I wish ds1 would revert to eating ham and ds2 would eat potato

dd1 has decided she now doesn't eat vegetables. We have a deal, if she eats one raw carrot (she likes these), one apple, some bits of cucumber and some grapes every day then I won't insult her by putting broccoli/beans etc on her plate. She's really into this and demands all the veg/fruit for breakfast and then tells everyone at nursery that she doesn't have to eat vegetables any more. Not sure what long term eating habits I'm setting up here but what the hell, it could be worse!

marthamoo · 29/09/2003 11:26

Wish ds1 (6.5) would eat fruit. He did as a baby/toddler, then just stopped. He will drink apple and orange juice, but refuses point blank to try any kind of fruit. Managed to get him to hold a piece of apple in his hand the other day and, believe me, that's a major breakthrough! He eats most other things though, so I'm not complaining too much.

pupuce · 29/09/2003 11:38

Fruitloop.... what about NOT buying any juice.... and you can genuienly say "there is none in the house".... she will drink something else- she won't dehydrate herself ! It may take a day or two but if it is a genuine concern go cold and MEAN it !
Worst case give her chamomille or lemon verbena diluted (cold) herbal tea. Which you have made yourself and which you KNOW does not contain any other ingredients !

This is going to sound awful, but I wish my child would eat boring food. She could say "brie" before she could say mummy, her vocabulary includes: goats cheese, cammembert, olives, garlic, she attempted gorgonzola last week, and gave up and asked for "blue brie". It got to the point last week when she had a tantrum because her olives weren't stuffed with garlic that we gave up and admitted to ourselves that we had bred a middle class monster. And she's not even 2 yet! What I wouldn't give to be able to feed her a marmite sandwich.

PS Fruitloops, we call water "baby juice" and it goes down a treat.

It all changes slug I am afraid. My nephew was into all that but now has a fit if pasta "contaminates" his meat.

He is 8

slug I've got one of those too - not yet verbalising about food, but current favourites are olives, roasted artichokes and sun dried tomatoes. She gorges on salami and chorizo and ate 6 slices of smoked salmon the other day. DH gave her a biscuit yesterday but she decided she wanted my pineaplle instead!

I fondly remember ds1 (4) eating fillet steak as a baby, but he now spurns home made food in favour of processed stuff (nuggets, sausage etc)

Meanwhile, ds2, who is just 2, eats just about anything, apart from cheese in any shape or form

Bozza · 30/09/2003 13:37

For DS I would like him to drink milk. Although I have made a recent breakthrough in the form of banana milkshake with a straw. Might try to make a banana smoothie myself.

CnR - its not your DD at fault for not liking chips - but the kid's meals menus for having nothing else but chips!

codswallop · 30/09/2003 13:39

Feel I have arrived now as this thread is referred to on the Home page.. Tee hee

OP posts:
lilibet · 30/09/2003 15:44

Wish ds1 would eat anything non processed, ie beef instead of a beef burger, chicken that isn't in nugget form, proper ham instead of the stuff you can get with a picture on it and potatoes instead of waffles and oven chips. Oh and fruit and veg woudl be nice as well. I have the original baked bean kid!
And he is 10!!!

ThomCat · 30/09/2003 15:50

Poor lottie - I give her such a hartd time. She'll quite happily munch carrots, baby sweetcorn, melon, peaches, etc etc, but I get all upset when she won't eat the red mullet with fresh oregano and black olive mash I made her!!!!!!! I have to face facts she's a toddler and wants to eat pizza and chicken nuggets not mums home made beef stogganoff with loads of black pepper etc!!

tinyfeet · 30/09/2003 16:37

lettuce. She eats cucumber, broccoli, corn and other good veggies, but no leafy greens.

Blu · 30/09/2003 18:14

hey Thomcat, I'LL come and eat your cooking...yum!

binker · 01/10/2003 10:29

cheese (though will now eat mozarella with tomato and basil!), eggs and milk.

codswallop · 23/11/2003 18:13

Northerner, brocolli is far to much to ask, IMO.

Forestfly · 23/11/2003 18:18

Well done

hmb · 23/11/2003 18:27

Dd eats everything, anything, she even loves sprouts. She tackles olives and stinky cheese, smoked salmon and whole prawns which cone with head attached. She is now almost 7. Idiot woman that I am I foolishly, and arrogently, put this down to my excellent weaning program, that got her eating a wide range of foods.

Did the same thing with ds. Is he the same? is he hell! Meet my son, the chicken nugget king. Teats all friut as the spawn of satan (except bananas). He does eat veg tho.

That will teach me to be a smug cow!

codswallop · 23/11/2003 18:36

LOL hmb - was feeling slighly annoyed at your first paragraph!! Hooray for your modesty!!

OP posts:
pupuce · 23/11/2003 19:04

Carla- why do you say that? Plenty of kids eat brocoli

aloha · 24/11/2003 10:42

My ds, shouts "broccolli!' in an excited tone when he sees it. And yes, he eats it too. Broccolli cheese is his favourite savoury meal. He's 2 BTW.

Jaybee · 24/11/2003 11:19

Well looking at all your list, I feel quite lucky, however, I wish that dd would eat more 'easy' pack lunch fruit, like an apple or a pear. She eats proper dinners so that is not a problem but I do struggle with stuff for her school packed lunches, the only fruit she will eat is banana (but only if it is cut up for her in a bowl) grapes or strawberries.
Ds - think the only thing I would like him to eat is 'less' - at 10 he would eat me out of house and home if I let him!!

codswallop · 24/11/2003 11:39

aloha..grrrrrrrrrrrr

OP posts:
Beccarollo · 24/11/2003 11:41

meg loves broccoli too but wont touch bread, will eat grapes and banana but HATES pasta - for every good thing she will eat she hates another 4 - her plate is often an unusual mix of things I can think of that are healthy and she might eat!
