Macaroni cheese: 1 pint milk, 1oz butter, 1oz flour whisk. put in microwave 2 mins high. Whisk. Put in microwave 2 mins high. Whisk. Stir in grated cheese. Stir in cooked macaroni. Can add chopped green pepper. Can add cooked bacon. Pour into ovenproof dish. Top with sliced tomatoes and more cheese. Brown under grill.

Frozen chopped peppers
Frozen chopped onion

Fried in Olive oil (garlic & herbs)
Add slice tomatoes when peppers are cooked

Frozen chicken (bought as chicken breasts, cut into goujons and frozen) grilled

Serve in a pitta bread, or a baguette

Grate cheese on top?

Ericblack · 08/11/2005 21:28

Exactly. You can buy Smash in very small sachets...Baked beans are my personal favourite. I said peas as vegetables are required in the original question and I don't really believe that baked beans are vegetables.

PrincessSmartyPants · 08/11/2005 21:32

Could you jump on a whole load of cornflakes and recreate the ovbiously unique texture of ruskoline? Isn't it similar to the breadcrumby things you can buy which are bright orange?

moondog · 08/11/2005 21:33

omg baked beans...bleeaaarghh!!

My dh's colleague here in Turkey loves to tell me about coming to the UK as a poor student and filling his trolley with them thinking (the fool, the fool!) that they would be like Turkish ones.

He threw about 50 cans away once he'd tasted them.

Smash beans and sausage.

I would seriously prefer to eat shit.

PrincessSmartyPants · 08/11/2005 21:37

I was actually looking for ideas for things to serve my kids on those days I get in after 5pm and haven't been organised enough to plan ahead. Unfortunately they don't like baked beans.. keep the ideas going tho' please

Your highness - it IS orangey breadcrumbs. The first and original. I believe the cornflakes would become too powdery (certainly if I jumped on them) plus may contain too many nutrients.
Moondog - They have a different version of Baked Beans in Turkey? Now I am learning new stuff. And as a vegetarian (no emoticom for smarmy face but imagine one) eating sausages IS eating shit.

Ericblack · 08/11/2005 21:42

Sorry as well. Got carried away. Seriously though you can dip a bit of lemon sole in Ruskoline and fry it for about 2 minutes on each side. I serve it with cous cous or noodles and peas/brocolli/corn on the cob. Takes 5 minutes.

PrincessSmartyPants · 08/11/2005 21:45

In Good Food magazine they suggested the best 10 organic buys. I think apples were first but baked beans and ketchup were in the top 5 for sure.
Jacket potato with cheese and beans was my staple student diet- in those simple days when it was just you to think about!

moondog · 08/11/2005 21:56

Oh they love beans in Turkey.
Difference is that they haven't been boiled to buggery and are in a great sauce.
Hell,I even buy tinned ones here for my kids.

(I had a Turkish girl as a guest in Britain last month and bought a can for her to taste for a laugh. She was appalled.)

Tobim · 08/11/2005 22:24

Current favourite for quickish (and very filling) family meal at Tobim towers is spaghetti cheese souffle. Similar to loonybin's macaroni cheese, but add an egg yolk to the cheese sauce then whisk up the white and fold it in. Put in the oven (180) for half an hour until it goes all crispy on top. Nice with a bit of nutmeg on it and accompanied by whatever veg you like. Jacket potatoes with hummus and grated carrot also go down well as does the ubiquitous pasta with tuna & tomato (aka Dolmio or the like) sauce with hidden veg (grated mushroom, courgette etc).
Organic tomato sauce does taste better than the ordinary version but only seems to come in smallish bottles. My dd1 dropped a 1.2kg plastic bottle of the ordinary Heinz stuff yesterday. The top sheared off and the sauce went everywhere - I'm still finding crusty smears all round the kitchen.

laligo · 08/11/2005 22:32

ericblack, your dinner is the epitome of my fave type of food; i'm going to make it! (dp uses ruskoline to do us nice fried fish and salad so i don't think it's plebby!)

btw, i think sainsbury's own instant mash is nicer than smash.

at university i used to make: sainsbury's instant mash, mixed with peas, with cheese on top. not only done in 5 mins, but you don't need a cooker! (i used to cook the peas in the kettle!)

surfermum · 08/11/2005 22:56

Stop at the Kentucky on the way home. Serve in the boxes, no waiting for it to be plated up, no washing up and they can substitute bedtime bath for a once over with the little lemony wet wipe.

Come on then Moondog, if your 'ard enough .

moondog · 08/11/2005 22:57

lol surferwoman!!!

gossifer · 08/11/2005 23:00

ericblack, you have had me laughing at your ruskoline;
and the fact that its got you more replies than anything else! know what you mean

notasheep · 08/11/2005 23:01

Peanut Butter sarnie in an emergency

gossifer · 08/11/2005 23:05

quick meal

fry bacon, then add garlic, mushrooms and fresh chilli
stir into pasta
grate parmesan over the top
add any fresh eeeeeerbs and yum!

yULeYSEES · 08/11/2005 23:07

birds eye frozen mash is gorgeous, you can mic it or hob it or - and it doesn't say this on the packet - wait for it - warm it in the oven with your roast! How easy is that?

So, mine is throw a pork joint in oven, one with a good layer of fat which you can cut off at the end. Cook some veg, either steamfresh or fresh. Put mash in oven in shallow tray for roasts last 1/2 hour. Whilst roast is cooling on plate mix 1 tbsp cornflower with fat in roasting dish then add stock made from 2 stock cubes. bring to a good simmer and cook gravy for few mins. Slice pork and chop kids meat up. You can also add frozen yorkshires. I usually throw in 12 aunt bessie's as we eat them all.

I know you wait for the pork to cook but what's easier than sticking a joint in the oven and it only takes a couple of hours at the most usually plus you can have extra left for the next day.

Cant believe I have spent a huge percentage of my adult life, wandering round supermarkets and have never heard of Ruskoline.
Oh-the power of the internet
