I don't like the place, I'm afraid, so not the best judge. However, their continental chocolate biscuits are quite nice and I'm told the ground coffee is good as well. And, I don't know what the correct term is for the random crap they feature down the centre aisle, but that can be interesting sometimes.

Dark Chocolate - particularly the one filled with sour cherry and chilli
Chunky chopped tomatoes
Part-baked bread rolls with seeds on top

I buy the fruit and veg but like PrinceHumperdink I don't think it lasts very well. The strawberries at the moment are great though.

I'd steer clear of the cosmetic products...I know they've supposedly won awards for their moisturisers but they made me break out in even more than usual spots.

mustdash · 27/06/2011 15:22

Olive Oil.
tinned tomatoes
ground coffee
frozen fish - DCs love the basa fillets

whimsicalname · 27/06/2011 16:02

i love all the stuff that looks like branded goods, but is in disguise.

Norpak (basically Lurpak) is a particular favourite.

And Disco Biscuits, although you might as well just give your kids actual ecstasy for all the sugar that's in them.

The £3 Montepulciano is also very good. A sommelier friend recommended it, and I believe it has won competitions. To be fair, it just tastes winey to me, but nice winey, not bleurgh paint stripper winey.

Prince, dh picked those up today "for the kids!" Yeah right.

I buy there fruit and veg, and also tinned goods are usually a good price. The other thing I go in for is the kids apple and orange juice cartons for school, £1 for 6, which is really good.

Ponders · 27/06/2011 16:14

There's a tempranillo called Toro Loco (I think - has bull's horns on the label) which is only £3.49 & excellent.

Free range eggs - large 99p

Chilled orange & apple juice (not-from-concentrate) - £1.29

Salted butter

Nice bacon

My mind's gone blank now & I shop there every week!

Ponders · 27/06/2011 16:16

Extra virgin olive oil - a Which best buy & only around £2 for a big bottle

Maris Pipers - I think they're £1.35 atm for 2.5kg & extremely good. A lot of the fruit & veg is good but you have to be a bit picky - I don't think the lack of refrigeration in the store is an issue, because their turnover is so fast

Squeezy fake-Hellmans mayo (as good as Hellman's apparently)

Dried herbs & spices

Ponders · 27/06/2011 16:20

and the random crap (aka Stuff in my house, Cogito Smile) can be fantastic value. If you sign up for their regular email you'll see what's coming - you have to get in quick for some of it.

Ponders · 27/06/2011 16:24

Goat's cheese - a large French one for something silly like 1.20.

DS1 loves it but has to be French for him (Hmm) & most of the supermarkets only seem to have UK stuff these days.

Mabelface · 27/06/2011 16:25

Washing powder
Washing up liquid
Milk
Bread
Moisturisers are fabulous
Fruit and veg, especially the super 6 they have reduced every week
Tortilla wraps
Pesto
Tinned toms and beans

Loads and loads and loads of stuff. I do the majority of my shop there.

paddypoopants · 27/06/2011 16:27

I'll second the Disco biscuits- yum. Oliver Cromwell gin- award winning apparently- though I'm just loving the name.

Mabelface · 27/06/2011 16:29

Oh yes, Austins! Their own version of Pimms that tastes just as good but is less than £6

NettoSuperstar · 27/06/2011 16:33

I've only been a few times, and not for ages, but DD also loved the Disco biscuits and the chocolate brioche and mini brownies
I loved the antipasti stuff from the fridge, particularly the marinated anchovies.
The cold meats are nice, and they do great bratwurst
The flowers are a bargain too.

duende · 27/06/2011 20:06

Free range eggs
Bacon
Free range chicken
Frozen leg of lamb (gorgeous from the slowcooker)
Mozzarella & goat cheese
Fruit and veg
Extra virgin olive oil
Tomato and chilli chutney
Prunes

Their frozen pizzas are nice as well, cheap and great to chuck in to oven. Frozen veg, yum!

TarquinGyrfalcon · 27/06/2011 21:14

Cheese
Free Range Chicken
Frickadellen (pork meatballs)
Olive Oil
Chocolate
Bacon
Cold meats
Bread

SybilBeddows · 27/06/2011 22:00

ooh thank you everyone. I'm getting excited now, specially about the marinated anchovies and other antipasti stuff....

I could print this thread out and take it with me as a shopping list Smile

oh do, they are brilliant for gourmet-type snacky stuff in general (DH likes to create things for his lunch at work, & Aldi - Lidl too - are a godsend for that!)

Beamur · 27/06/2011 22:05

The cleaning products are good too and cheap - I stock up on dishwasher tablets when I go.
The random 'stuff' aisles are worth a look, I've picked up some nice toys and books for DD.

BuggerAllTheBestNamesAreTaken · 27/06/2011 22:09

Plants, have planted a whole garden from scratch this summer, all from Aldi
I do all my shopping in Aldi and save a fortune
