Do people still have puddings?

Just wondering what the norm is. We don't tend to have dessert very often. However have noticed that at nursery and school they get dessert every day.

We only have one when we've got family or other people round. But sometimes we have pudding instead of a main course to make up for it!

Unprune · 14/10/2010 14:51

Very rarely.
But ds (despite a good diet and a reasonable appetite) has got 'the autumn scrawns' - ie he's getting a bit thin again, it seems to happen every year. So we are having a lot more puddings (and he's having a LOT of cheesy mash etc).

lynniep · 14/10/2010 14:56

The kids do yes. Yoghurt or fruit or a bit of cake if we have one, maybe ice-cream in the summer. Never like a sponge and custard or anything (But they do at nursery)

But us grownups dont. Although DH has a massive stash of chocolates and biscuits he keeps in the cupboards for after tea

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 14/10/2010 14:58

Other than yoghourt or fruit no, never, except at a dinner party. Grew up having all those disgusting sponge/suet puddings and I hate them.

NormalityBites · 14/10/2010 15:00

Pudding as in dessert, afters, a sweet course? Yes, about 3-4 times a week Grin

Pudding as in suet pudding, treacle pudding, steamed in a pudding bowl....about 3-4 times a year.

I love pudding. I have just made a cake for today :)

Unprune · 14/10/2010 15:23

We're having Eve's pudding tonight

burningcakeyatthestakey · 14/10/2010 16:23

I always give DD1 a dessert, not often for me or DH though as we really don't need the extra calories.

I do love proper puddings though - with custard if possible. The dessert menu/trolley is my favourite part of eating out. I'll forgo a starter so that I can have dessert Grin

tvaerialmagpiebin · 14/10/2010 16:36

mmmmmm custard. I have just got an apple pie out of the freezer and I am going to have it for supper once ds is in bed.

GrimmaTheNome · 14/10/2010 16:44

we sometimes do at this time of year - apple or damson crumble.

GraceK · 14/10/2010 16:49

Yes always. Yogurt or fruit at lunch time. Proper pudding in the evening - minimum of a couple of squares of chocolate through to cake / sponge / mousse. I crave a few mouthfuls of something sweet at the end of a meal or I don't feel I've had a proper meal. 80% time home made sinve I find baking is a fab way to occupy DD1 (aged 4) especially when too wet or cold to go to the park. Curretly chocolate mocha sponge with 'blonde' cream courtesy of Nigella's Feast book.

I agree with BurningCake - always happy to skip the starter so I can have pudding. I hate restaurants that don't put their pudding on the main menu so you have to guess whether to order a starter or not.

Psychommead · 14/10/2010 16:49

Maybe once a week, on a Sunday.

Meglet · 14/10/2010 17:02

Always, why wouldn't you Shock. I have GU puds or a sainsburys own brand version.

The dc's have fromage frais, fruit etc.

KenDoddsDadsZombieDogsNotDead · 14/10/2010 17:07

Some nights yes. In the summer normally fruit. DD's nursery gives her lovely puddings. Always says ate all in her diary too!

minipie · 14/10/2010 17:15

We have a few squares of chocolate and/or fruit. Maybe yoghurt.

Never anything else, except if we have people round or there's some left over from having people round.

I'm not really a big fan of sweet things, would much rather get my calories from cheese and salami.

lottiejenkins · 14/10/2010 17:19

We have pud all the time here....... I am a bit of a pud officianado!!! Toffee apple crumble! Chocolate Puddle Pudding.... Rice Pudding!

FloraFinching · 14/10/2010 17:25

always.
I usually bake at the weekend, so the first half of the week we'll have cake and custard or a traybake or something. When that's finished we'll have fruit instead.

I'm on leave today, so we've got lemon curd layer cake. yum.

yellowflowers · 14/10/2010 17:27

mmm - i like something sweet post dinner, though happy with fruit of yoghurt

IrmaGhostSlayer · 14/10/2010 17:35

We always have Pud at Mils and normally take extra portions home.

I used to make my parents have a different dessert than me so I could get to try theirs.

I would love to visit the pudding club too

AbsofCroissant · 14/10/2010 17:45

Never. Occassionally when eating at friends' houses, but typically only fruit or something very light, never at home.

GivesHeadlessHorseman · 14/10/2010 17:52

Very rarely except Sundays in winter after a roast, or if we have guests over.

undercovamutha · 14/10/2010 18:02

DCs have fruit after their tea, and have puddings after their main meal at school/nursery. They also have bananas and custard on a sunday.

Me and DH don't have anything after our main meal, but quite often steal a yoghurt or choc mousse later on!

I quite often have a small piece of cake after lunch too [greedy emoticon].

Crazycow00slevin · 14/10/2010 18:03

As a child we had pudding every day but when I moved out and married DH we only ever did when we were entertaining. Now DD is here and i need a bribe to make her finish dinner so pudding again is every day. She chooses though from fruit or jelly or cheese and biscuits - equal favourites! I have pudding/dessert when i fancy and love to make a crumble to have with custard yum!

Othersideofthechannel · 14/10/2010 18:56

Yes, sometimes three times a day because it's usually fruit and or yoghurt and DD still gets the names of the meals mixed up and often asks if she can have a dessert after breakfast.

PatriciaHolm · 14/10/2010 18:56

Me and DH - never, unless at MILs or out! The children will usually have some fruit, yoghurt, occasionally jelly or custard. I would rather waste the calories on some good cheese Grin

strandedatsea · 14/10/2010 19:05

Always in the evening - although it's usually yoghurt, occasionally sorbet or something with fruit. I don't think a meal is complete without something sweet at the end. We also have a square of dark chocolate each after every evening meal.

Dd's get yoghurt, ice cream or something similar after their suppers. I always pack them some fruit and sometimes biscuits or a yoghurt for lunch.
