ok i cant cook or i won't cook its a bit of both after a days work how not arsed can i be.

well, heres my problem. i started getting mince beef - good mince beef cos am a mince beef snob - any road up..all i can do with it is fry it and add frozen veggies and a can of tomatos and some garlic and herbs and squidy stuff from a tube. then it goes in a pitta pocket with salad or in a flat bread we call a fajita - though its reallynot.

anyway. i have mince in the fridge all defrosted and ready to go - tonight we had a revolution. the kids decided they would rather die a painful death than eat it AGAIN! i was all for letting them die the painful death when dh made tuna salad baguettes

so i have this mince - quick recipies - nowt fancy, nothing that takes preperation and can be done quick

any ideas

ta

oooh hazellnut gave me a recipe the toher day for chilli.

brown mince with some onion, green pepper and garlic. add tin toms, cumin, chilli powder and tabasco
serve with rice.

Becca81 · 08/12/2005 23:10

can you make them into burgers? Chopped onion, few herbs, pinch of salt and pepper... roll them into a ball then squidge them in to a burger shape. either shallow fry or grill.
Or can you make spag bol or lasagne? Cottage pie?
Think thats about it. Gee, my poor family!

moondog · 08/12/2005 23:11

Shepherds pie??

Good old fashioned food.

Brown mince and onions. Add grated carrot (makes it go further) and a glug of soy and Worcester sauce mixed with some water and a teaspoon of cornflour. Cook for maybe 25 mins.
Top with mashed potato and give it 30 minutes in the oven.

colditz · 08/12/2005 23:13

Fry in a pan with onions and mushrooms, when it is cooked add ready made up gravy and simmer it for a but. Serve with creamy mashed potato with horseradish sauce in it.

Tortington · 08/12/2005 23:33

eh up colditz my kinda gal - will try that

proper recipe for shepherds pie - what do i do?

tried making burgers they were chuffin 'orrible

my youngest hates spaghetti - so we use fusilli ( i dont know ...dont ask... cos its like worms or sommat?...but he will eat noodles ..hmmmm) we get meatballs out of a can - cheaper

i think the general principle of mince with tomatos and veggies is putting them off.

this is to feed 4.5 adults (.5 is youngest son - bit of a weed)

i know am making it difficult - sorry and thank you

i remember trying to make it with my mum - it turned out rubbish ( i was 12)

can you help me with a fools guide to lasagne - please assume am as thick as shit - i am

Tortington · 08/12/2005 23:52

what do you serve iwth cottage pie? i cant stick a piece of cottage ( or shepaherds) pie on a plate my dh would give birth to a cow.

thanks love you all your fab

Fry mince with onions and add tin tomatoes.

Cook pasta.

Open packet of ready to use cheese sauce.

put it all in layers and bake for 15mins.

Call it cheesy pasta bake!

and cook your veg first - mix it all together - stick it in a dish - put cooked, mashed pots on top, a bit of cheese and stick it in the oven for 10 mins. Serve with a bag of chips...mmmm...

colditz · 08/12/2005 23:59

Fools lasagne? Ok, as long as you have no objection to horrific cheating, as I do.

Fry mince and onion in a saucepan, and add a small jar of dolmio, or squirt enough tomato puree in to make it red and sticky.

Make a cheese sauce, according to the instructions on the Coleman's packet but adding more milk if it gets like custard. Has to be like double cream.

Put layer of bolognese on bottom of baking tray, then layer of lasagne sheets, then layer of cheese sauce, and rerpeat until you run out of one of them. You should have cheese sauce on the top.

Sprinkle with grated cheese, put in oven on gas 5/180C.

Stab every 10 minutes with a knife to see if the pasta has cooked yet. When you think it has gone soft, give it another 5 or 10 minutes.

Serve with frozen brocolli(sp?)

colditz · 09/12/2005 00:00

I mean, I don't object, this is what I do to make lasagne.

colditz · 09/12/2005 00:01

Cottage pie serve with "potato wedges" and gravy.

Oh and mushrooms in with the mince for lasagne make it stretch, they bulk it out.

Tortington · 09/12/2005 00:15

aww you're all fabulicious ta v. much

Too late probably, but anyway...

I think mince is really boring, so when I make it I don't just use toms and veg and herbs as you do, but also loads of onion, chopped up bacon, chilli (or chilli sauce), Worcester sauce, glug of red wine... whatever I can find.

It's good for lasagne or just on top of plain pasta, everyone enjoys it down to and including the dog, and you can hardly taste the mince at all....

hellsbellsdownunder · 09/12/2005 07:20

the favourite mince dish in this family is 'mexican hotpot'. Just fry mince, onions, peppers. Then add tinned sweetcorn. Meanwhile boil up pasta shells. Then mix the whole lot with tinned tomato soup and a bit of tomato puree if you want. Put it in the oven. Nice with garlic bread and salad - but we don't usually bother with that. Its SCRUMMY!!

anorak · 09/12/2005 08:43

Mix a crushed oxo and salt and pepper into the mince, sort of squish it in with your hands till it's well mixed in. You can also add any herbs and spices you like.

Then roll the mince into small balls about an inch in diameter. Chill for a few minutes. Heat up oil in a frying pan and fry the balls till they're brown. Make a simple spaghetti dish with a tomato sauce and add the meatballs to the sauce at the last minute, just heating them through before you serve.

alicatsg · 09/12/2005 09:03

put some big potatoes in oven to bake and after about 1.hr 30 take em out, cut in half, scoop out middle and mash it. Stick your usual mince in the potato shells and put the mash on top. Liberal application of grated cheese, under the grill till browning.

OR and this is bizarre but great. Fry mince with onions and 2-3 green chillis, splash of Thai fish sauce, soy etc. Get some baby gem lettuces and let em scoop up the mince on the lettuce leaves and eat it that way. My 2 year old LOVES this even tho he won't eat lettuce under any other circumstance whatsoever.

thecattleareALOHing · 09/12/2005 09:16

Add beans and chilli for chilli, serve with rice or in baked potatoes with grated cheese on the table for people to add themselves.

thecattleareALOHing · 09/12/2005 09:17

How are you off for tuna recipes?
