Tell me which vegetables your toddler will eat

Make me feel better. We did have peas, broad beans and broccoli. Now apparently she doesn't like broccoli any more. Would also tolerate tomato sauces on pasta etc but seems to have gone off them also.

Carrots, cauliflower, baby sweetcorn, green beans. It's the ones which are easy to pick up rather than the ones which are mushy.

notcitrus · 28/11/2011 20:20

Up to 16 months - anything.
Since then - he's now 3.2 - none whatsoever except tomato puree, and pureed tomato-based pasta sauce in very small amounts.

Luckily he will drink fruit smoothies and juice so I try not to worry too much about his limited diet - he's become a bit more willing to at least play with vegetables recently and sometimes even suck or chew them before spitting them out!

SummerLightning · 28/11/2011 20:20

None whatsoever and he hasn't ever! Have not given up though. He's nearly 3.

SummerLightning · 28/11/2011 20:22

Oh yes he will eat tomato ketchup - does that count? And pesto.

An0therName · 28/11/2011 20:22

my DS1 only ate carrots for ages - lots of fruit through -

wonkylegs · 28/11/2011 20:25

Butternut squash (because it's Fireman Sam's favourite foodWink)
Broccoli, peas, snap snap peas (sugarsnap) , sweetcorn, carrots, no salad except raw peppers & cucumber, mushrooms as long as he can't see them (in chilli, stew or bolognaise cut up small)

RockStockAndTwoOpenBottles · 28/11/2011 20:27

DD1 - ate anything until she was about 2, then bugger all apart from peas, sweetcorn, tomatoes, potatoes and cucumber. Now 18 and has bravely added broccoli and parsnips Hmm

DD2 - fussy fucker until 4 then ate anything until 12, at which point she reverted to fussy fucker once again. Now 17 and will eat most.

DS - is 15 and has always eaten anything apart from parsnips, peas and uncooked tomatoes Hmm

DD3 - is 2.9 and will eat pretty much everything one month and then refuse stuff the next before declaring whatever she has refused to once again be her favourite. Odd child.

anthonytrollopesrevenge · 28/11/2011 20:55

DS ate everything until he was nearly 4. Once his sister was born he went on fruit and veg strike for about 2 years. Now 9 he's slowly improving and eats carrots, sweetcorn, sweet potato (as mash only), tomato sauce, onions and not a lot else. I can add peppers and anything to the Tom sauce, as long as it's not green. Nothing green will pass his lips. Luckily he does eat apples, pears, mango and bananas too. Also drinks a few types of smoothie.

DD eats most fruit and veg and loves strawberries, carrots, broccoli and smoothies and will eat them by the bowl full.

BarbieDahl · 28/11/2011 21:02

Don't worry I didn't eat any veg except potatoes until about the age of 20. Did eat lots of fruit though.

debka · 29/11/2011 00:15

2.9yo DD refuses spinach and all raw salad, not keen on cauliflower but will eat everything else, if she's in the mood/feeling obliging. She refuses nearly all fruit now too, having been a great fruit eater. She'll grow out of it (I hope)

startail · 29/11/2011 01:00

Sweet corn, carrots, courgette if chopped very fine, tomato based sauces, that's it.
Absolutely refuses lettuce, fresh tomatoes or any other variety of salad. She just has apples and grapes instead.
She's 10 and is very slowly letting me make savoury dishes more interesting, chicken korma is allowed as was a packet of chow-main sauce yesterday, but she is really hard work.
DD1 is a dream, she'll eat anything except cauliflower.

FreddieMercurysBolero · 29/11/2011 01:09

DS is 2.5 and eats carrots, butter squash, parsnips, peas, sweetcorn, broccoli, and anything I puree into a tomatoey sauce, or cover in pesto. He did have a seriously fussy phase last year, for about 6 months, and I would make him homemade versions of the else's baby pouches, with about 1 third veg to 2 thirds fruit, mixed with cous cous, if that helps!

DoctorGilbertson · 29/11/2011 01:18

DS(3.4): Frozen sweetcorn in a bowl at 4.30pm in front of the TV after he comes home from nursery while he waits for me to cook tea. He ate a raw tomato a few months ago. I nearly fell off my chair.

DD(2): Anything. Strange child.

dreamingbohemian · 29/11/2011 01:45

DS (19 mo) will eat pretty much any veg as long as it's pureed (or a sauce, loves bolognese). But that's literally the only way I can get him to eat any!

I do them pretty basic but my MIL adds salmon, cream and parmesan to hers and he absolutely hoovers it up Smile

Tinkerisdead · 29/11/2011 07:30

None. Nada. Zilch.

She's 3. What's more galling is i did blw and she ate anything and everything. She hit 2 and a switch went off. Sometimes she may try a carrot or pea but spits it out. I even rented a house with massive veg patch to encourage her but nope. Even fruit she picks at, will only eat grapes apple and strawberries. Ive started giving her kids vitamins as even hiding stuff doesnt work as she declares it all yucky.

yawningmonster · 29/11/2011 07:55

absolutely everything and anything if it is in a casserole, almost nothing if it is on it's own!!! So I can have obvious chunks of potato, onion, leek, mushroom, courgette, capsicum, tomato, corn, kumara, pumpkin, carrot etc etc in the casserole and she will eat it without a mummer. Make her a meal with roasted, steamed, stirfried or boiled veges in the same sized chunks and she will not eat them

HSMM · 29/11/2011 07:59

Veg can sometimes be hidden in mashed potato - green mash, pink mash, orange mash, etc Grin

minervaitalica · 29/11/2011 08:01

Frankly, it depends on the week: one day she will have everything, one day it's only mushrooms, one day it's nothing. Your DC sound normal to me: I just keep offering everything we eat, and I know she will eventually have something.

SpottyTeacakes · 29/11/2011 08:10

Dd will eat anything and everything. She is only 17 months though so I am fully expecting this to change! I agree that puréeing into a pasta sauce is a great way to get veg into them whilst they are going through a fussy stage

kmdwestyorks · 29/11/2011 08:11

generally okay with root veg and the brassicas. Salad veg has always been rejected.

mostly i seem have a meat and fish eater, veg are only eaten on sufference with a pudding bribe except raw mushrooms, there always a race as to how many i can prepare for cooking and how many she can eat raw Confused

Staverton · 29/11/2011 08:31

Yawningmonster my dd is exactly the same. Weird isn't it. How old is yours?

ruddynorah · 29/11/2011 08:33

Any. Dd is 5, ds is 2.

moonbells · 29/11/2011 08:36

DS (4) will eat carrots, broccoli, sweetcorn (nibs and on the cob), petits pois (though not the big, hard tasteless peas!) and he will raid the fridge for mushrooms. He adores them, raw or cooked, and always has.

Tomatoes he'll only eat the seeds of (sucks them out and passes me the outer shell Hmm) but he will eat cucumber.

Pascha · 29/11/2011 08:39

The Boy is only 14 months and so far he will try anything, with carrots and peas a favourite. Any tomatoey sauces are good too. The only complete failure is broccoli which just gets lobbed.

Fruit is another thing altogether. Banana sometimes ok, blueberries generally fine, other fruits go the same way as broccoli. Hmm

SkiBumMum · 29/11/2011 08:39

DD2.10
Peas by the ton - especially still frozen
Ditto sweetcorn, but also loves corn on cob
Broccoli "trees"
Cauliflower if covered in cheese sauce
Carrot sticks
French beans
Cooked toms, courgette, pepper in sauces but not raw
Fancy frilly lettuce
Cucumber
Hates raw Tom, so do I
"not keen" on mushrooms but will eat if hidden
No parsnips even if described as chips

All fruit raw

My friends LO went off sauce but will eat if served on the side for her to dip. I'd like to day i wouldn't give in to that but who knows! She won't touch anything recognisable.
