Would you recommend your slow cooker?

My slow cooker has broken beyond repair. I need to buy another one - would be really grateful if anyone could recommend their model? Or ones to avoid? Have searched the threads but they are a bit out of date.

TIA

My broken one (in case you are interested, I know there are some slow cooker obsessives around) was a Wahl James Martin one, quite cheapy I would have thought (it was a present), it has lasted about 3 years and we used it about twice a week.

I have a morphy richards 6.5l one. I love it.

SultanaofTring · 14/06/2011 23:14

Thank you very much, will investigate that one.

I also have a 6.5 one which is fab for going gammons and whole chickens in. It's an Anthony Worral Thompson Breville one.

valiumredhead · 15/06/2011 10:30

It was £30 iirc but I have had it 5 ish years. Still going strong!

fuckmepinkandcallmerosie · 15/06/2011 10:35

There's an offer on the Tescos one atm - it's down to a tenner here but it's not as big as some of the others

deemented · 15/06/2011 10:36

I have three slowcookers Blush

And this one is my biggest one. It works brilliantly and is a great size for doing batch cooking.

SultanaofTring · 15/06/2011 12:42

ooh, thanks for the recommendations Smile

3 slow cookers?! Grin

Oh yes!

The small one - 1ltr - does for puddings, fondues, jams and chutneys etc. 3ltr one is good for everyday stuff, as is my big one, but i also use that for whole chickens, chocolate brownies, making soaps and candles etc.

SultanaofTring · 15/06/2011 13:30

Soaps and candles! You have opened up a whole new hobby for me there...

aristocat · 16/06/2011 12:12

this breville is what i use, it is an excellent size Smile

simonthedog · 16/06/2011 12:14

i've got a lakeland 3.5l one which is good. £31

becknotts · 16/06/2011 17:07

I have been happily using a 6.5l Cookstore one from Argos , works brilliantly was on sale for 15pounds. I use it constantly.

I had the much more expensive Crock-Pot® - Original Slow Cooker, bowl cracked after only two months and customer service were hopeless would not replace insisting I buy a new part which was more than the cost of buying a cheaper slow cooker

SultanaofTring · 17/06/2011 13:06

Thanks everyone, very useful info. That is rubbish about Crock-Pot®. I'll cross them off my list.

I have that £10 tesco one and it's great. Had it two years, never failed me yet. Might not be big enough for some people though.

fuckmepinkandcallmerosie · 17/06/2011 19:19

Naoko that's good to know, I was thinking of getting it for a friend as a wedding present.

osd · 17/06/2011 19:22

Ovens slow cook, am i missing the point? Confused

ItsNotRocketSurgery · 17/06/2011 19:23

I don't think slow cookers have that much to differentiate them really. It's a pot, in a thing that heats it up. With a plug on it.

ItsNotRocketSurgery · 17/06/2011 19:23

osd Slow cookers you plug in and leave on all day - they don't use much electricity and you can safely go out for hours knowing the house isn't going ot burn down.

zipzap · 17/06/2011 19:28

Yes. Got a ciao art one that is great for casseroles etc but also for roast chicken or roast lamb...

However if you want one that is just to do a couple of portions it would probably a bit big.

zipzap · 17/06/2011 19:31

Arrgghh. Stupid autocorrect.

Meant to say the cusinart one not ciao art!

silverten · 18/06/2011 16:29

Can you get a chicken (whole) in a 3.5 l one? Or should I get a bigger one?

Anyone got a 4-in-1 cooker? One of those ones that does frying/slow cooking/steaming/rice? Are they any good?

FairyArmadillo · 18/06/2011 17:14

What ItsNotRocketSurgery said. I wouldn't go out and leave an oven on all day, but I feel safe leaving my evening meal cooking in my slow cooker. Saves the effort of cooking my main meal after a tiring day.

OP- I have the Lakeland 3.5L one for about 30pounds and I like it.
