I can do guacamole, and even homemade salsa.

But is it easy to make hummus? What about the friji-thingy? What other nice dips can I make?

I want to know how to make frijolemole too.

DamselInDisarray · 11/11/2011 09:22

Wait, I Delia has a recipe. Frijolemole is a great word.

Trills · 11/11/2011 09:23

Frjolemole Frijimole Frijole, if I google all of these will one of them tell me?

I had some at a party the other day but it was from Tesco, and I want to make it like the big dip-making ponce that I am.

Delia is a fool, doesn't she know you can get chickpeas in tins?

OP posts:
DamselInDisarray · 11/11/2011 09:25

You'd think she would, being as she's so keen to get us to take shortcuts. You'd think tinned chickpeas would be an obvious one.

PotteringAlong · 11/11/2011 09:25

Hummus very simple but leave time for the flavours to permeate - tastes better the next day I think.

hummus

ShirleyKnot · 11/11/2011 09:27

Oh oh oh!

I nigella have one that will use up some of your chilli's!

Jar of roasted peppers, chilli, vegetable boil and fresh coriander. Will type up properly later. DS1 makes it and takes it to parties.

Queenkong · 11/11/2011 09:29

There are loads of lovely dip recipes in HFW's new Veg Everyday book. I did the roast carrot hummus and Cambodian wedding dip (a spicy, coconutty mushroom affair) and they were lovely.

DamselInDisarray · 11/11/2011 09:31

The sainsbury's frijolemole is made with butter beans not chickpeas though. This one uses black beans.

Trills · 11/11/2011 09:31

Oooooh, black beans? I love black beans. They are cool.

Yes, I thought frijolewolebolemole was supposed to be something that is not chickpeas.

Here's a butter bean dip. And another one. And one from tesco.

PotteringAlong · 11/11/2011 09:38

fruschetta

I know this iS cheating as you just mix with olive oil to make your own but you get lots in a jar and us an absolute delight

AnnMumsnet · 11/11/2011 09:40

(nicked this one from cod) - phili mixed with small (to taste) amount of sweet chili sauce - yummy yummy!!

Trills · 11/11/2011 09:40

The pitta chips in that middle recipe look good :)

Re the Philly one - layer of Philly on a small plate, then drizzle chilli sauce over, then sprinkle chopped coriander over. Gorgeous.

My feta one = mash feta then mix in some chopped green chilli, a squeeze of lemon, black pepper and a bit of natural yoghurt until you get the texture you want - you still want it to be quite chunky. Eat with warm pitta bread.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/11/2011 17:04

Another one = not a dip but a salsa and is really good with tortilla chips:

chop a mango (can be slightly under-ripe), a small red onion, a red pepper, a load of coriander, then mix with a squeeze of lemon or lime juice and some salt and pepper.

bigscarymum · 11/11/2011 17:16

Chop up a handful of mint and coriander in the food processor. Stir into a pot of Greek yoghurt. Yum yum yum.

bigscarymum · 11/11/2011 17:36

Chop up a large handful of mint and one of coriander. Stir into a pot of Greek yoghurt. Yum.

thousandDenier · 11/11/2011 17:38

smoked mackerel, creme fraiche, lemon and horseradish. you can chop some capers in too if you fancy.

thousandDenier · 11/11/2011 17:39

Philidelphia covered in sweet chilli sauce topped with finely chopped fresh coriander - AMAZING!

I have a recipe for another more amazing one, one that all your friends will be asking the recipe for but I've got to put the DCs to bed now. I post it in a bit though - really worth doing Smile

StoneBaby · 11/11/2011 18:58

I like baba ganoush (aubergine dip).

I add a roast red pepper to my hummus. Yum

What about a tapenade (olives paste that you can spread on small toast or bruschetta)?

muttimalzwei · 11/11/2011 20:39

mayonnaise or creme fraiche and pesto
yoghurt, cucumber and mint (raita like)
smoked mackarel and creme fraiche mixed
quork and chives

mumzy · 11/11/2011 20:42
