Hi, I'm trying to get a bit healthier and have never really liked breakfast. I struggle for ideas as I don't like cerial, hate yoghurts, and am not keen on fruit! I know I could have toast or crumpets, but looking for more ideas/suggestions if anybody has any? Thanks Smile

Anything you'd eat for lunch or tea, I don't know why people think that breakfast has to be special foods. Must be Kellogg who started that nonsense.

I had melted cheese on tortillas for breakfast, DS1 had a bacon-fry up butty. Most days he has porridge. I often have the leftovers from the previous night (enchiladas, curry, rice with vegies and soy sauce, etc.).

I dislike cereal, too. Bananas, orange juice and chunks of cheese, those types of things are my breakfast some days, too.

ooh, nice to hear someone voice what I've been thinking. At the moment all I can face having is crisps and chocolate later in the day foods!

goodlifemummy · 14/11/2010 11:59

today - bagels with smoked salmon, cream cheese and a squeeze of lemon juice! But usually toast!

flibbertigibbert · 14/11/2010 12:21

I'm no fan of fruit but smoothies are a really good way of eating it. Yesterday I did a chocolate and raspberry smoothie -

banana
100g frozen raspberries
large cup of milk
spoonful of oats
tbsp cocoa powder

  • blitz it up with a hand blender.

This was amazing - like chocolate ice cream for breakfast.

twoboots · 14/11/2010 12:30

porridge with frozen berries and fybogel.

TheNextMrsDepp · 14/11/2010 12:33

Usually fruit (fresh or stewed) and greek yogurt, topped with nuts and seeds. Your pet hate breakfast, I guess!

I've been cutting back on carbs over the last few months, so avoiding cereal and bread.

If I have a bit more time I have something eggy (baked eggs a fave at the moment).

On Sundays, we have a bit more time, so this morning on the table was:

  • A really fresh loaf with butter, homemade maramalade, jam and marmite
  • Fruit salad - melon, grapes, apple and banana with some lemon juice
  • Actimels
  • Homemade granola
  • Some slices of homemade Madeira cake I made yesterday

I only ate the fruit as I'm trying to shed a few pounds. I also had coffee.

Most mornings, I have fruit and fibre and sometimes granola or porridge.

Smash09 · 14/11/2010 13:45

Weekdays I usually have fruit or juice, porridge and toast if still hungry.

My porridge is: Half a mug of oats, a whole mug of fullfat milk, microwaved for 3 mins. Lovely every time.

KurriKurri · 14/11/2010 15:06

I often have eggs, - scrambled or boiled, I think it's good to start the day with some protein.

Other than that do you like cooked fruit? stewed apple is nice with a bit of cinnamon. Or a baked apple stuffed with raisins.

missmartha · 14/11/2010 17:30

I loathe cereal and can't remember the last time I ate any or why I would.

I usually have a poached egg on whole meal toast and a banana.

A cuppa is a given.

bamboobutton · 14/11/2010 17:33

i have eggs and soldiers. i have to make the most of them as we're giving our chickens to my sister soon as new landlord won't allow them, boo

abr1de · 14/11/2010 17:38

Porridge with some frozen berries. Put milk or milk/water and oats in fairly tall bowl along with a handful of frozen berries (Waitrose do them). Zap in microwave for two minutes. Serve with yoghurt and a bit of brown sugar.

This is my winter weekday breakfast.

winnybella · 14/11/2010 17:40

Cup of coffee and a cigarette.

Rarely soft boiled eggs and fresh baguette with salty butter.

meltedmarsbars · 14/11/2010 22:04

Traditional scots breakfast Smile

extremelychocolateymilkroll · 14/11/2010 22:04

Sorry - to answer Pinkismyfavouritecrayon - midweek sometimes just a banana but if I have time I have oatibix, almonds and either dried raisins or fresh fruit plus milk. At the weekends sometimes a chocolate croissant.

BelaLugosiinStripes · 14/11/2010 22:25

Porridge with milk, a chopped apple, 30g raisins, 10g flaked almonds (protein) and a sprinkling of allspice. Put in fridge overnight, microwave on 70% for 6 mins.
Coffee. Big glass of water.
Keeps hunger at bay for 5 hours :)

Hassled · 14/11/2010 22:28

Coffee, then tea, then coffee, then school run, then coffee, then 2 slices of toast - one with peanut butter and marmite on top, one with Nutella. Keeps me going for ages - I never really snack.

charlieandlola · 14/11/2010 22:30

Banana on toast
tomatoes on toast
ham and cheese toastie
dairylea on toast

hate cereal, hate eggs, hate milk. Bfast is wheat central in my house!
