Every child loves pasta so....

Annabelle Karmel my arse.

If I buy/borrow another book that tells me stupid crap like this, i'm going to lose it.

Every single book on parenting, food, sleep behaviour, I have bought or borrowed from the Library, is either just incorrect or common sense parenting disguised as a some sort of new revelation.

every child does not love pasta. my child won't eat it. every child does not love orange juice squirted onto everything...

and regarding the sleep books.... I'm sick of reading books from some sort of white-teethed cheesy american spouting simple common sense like it's some sort of revalation.

chapters include:

  1. why sleep is important for your child (no shit sherlock)

  2. why your child should get a balanced diet (ditto)

  3. before bed routines (f**king common sense - relaxing atmosphere, bath, story... FFS who doesn't know that!!)

i'm really getting pissed off

And did you know you can buy frozen organic chips now?! Honestly - all that's in them is organic potatoes and sunflower oil! They are fabbo and taste like potatoes (as opposed to smiley faces that just don't taste anything like potato)

GDG · 23/01/2006 16:25

Ditto ds2 (dora, brum ,thomas). How old is he? Ds2 is 3 and he is a nightmare - he used to be like a human dustbin but he's hit that annoying age where he just doesn't touch his dinner. I'm ignoring it and he's frequently going to bed with nowt. He'll soon learn!

Have you tried incorporating them into meal times?

Blackduck · 23/01/2006 16:27

DC my ds is about the same age as yours and has (a different) but equally limited range - revolves around carbs - bread, pasta, rice, cheese, wheeties, yoghurt, bananas, raisins, pasta, coscos, sausages, pasta, eggs, potato, pasta, pesto,...
oh and have I mentioned pasta

Mercy · 23/01/2006 16:29

my ds can be a pain re eating too. Last week I gave him some frozen peas to cook in his toy saucepan whilst I cooked dinner. To my complete he ate virtually every pea on his plate. Two days later,I gave him some spaghetti to 'cook', again he ate most of his dinner. It hasn't worked every day but it's worth trying.

Still can't get either of mine to eat potatoes or cheese though

VeniVidiVickiQV · 23/01/2006 16:30

if you can get dora/thomas tank stickers cods thinig might work?

Enid · 23/01/2006 16:32

I would give him cream of tomato soup and tuna fish sandwiches every day until he is sick of them. Pretty nutritious and easy to make.

MummyJules · 23/01/2006 16:33

Really feel for you DaddyCool - I am going through the same thing myself with my DD who is three. I think it is one of the most stressful things I have had to do in my life (which just sounds so stupid) I worry that my child is going to grow up the fussiest eater and become obese because of it. I also buy all the books thinking they will have the magical answers and they all fail, saying that I have been advised to buy a book called 'The Incredible Years' by my health visitor as a last resort before we are booked into see a Child Psychologist! I brought it in on Amazon today so am anxiously awaiting this supposed brilliant book!!

DaddyCool · 23/01/2006 16:38

I wish DW would visit this site. I try to tell her time and time again that though it's annoying and he's pissing us off, it is natural. she just doesn't buy and she's really down on herself about it. I dread dinner time not only because I get annoyed but mostly because DW gets so wound up about it.

dc dd1 is a fussy eater, weighs almost nothing. Her 'problem' is that she likes natrually non-fattening food. She never eats cheese and very little dairy. However dd2 eats like a horse. Its n othing your dw is doing I promise you.

MummyJules · 23/01/2006 16:40

I know my partner seems to think it my fault that she has such bad eating habits which is just so unfair when it is always me giving her the healthiest option and P doing the opposite to get brownie points off D

LeftOverTurkey · 23/01/2006 16:43

Prawns and curry.
ds had obviously read the books on babies supposedly liking bland food and started a (very) premature teenage rebellion.

DaddyCool · 23/01/2006 16:44

no no, i don't think it's dw's fault! I just wish she wouldn't beat herself up about it thinking it is. she thinks she's a bad mum. she really isn't and i'm not just saying that. she's really tough on herself about everything. i just wish she would come on her and realise there are 50,000 other members going through similar problems.

I too have 1 fussy, picky eater and 1 who eats just about everything (except dairy) with gusto.

IT'S NOT US IT'S THEM

DaddyCool · 23/01/2006 16:47

and I need to stop being such a wussy. every 3 or 4 months I start a thread like this and repeat everything I said three months prior. the stress comes in cycles.

Parents right that is! Dora sticker book is good bribe material.

all kids are different. My first - DD - despite all her allergies ate whatever i put in front of her (not so much now but its an age thing).

DS wont even take mashed stuff. Has to be totally pureed and of specific flavour. He wont have bottles/dummies/solids/finger foods anything. Ive done it once before so i cant be going that far wrong IYSWIM.

Please try again to get DW to come and look here.

iota · 23/01/2006 16:50

see worst eater thread here

DaddyCool · 23/01/2006 16:52

I printed it off for DW's enjoyment.
