Sunchowder Needs your help! Looking for your favorite recipes for fundraiser

Hello Mums! My 11 year old DD was interviewed last week and accepted to participate as a member of the People to People Student Ambassador Program. She is going to get to go on a 20 day trip to your side of the pond this summer with the delegation!! She will travel to Ireland, Wales, England, France, Holland and Belgium. The objective of the program is to promote international understanding while building leadership skills among America's youth. The only down-side is that the tuition is very steep (expensive) and we need to do fundraising to make the trip possible. So....I am taking on the project of publishing a cookbook as the main fundraiser! I am doing the original art for the cover and dividers and it will be plastic comb sprial bound and laminated. I am hoping the price will be between $10 and $12 American Dollars. I would love it if you would be willing to share your most favorite recipes on this thread along with your either your real name or mumsnet name (doesn't matter to me!) and I will use your recipes in the book and print your name along with each recipe. The book will be called "Sunchowder's Emporia", A Collection of Recipes for the Heart and Soul. I am getting an ISBN and everything. I am terribly excited about it. I have incorporated about 75 of my mums and my most treasured recipes and I have sent out requests to 50 of my friends here in the States, so I hope to have a gorgeous book at the end of all of this.

I don't want to request or pressure anyone to purchase the book (unless you want to!), I was just hoping for contributions to make the cookbook richer and more diverse. I appreciate anything you want to contribute and can't wait to see your responses. If we are successful, the book should be published in March 2006. I am going crazy trying to get the advertising in line to help defray the printing costs so I have my hands full, but I am enjoying it and my DD is hard at work printing and collating and delivering things to help support the effort. Thank you, Thank you so much. XO Sunny

ohhh nearly forgot.

It's soooo easy, you'll be wasting a page and I'll acyually be showing what a basic cook I am.

You'll need-
1 pack of really good quality sausages*
4-5fl oz of water
6-7 fl oz of milk
1 large egg
Plain flour
Pepper
Oil for the dish.

I think the success I have is because of the batter mix and the way I mix it (my big bruv taught me....thanks bruv)

Whisk the egg into the water and milk in a mixing bowl.
Add the flour gradually, one tablespoon at a time and whisk it until all the lumps have gone. then add another spoonful, whisk, add another...etc etc.
I have no idea how much flour I use but I continue to mix it in until it's consistency(sp?) is like cream.
Add pepper to taste**

Make this batter a while before you do the actually meal and leave it to settle/rest.

Pour 1-2tbs oil in large dish and place in over to heat.

Grill the sausages but not totally cooked.

Making sure the oil is very hot put suasages in the dish. Give the batter mix a quick whisk (the pepper settles to the bottom so this mixes it again) and pour over then sauasges.

The batter should start to bubble slightly at the edges.
Before you put it back in the oven move the sausages away from the edges of the dish otherwise they will stick and you'll have a really hard bits of sausage(orr errr)

Cook at about 180-200*c for 30-40 minutes or until the yorkshire pud and risen.

  • really only good suasages will do.....actually I insist on good sauasages...you can't have this reciep if you use hoof and bollock sausages

* it takes alot* of pepper to make it taste peppery so I put quite abit in.

See, told you it was easy.

sunchowder · 09/11/2005 21:41

Thank you SO much Expat!!! I will post both of them under the ExpatinScotland Name! I really appreciate these and thanks again.

sunchowder · 09/11/2005 21:42

Bush's are the BEST beans, I agree with you Expat! They are my recommmended beans--I put together a pantry section with all of my recommended brands and Bush Beans are on my list!

It tastes even better the next day, sunchowder. I don't use as much molasses, b/c that's just me and I prefer things spicy rather than sweet.

I tried to use British Heinz beans once, and it wasn't the same. Not the same bean.

DH hates Heinz baked beans, but he loves the Bush's kind.

MMmmm.

I used to have this kick ass recipe for black-eyed pea salad, but it appears to have been lost in transit

sunchowder · 09/11/2005 22:19

If you ever want me to ship some to you, let me know. I have about six cans of original recipe in my pantry right now. I am going to try this recipe for sure, it looks really, really good. Thanks for thinking of me and taking the time to post. The cookbook is going to be so much nice due to everyone's recipes on here, much more diverse and delicious!

sunchowder · 09/11/2005 22:21

But....you must admit that Campbell's CANNOT compete with Heinz Cream of Tomato Soup!!! They make the best soup ever, we pay $2.50 a can, just to keep it instead of the American ones...
