january king cabbage is just a MASSIVE cabbage.. bit like a savoy

NotQuiteCockney · 06/12/2005 20:56

Sounds like bok choi/pak choi.

I have a mystery fruit, looks like limes but with weird pointy bits ...

NotQuiteCockney · 06/12/2005 20:59

Here is bok choi/pak choi. Very nice stirfried.

followthestarlover · 06/12/2005 21:00

is it a feijoa?

that was in some abel and cole boxes

NotQuiteCockney · 06/12/2005 21:02

That sounds right! What do I do with it?

It looks sad and sorry and weird. I coped with those weird seedy fruits, and the baby loves persimmons.

Next thing, we'll be getting those horrible little things that look like lychee but taste like fish.

popsycalindisguise · 06/12/2005 21:05

they have reciopes on their site...

Epiffany · 06/12/2005 21:06

feijoa YUM we used to have a feijoa hedge in NZ
Cut in half like a kiwi and eat

merrySOAPBOXingday · 06/12/2005 21:07

I think its the same as our box and it's pak choi. We've just eaten it in a lovely pak choi and chicken stir fry with noodles. Non-fat version too

Mincepiedermama · 06/12/2005 21:07

Hmmmm. Never heard of feijoa. I'll have to look out for that.

followthestarlover · 06/12/2005 21:08

The feijoa, also known as the pineapple guava and the guavasteen, is an exotic and interesting fruit. It is a sweet fruit whose taste is similar to a combination of the following fruits: banana, strawberry, guava, and pineapple.

followthestarlover · 06/12/2005 21:08

Although you should not eat the skin of a feijoa fruit raw, you can use it as an ingredient in preserves. When you cut into a feijoa, you will see thick, juicy flesh that is either light yellow or white in color. Additionally, approximately thirty seeds are present within the flesh. These seeds are very small and can be eaten along with the flesh. The feijoa fruit is also known for its fragrant and long-lasting aroma.

Epiffany · 06/12/2005 21:10

I want one, I never knew I missed them until NQC mentioned them ,

fishie · 06/12/2005 21:11

we got chard in a&c box - i steamed it and had with sesame oil and oyster sauce. yum.

NotQuiteCockney · 06/12/2005 21:21

Yup, it's feijoa.

I wish they'd give us more pomegranites. And bananas that weren't really really green, instead.

vitomum · 06/12/2005 21:33

could your pointy cabbage thing be 'spring greens'?

Beabea · 06/12/2005 22:03

I looked at that and wondered about the spring greens.
