sugar in yoghurt??

kateandfelicity · 19/12/2005 11:48

DP has been concerned about giving DD petits filous as he says there is lots of sugar in it?
is this true? is this bad? if so, is there any alternative around that is suitable for a 7mo?
don't want to stop giving her yoghurt as her milk intake is not always very good and want her to have it for calcium and fat etc, plus dd loves it!

thanks

Kate

Those flavoured yoghurts are absolutely vile.
We eat Rachels or Yeo Valley or Biopot (my favourite) as do the children.

nailpolish · 19/12/2005 14:16

-rachels and yeo valley are kind of expensive

SackAche · 19/12/2005 14:17

Exactly NP!

Sheeeesh, some of you really are passionate about feckin yoghurt and fromage frais eh?!?!

Scary!

WigWamBam · 19/12/2005 14:21

Nah, not really passionate about yoghurt. Can't stand it myself. I wouldn't even say it merited a "sheeeesh", but there you go

I just wasn't too keen on giving my baby all the additives and fillers that Petit Filous contain when I could just be giving yoghurt with fruit in it. I just felt that for a baby who was only just starting to take solid food, less was more.

moondog · 19/12/2005 14:35

Eh np????

If you bought a 500g tub of Onken and worked out price of that weight for weight with those PF things (not to mention all the packaging),you would find it a lot cheaper.

I second WWB.

SackAche · 19/12/2005 14:36

Okay okay... its the devils food.... we get it right?!!!!

WWB - The sheeesh wasn't for you really.

NotQuiteCockney · 19/12/2005 14:37

If cost is an issue, supermarkets often do own-brand organic flavoured yogurts which aren't too gross. Or make your own fruit puree and mix it with plain yogurt of any brand.

nailpolish · 19/12/2005 14:38

if you buy big tubs how long would you keep it? (after opening i mean)

moondog · 19/12/2005 14:39

SA..more an issue of it being foul tasting to me than anything else.
Nothing wrong with sugary things,as long as they're nice (says she.cramming in a mince pie)

My mother (unbelievably tight, despite,or maybe because she has plenty of dosh) tells me she buys big cartons of plain yoghurt in Kwik Save for about 35p!!

moondog · 19/12/2005 14:40

Well,in my house, not long at all,but a week would be fine.

moondog · 19/12/2005 14:41

If tastebuds not attuned to plain yoghurt,a dollop of jam or honey is nice.

moondog · 19/12/2005 14:41

God,three posts in a row.
I really need to get out more.....

SackAche · 19/12/2005 14:42

Tescos own brands???? Then someone will have a go at you for buying morally wrong foods from Supermarkets.... since they rape and pillage small suppliers! Can't win on MN these days really!

...oooo so bitter, maybe I need a MN break.

nailpolish · 19/12/2005 14:43

hi md

so if i bought a big tub of plain yoghurt i could keep it opened in the fridge for a week?

i am going to do that - then add different ingredients each day for dd's - thanks!

nailpolish · 19/12/2005 14:43

althought it probably wouldnt last a week..

moondog · 19/12/2005 14:44

Have a schooner of sherry Sa. it'll calm yer frazzled nerves.

I've just told me ds to 'bloody shut up' about 12 times today.Dh gave me a bollocking for being a bittler old shrew.

moondog · 19/12/2005 14:45

You will wave goodbye to Petits Filous forever np!!!

Epiffany · 19/12/2005 14:45

Yeah Sackache get into the yoghurt chiller with you woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SackAche · 19/12/2005 14:45

lol I was cross referencing with the thread about Tesco thats on the go.

nailpolish · 19/12/2005 14:46

i must admit i wouldnt eat a petit filou myself

SackAche · 19/12/2005 14:46

I would/do! DH usually puts a spoonful into porridge.

Epiffany · 19/12/2005 14:47

I can't eat that, I'm too much of a dietitian to eat that muck
Sorry

moondog · 19/12/2005 14:48

Well,that's my rationale np.
Why should my kids eat what I won't??
(I do fight them off when it comes to the booze cupboard though.....)

harpsiheraldangelssing · 19/12/2005 14:48

yes I used to use a big tub of plain yoghurt in the fridge
and add fruit puree for dd1 and honey for me
if feeling v lazy I used those little tubs of Just Fruit that you can get.

imation · 19/12/2005 14:49

SackAche, i know what they mean but it doesn't seem right to me that they r in babies food especially labelled as from 4 months.....
