DH staying in a travelodge or premierinn on summink next week.

He needs ideas other than pot noodle.

Apparently there's a tescos nearby.

What would you eat? For 10 days!

Is there not a microwave somewhere he could use?

KatyMac · 22/01/2011 16:26

Cous-cous
Cup a soup
Fresh filled pasta (a cheese/veggie one I'd think - he might need to refresh the water several times)

Take a toaster

& camping stove Wink

bellavita · 22/01/2011 16:26

Is this work related? Is he not getting expenses to go to a restaurant?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 22/01/2011 16:27

not sure he'll be allowed to use his stove.

My homeless brother (currently in a DSS B&B) boils eggs and heats up tins of things in his kettle (labels should be removed from tins).

But really, could your DH not just eat out or have cold picnics in his room?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 22/01/2011 16:30

i know farside, i've suggested this but wondered if mumsnet had any unthought of ideas
i could suggest.

if he can warm up can in his kettle, than anything like soup is available to him

bellavita · 22/01/2011 17:34

Do you have a microwave he can take? Then he can buy and heat up ready meals. How about getting a takeaway delivered a couple of times? Why can't he eat out dragonbutter?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 22/01/2011 19:43

Eating out not great as he's not staying in a great area so worried about being out after dark, and also it would be too expensive to eat out every night for 2 weeks. His days likely to be tiring too and he'll be alone (one hopes Wink).
i'm sure he won't starve though.

How about having his main meal at lunchtime then just having a baguette/sandwich for dinner?

Smash09 · 23/01/2011 22:45

I think instant soups and sandwiches as well as a couple of bags of fruit and some carrots/celery for a vitamin boost. Or failing that, smoothies.
And there's always cereal and milk...

AnyFuleKno · 23/01/2011 22:48

cous cous

fezsarecool · 23/01/2011 22:58

I saw microwaves at Kmart for $49 this week. Don't know how that works in pounds.

BonzoDooDah · 24/01/2011 00:26

He can use a travel iron to heat up flour tortillas and have burritos with (prepackaged) salad, grated cheese and cooked chicken strips.

AlmightyCitrus · 24/01/2011 00:44

You used to be able to get "pot mash" in some supermarkets. Just add boiling water, and there were pasta ones too, a little different than the usual pot noodle.

If it were me though I'd go along with the meal at luchtime and take a sandwich or salad back. Maybe take some cup-a-soups along to make it a bit more erm..interesting..

nevergoogledragonbutter · 24/01/2011 21:34

ironed burritos! that's fab.

he managed to pick up some hot roast chicken and some pasta salad from tescos and took it back. he has his own Alan Partridge large plate in his room.

no expenses. he's self funding this training.

I would take a slow cooker with me and leave in the room - endless possabilities of what you can make with a slow cooker Grin

AmanSomal · 25/01/2011 12:06

Haha! Ironed burritos and cans in kettles! Very innovative! I love this! Definately going to keep these ideas in mind for the future-you never know! Thanks all!

Sandwich Toaster!!Wink

Also Tiger Bread keeps well take a mini bread board and make some sandwiches

Take a Cooler bag add some ice daily and it will keep cheese/cold meats & salad fresh

oxocube · 25/01/2011 19:31

definitely sandwich toaster or one of those Foreman grill things. Might set off the smoke alarm though. What a fun thread Grin Am loving the idea of ironing burritos. It opens up a whole new world! How about ironed chapatis and M&S tinned curry boiled in the kettle?Grin

And the slow cooker idea is brilliant. Take your own chopping board and a couple of sharp knives and Bob's your uncle!!!!!

topsmart · 25/01/2011 19:43

Doesn't Terry Wogan talk about cooking bacon in a trouser press? I dare your DP to try it for us!

Otherwise: noodles. 2 weeks of pot noodles, every man's dream.

pointydug · 25/01/2011 19:44

Those sort of hoteal normally have a cafe/restuarant next door. Can't he eat there sometimes?

Otherwise, I'd buy wraps, dips, tortilla chips, salads, cold meat, loaf and other tasty things from m&S.

CMOTdibbler · 25/01/2011 19:52

Thai rice noodles cook in just hot water. Nice with cottage cheese (esp with a dash of sweet chilli sauce)/tuna/cooked chicken bits/prawns.

If he can bear tinned new potatos, they do expand the choices a bit - a hot chicken piece from tescos and salad for instance. The precooked rice is OK and doesn't need heating up, or could be put in a sieve and have boiling water poured over.

If he has a food thermos, then you can do fresh pasta in there - possibly dried would work with some experimentation

comewhinewithme · 25/01/2011 19:55

I have a toaster that you can boil/scramble/poach an egg in . Tis amazing Grin you can warm up beans/spaghetti in it too.

I think it cost about 30.00.

oxocube · 25/01/2011 20:27

really winewithme? Amazing! What a fab idea! I wonder if it was invented by someone stuck in a travel lodge for 2 weeks Grin
