm and wondered why the hell he was being such a horrible little beast during the day! lol

she clued in eventually after seeing a variety of doctors and speaking to professionals and decided that she must spread the good word and write a book about it.... which should be entitled 'common sense for dumb-asses'.

Oh yes, she does, DC, she suggests you spend your entire life making special meals at special times and 'time enough to get used to regular mealtimes when they go to school' and ARRRGGGGGHHHH.

motherinferior · 23/01/2006 15:46

Apparently she does offer Mister Karmel a choice of several different meals every night, though, think of that. Don't know about life chez Cool, but here in the Inferiority Complex one of us shambles into the kitchen and the other damn well eats what's produced.

harpsichordcarrier · 23/01/2006 15:47

and the list of ingredients for everything is sooooooooo long I mean who has the time really???
it#s all a conspiracy to keep us tied to the cooker and away from mumsnet

motherinferior · 23/01/2006 15:48

She also instructs you not to feed your toddler bought sausages and to make them. WTF??

Life is too short to stuff a sausage skin.

Oh god, am still reeling from Oaten thread, even that looks dodgy to me

VeniVidiVickiQV · 23/01/2006 15:49

What prompted you to buy these books then DC?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 23/01/2006 15:50

MI!

AnnieSG · 23/01/2006 15:50

Hunkermunker, your post made me laugh out loud!

DaddyCool · 23/01/2006 15:50

motherinferior - i eat everything and anything . there are teeth marks on our kitchen table!

(too bad ds doesn't take after me)

DaddyCool · 23/01/2006 15:51

Veni - what prompted me to buy these books?

because I struggle and so does DW. We find all this sooo difficult and we buy the books thinking they'll have the answers.

Ah ha! Cheaper to watch super nanny or house of tiny tearaways on tv!

Seriously though, i havent read any of these books except for GF and she was so far up her own backside i stopped less than half way through.

You are right, they all state the bloody obvious but think they are so clever for doing so.

There are worse ones, DC, every time something happens, I find myself sending for crap like "Raising your Spirited Child" off Amazon...

DaddyCool · 23/01/2006 16:03

slightly cod but he's still limited on the food front.

i caught your thread the other day using the sticker method and I really like that but he's just too small to get it.

This is all he'll eat:

wheatabix (constantly)
fish fingers
chick nuggets (oh great)
strawberries
nectarines
satsumas
white toast (sometimes)
tuna sandwiches on brown
bread sticks
cream of tomato soup (thats a new one. found out by accident)
rice cakes

thats about it.

specific brand/type of chicken nuggets? would he notice if you doctored some home made ones?

DaddyCool · 23/01/2006 16:06

oh sorry and:

pieces of dark chicken cut up small
any type of fresh fish in little pieces.

i'm pleased with the fish thing but he can't just have pieces of chicken and fish every single night for dinner.

Cod - he's much better now eating with us. doesn't cause any kind of fuss but he doesn't eat anything other than the meat and possibly sticks his finger in some sort of sauce and licks it.

he won't even look at boiled/roast veg. or veg mashed up like carrot/swede.

he'd notice.

I tried to give him a different brand in a cafe whilst we where out the other day at soft play and he said: "bla!" and pushed it away.

I give him vitamins now.

grated carrot is a good idea. i'll try that.

I don't think the pasta thing will work but anything is worth a try.
