Do people still have puddings?

Just wondering what the norm is. We don't tend to have dessert very often. However have noticed that at nursery and school they get dessert every day.

Rarely!

I don't give DS pudding as don't want to get into the habit of him "having" to finish his main meal to get a dessert. He gets fruit with his breakfast and mid morning snack.

When he's older, will probably have desserts a bit after dinner or lunch at the weekend - again separated so he eats as much as he needs.

Sounds good in theory anyway Grin

A woman who is tired of pudding is a woman who is tired of life.

I love all puddings but unfortunately my DH and sons are deviants in that they do not like any creamy puddings so we never have mousse/custard/fools or even light cheesecake. The tunglers only like heavy traditional puddings like crumble/roly poly/steamed sponges etc. I am of the opinion that pudding is a joyous thing that we can all have every day - so why not?

6pack · 15/10/2010 10:09

Fruit or yogurt, yogurt or fruit, or fruit or yogurt. I get sick of cooking. Otherwise it would be chocolate cake, non-chocolate cake, any cake, apple crumble and clotted cream (organic of course, then it's healthy), cheesecake, apple pie, apple cake. We'd all be awfully fat though.

6pack · 15/10/2010 10:14

.........(continued)..Though I guess we don't need to eat all of them, everyday. Puddings bring great joy to life.:o Btw none of us are fat.

NormalityBites · 15/10/2010 11:10

We're in the lots of puddings camp and none of us are fat either. I also have a well stocked cake tin and can regularly be found licking the bowl (though I have to fight DD for it!)

Poshpaws · 15/10/2010 11:14

Tends to be once a week on a Sunday. Children get them almost everyday: yoghurt, fruit, mousse, custard, cake. However, if what they want isn't available, they choose to go without.

I find I am too full after my supper to have a dessert, but the thought of one is lovely Smile

Jux · 15/10/2010 11:25

DD gets a piece of fruit and a small chocolate bar in her lunchbox everyday. She stuffs herself on fruit when she gets home.

We have pudding on Sunday if I'm doing a roast, which is only when dh isn't gigging somewhere.

AngelsOnHigh · 15/10/2010 11:38

Usually fruit salad in our house. Nothing better than finishing off a great meal with a nice fresh fruit salad.

Occasionally a scoop of icecream with it might be included

carriedababi · 15/10/2010 11:40

yep most days

we love them, but we love food

Smash09 · 15/10/2010 15:37

We like to have something sweet an hour or two after meals, yes Smile I think it can be a nice way of getting extra nutrients without getting bored of savoury foods! So most days we have yoghurts, fruit salad, crumbles and custard, cooked fruit, or chocolate. Once a week we'll make something like a treacle sponge or tart, or chocolate pudding etc.

Le11 · 15/10/2010 15:46

We have puddings as a treat on Sundays when there is more time to sit together and eat. Taking time over a leisurely meal together. That makes it a double treat really. Favourites include ice cream, fruit, crumble made with fruit we have picked together, meringues with raspberries from the garden which we froze a small handful at a time. That all makes it more fun. Fun and food, two of my favourite pass-times bundled together.

MiniMarmite · 15/10/2010 16:51

We usually have fruit after lunch and dinner.

We have yoghurt from time to time. If we have guests we have a 'proper' pudding (and if there is any left over have that as pudding later in the week.

And then when DS is in bed we might have biscuits, chocolate, cheese and justify ourselves on the basis of having eaten the main meal at 6p.m. so we're getting peckish again by 8:30 Blush

tinkhasboughtoutalltheshops · 15/10/2010 17:59

oh yes have a pudding section inmy tummy i always make room for tummy i usually have chocolate or semolina

Lynli · 15/10/2010 18:47

Never eat it myself, don't have sugar.

Always have something available, only serve it when requested.

DH eats 6000 calories a day and is stick thin, unfoortunately for DS he takes after me.

pongonperdy · 15/10/2010 18:47

Ok. In that case what is your all time favourite pud. Mine is chocolate souflfle and cream. Yum.

I don't understand these people who eat sqaures of chocolate. All the bars I eat are rectangular.Grin [we a need fat happy pig emoticon]

yellowflowers · 15/10/2010 19:30

I'm with choccyp1g!

KenDoddsDadsZombieDogsNotDead · 15/10/2010 20:24

I think that the people who swear to eat one square of 70% Green & Blacks secretly scoff mars bars in bed.

Maria2007loveshersleep · 15/10/2010 20:36

We have dessert about once or twice a week, usually when we have friends over. I love love love baking but wouldn't dream of having dessert everyday after meals (health/calorie reasons).

We often make cookies with 2 year old DS though, as an activity on rainy days. And DP always has chocolate bars stashed away in the cupboards & munches on them throughout the day (but is stick thin gggggrrrrr)....

whomovedmychocolate · 15/10/2010 20:38

Oh yes. Tonight we had clotted cream vanilla ice cream with flakes of G&Bs mayan gold chocolate on top. T'was scrumptillicious! Grin

FranknCock · 15/10/2010 22:24

Never, unless we're entertaining, which is not that often. DS gets it every day at nursery, and DH is quite jealous. DH has a sweet tooth, but I don't, so it simply doesn't occur to me. If we eat out and there's a deal on two courses, I'll always have a starter/main rather than a main/dessert.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 15/10/2010 23:19

DS usually has yoghurt at lunchtime and custard or a digestive biscuit after teatime. but since we visited my american friends he has developed a passion for Oreos!

I love crumbles and cheesecakes but am currently trying to be good so am not buying them at all. DH is not happy ... but he has a a tummy to be reduced too, so tough! He always has chocolate after his lunch at work and has been caught eating jam out of the jar with a teaspoon in the dark kitchen!

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 15/10/2010 23:20

whomovedmychocolate, that sounds absolutely yummy! {files away for future reference}

rowingboat · 16/10/2010 08:24

I do have puddings, but I wouldn't describe my self as rake-like. I'm probably (who am I kidding) slightly over-weight even though I cycle everyday. Don't try to take my pudding away!

Are all the non-pudding people very slim?

Bunbaker · 16/10/2010 09:07

"I don't understand these people who eat sqaures of chocolate. All the bars I eat are rectangular"

I am one of those strange people who simply can't face scoffing a large bar of chocolate in one go. I can't face a whole box of chocolates either, preferring to eat two or three and going back to it later or the next day.

Too much chocolate in one go makes me feel sick and gives me an upset stomach.

As for favourite puddings: friut crumble, Eve's pudding and Gateau Pithiviers are my favourites. I can't eat cream and find that now I don't even like it any more, so I avoid creamy puddings like the plague.
