Can you help me plan a lovely vegan, nut free lunch?

Our lovely friends are coming to lunch on Sunday and he is a vegan who does not eat nuts. I would love to give them something yummy and homemade- as they are travelling and could arrive any time I thought we would have nice bread, salad, maybe peppers stuffed with lentils? But what about a pudding? Can I make a cake with vegan margerine and no eggs? I am a complete meat eater so am really really stuck as I so want to make them feel welcome!

i really don't know colditz.

i kind of want to try and find out tho.

hmm. shame dp is away right now.

perhaps you could also use it as an egg replacement in some dishes, where you need it to bind together. Mmmmm

All food contains some protein, the amount and type of protein varies though.
If you're eating enough calories on a vegan diet, you're eating enough protein.

Most fruit and veg contains pretty minimal amounts of protein, actually. And you could be just slugging back the hydrogenated veg oil, all frightfully vegan, and probably getting quite a few calories but not protein, surely.

And lesbian vegans are going to be denied your special tip

motherinferior · 29/06/2011 17:16

I've known quite a few lesbian vegans, btw, that was not (just) casuistry.

i wonder if female, um, stuff has protein in? or is it the sperm themselves that make it a protein-rich snack?

i can't help but feel that eating potential babies is not really that vegan anyway

motherinferior · 29/06/2011 17:19

It's the concentrated volume, innit.

And on that note I MUST do some more work!

Pulses, nuts, grains, they're all really the same thing though aren't they? If you are going to count meat and fish as the same.

If you want to push the vegan boundaries you can add human breast milk as a protein source.

I would make veggie curry with various combinations of chickpeas, lentils, and all sorts of veg. Serve with nan and rice. Very easy. No stress.

I have also been practising vegan biscuits (not a vegan but I know variouis vegan children). Choc chip cookies (with bourneville choc or other dark choc without milk content, and with some sort of vegetable oil rather than butter or normal marge. Just leave out the egg if it's in the recipe, you can add a bit of treacle instead if you like. Again, easy, and very nice.
