Making cauliflower cheese (have already started cooking the cauliflower so can't abandon it now) I need 50g of plain flour, and I only have dregs in the bottom of the tub. What's the best alternative? I have SR flour or cornflour?

TIA!

cornflour

moondog · 21/09/2005 16:15

Either would do,but SR flour probably best.

zippitippitoes · 21/09/2005 16:15

SR flour should be fine

moondog · 21/09/2005 16:16

2 to 1 so far....

Any more?

Donk · 21/09/2005 16:16

Or a fine semolina

marthamoo · 21/09/2005 16:16

Damn, I'll just have to sit here a bit longer 'til I have a sizeable majority one way or another

Oooh!
A daring variation!

marthamoo · 21/09/2005 16:17

Now don't go throwing semolina into the mix, Donk - I don't have that either!

I have porridge oats...

I'd draw the line at Rice Krispies though...

Lonelymum · 21/09/2005 16:18

Self raising flour will be fine and works just the same as plain flour in this particular instance.

teeavee · 21/09/2005 16:18

cornflour, deffo

Lonelymum · 21/09/2005 16:19

Self raising!

Oh no, I have already voted.

gingerbear · 21/09/2005 16:19

You might have to sieve it with SR - IMO makes sauces lumpy.

tarantula · 21/09/2005 16:20

either will work just fine. cornflour is finer adn apparently you dont need to 'cook it out' like you do ordinary flour. Ohhhh hark at me and my culinary terms. Been watching too many cookery progs lately

TotallyGregariousMum · 21/09/2005 16:21

I would use self raising, myself.

Bozza · 21/09/2005 16:22

Either would be absolutely fine. Also I have no problems using SR flour for pastry/crumble.

FriendlyMum · 21/09/2005 16:22

I did this once and used SR flour.

So I agree with Lonelymum (or I am Lonelymum, whichever...)

marthamoo · 21/09/2005 16:23

I'm going for....

SELF RAISING!

Ta v. much. Catch ya later !

cornflour

MascaraOHara · 21/09/2005 16:40

Oh yes, if it's not too late use Cornflour (that's all I ever use for sauces)

spykid · 21/09/2005 16:40

cornflour!!!!

steffee · 21/09/2005 16:43

lol!

marthamoo · 21/09/2005 16:54
