What do your kids drink?

I know water and milk are obviously the healthiest drinks but I am trying to find other things that are ok. My dentist tells me fruit juice and squash has too much acid, sugar. My daughter does not like plain milk and gets fed up with water.

Just wondering what most kids drink.

Occasionally Juice
Very occasionally on a special occasion (this usally seems to mean being in pizza express) they have coke or fizzy drink.

They are 10 and 7.

weak (high juice) squash
Apple juice
orange juice
loads of water
milk
occasional fizzy (once a month max)

they are 4 & 6

pongonperdy · 27/10/2010 19:18

Are fruit shoots the devils work or are the low sugar ones ok.

my cousin works for britvic and gets them free, he does NOT give them to his kids. That was enough for me.

collision · 27/10/2010 19:20

gin

colditz · 27/10/2010 19:24

Water, milk, piss-weak squash, and very very rarely, so very rarely that my children obsess about it - they have coke.

ScMacBt · 27/10/2010 19:25

Flavoured water, milk, Strawberry milk and apple/orange juice.

Ds is not really into fizzy juice thank goodness, although he occasionally asks for one of those tiny tiny cans of sprite/fanta.

collision · 27/10/2010 19:26

We let them have coke if we go out but we dont have it in the house

Milk
water
cordial
juice if I remember to buy it
DS2 likes a cup of tea to dunk biscuits in
Hot chocolate

CerealOffender · 27/10/2010 19:28

pina colada is a fantastic way to get some fruit into them

pintyblud · 27/10/2010 19:28

oh yes, hot chocolate.

EnSuiteShed · 27/10/2010 19:30

The only thing my ds drinks is very watered down apple juice.

He has prescription milk at bedtime.

ZZZenAgain · 27/10/2010 19:31

water
peppermint tea

sometimes milk but not much these days (she's 10)

smokinpumpkins · 27/10/2010 19:34

Mine are 4 and 2

They have milk with their breakfast, water in the day at nursery/school, a little squash with their lunch, water with meal and milk in the evening.

Every now and then they have a ribena carton or a fruit shoot if we are out and about.

funtimewincies · 27/10/2010 19:34

Ds1 (nearly 4) has...

Milk
Water
'Smoothie Juice' (Innocent smoothie, once every few days)
Weak squash (he remembers once I've made it that he really isn't that keen but likes the idea)
'Pink milk' (no added sugar strawberry milkshake, again, every now and then.

He's quite happy with these at the moment, but I fear that it won't be long before he discovers stuff that I'm less keen on.

Ds2 (nearly 11 months) just has water or formula.

Takver · 27/10/2010 19:35

Most of the things listed on here, but dd also likes

barleycup made quite milky
peppermint tea
limeflower tea
ovaltine (mostly I make it with hot water & just add a bit of milk as if I were making instant coffee, IYSWIM)

I know a lot of children who like peppermint tea, so that might be worth a try (although I do know a lot of hippy children, to be fair)

Rhian82 · 27/10/2010 19:46

At home we only really give DS (2) water and milk, which luckily he still loves. When out we'll get water, but if I have something like a milkshake, I'll let him taste it. He has fruit juice at nursery but I know DH disapproves!

Ooh - we do occasionally make banana smoothies (just milk and bananas in a blender, maybe with some ice), which DS loves.

Francagoestohollywood · 27/10/2010 19:47

Water. I occasionally buy some fruit juice, which, I'm told is quite bad for teeth.
Ds likes tea (to dunk biscuits) and has milk on his cereals. Dd doesn't like milk, so I give her lots of cheese (she favours Parmigiano)

Ishouldhavechosenagoldfish · 27/10/2010 19:52

Fruit tea. If I'm really organised, I keep some in the fridge.

Hulababy · 27/10/2010 19:52

DD is 8y so I am far more relxed these days.

When she was smaller it was almost always water and some fruit juice. She has never liked milk.

At home now DD has water or fruit juice. I only ever buy squash for very rare occasions - have some in today as she is having a sleepover. She makes milkshakes with fresh fruit too.

When out and about she likes to have the odd lemonade too. And she has had a Coke about 3 times so far - not convinced she likes it.

taffetawitchescat · 27/10/2010 20:38

DC 4 and 6.

Water, milk most of the time. Diluted squash and fruit juice, smoothies etc only with meals as advised by dentist. More saliva produced whilst eating so OK to have these drinks with meals but not when not eating.

As a treat sometimes in the summer, make up a jug of mixed fruit juice with some lemonade in. Don't like the no added sugar sort of anything as it means sweeteners.

Very milky tea occasionally and hot chocolate about 4 times a year, in their special hot chocolate mugs. Grin

We eat out very very infrequently so when we do they can choose what they like. (non alcoholic!)

They also both drink an Actimel each day.

missnevermind · 27/10/2010 22:02

Ds1 12. Has Squash, tea, milk - lots of. Some water, no fizz whatsoever. No coke at all - ever. Milkshakes and hot chocolate, occasional decaf coffe.

DS2 9 same but no tea or coffee.

DS3 nearly 2 cows milk, very weak squash. Anything the others have and leave unguarded long enough.
