I bought the 'P20' today, SFM - haven't tried it yet - I'll let you know!

My DP has just found the 2 in 1 paper trimmer that for some reason I felt compelled to buy last time I was in there..luckily I resisted the portable washing dryer!

Couple of pointers from s former ALDI employee:

Skeleton staffing means lower costs for you (znd profit for them, obviously!) don't expect to pack at the check out- there is a shelf running along the back of the shop for this purpose.

Dates on fruit and veg..., it IS there- in code!! Look at any fruit/veg item and it will have something like 12/02 on it or 30/01. The first number is the week if the year, and the second number is the day on the week it was delivered to store. A Monday is 01 and so on. This allows you to look through the stock and depending on the day of the week, ensure you get the freshest stock. Voila!

Not a disgruntled emplyee btw. They source their goods from the same manufacturers as premium brands and pay their staff very, very well for working hard. I still shop there regularly.

i've been using the nappies as reccomended on here and i am so impressed, we tried other brands and have found if ds sleeps all the way through (12 hours at the min) he wakes up sore as the nappies we were using arent as absorbent as the aldi ones! i wont be going back to the higher priced branded ones.

Chocolate is good, as is bread, cooked meats, and the frozen spinach and ricotta canneloni is really really good!

cant think of anything else at the min!

I aboslutely love Aldi! I like them so much that I have set up a Facebook page, just for fun, where I write about my top Aldi finds. Just search for I love Aldi Uk on Facebook.

PS - please forgive my typing error - it should have said "absolutely"!

The Chocobloc I think it's called. Much nicer than Toblerone as it's not nearly so sweet.

Thanks for tips

I'm currently addicted to their white chocolate and think i will have to take a trip there tonight now!

docpeppa · 24/09/2014 18:25

I love aldi its fantastic, I do my main shop there so don't have any complaints.

I switched from pampers to their nappies as found them just as good.

I have used their q10 anti wrinkle night cream for years.

Oh if you want a naughty treat, their chocolate brioche really is something else. Just don't expect it to last long once you've tastes it though Grin

Aldi opened close to us last year, we have very rarely been to Tesco since.I agree with others that you sometimes can't do a full shop there (I need certain face creams/washing powder/shower gel for skin) but as a main shop it's great really. We particularly like;

Malted Wheats
Tropical Granola
Apple breakfast bars (like Nutri- Grain)
Peanut Butter
Raspberry conserve (not best ever had as quite runny but better than similarly priced jams)
Multigrain part-baked petit pain
Balsamic vinegar
White sauce for lasagne
Fruit/veg but agree needs using fairly quickly
Maris Pipers
Turkey mince/steak mince (no hard bits)
Premium bacon
Garlic baguette
Reduced fat and red pepper houmous
Salt & Vinegar crisps
Various bags seeds
Salted pistachios
Cream cheese
Baked ham
Premium Maris Piper oven chips
Greek style 4pk yoghurts
Salad cream/ketchup
Eggs
Herbal Essences style shampoo (I get blue one for dry hair)
Oatie biscuits (like Hob Nobs)
Pitta Bread
Fresh spinach
Fresh salmon (good price but portions seem small)
Mamia baby wipes are ok for general use. Would have been happy to use for DS as a baby, they are quite thick and damp for a good clean up!
Parmesan
Mature Cheddar
Cheshire cheese
Stock cubes/dried herbs
Cheap Bavaria/San Miguel in big bottles.
The 6pk German Lager is ok and 5%

Posted before I was ready! I like the prices and the quality of most things are good. However, I don't like the way things are rushed through the till and I tend to get a trolley even for a few items as you can't take a basket through the till to the other end and trying to pack even a bagful of stuff is stressful! It is definitely better to just shove all in a trolley and pack at the back.

Just to add, last Christmas their Holly Lane mince pies were a favourite with DS as was theirGrin version of Baileys in the black bottle with DP and I
