If your DC have their main meal at 4pm do they have anything else before they go to bed?

4pm? What time do they go to bed? Hmm

We eat at 6 or 6.30, then I can eat with them too and not feel like its still the middle of the day.

domesticsluttery · 21/09/2010 12:46

When my DC were younger they used to eat at about 4.30pm as they would be in bed by 6pm. So they didn't have anything more before bed.

But now they are all in school at least one of them often isn't home from after school clubs till 5 or 6, so we eat together at 6pm.

Seona1973 · 21/09/2010 12:57

mine eat sometime between 5 and 5.30pm and me and dh eat later when the kids are in bed.

comewhinewithme · 21/09/2010 12:59

5 and 5.30 here we used to eat earliar but they were always starving again by 6pm.

FoghornLeghorn · 21/09/2010 12:59

DH used to feed the girls at around 4.30 - 5 then we would eat later - however, since the school holiday we have all started eating together at 6 pm and it works really well.

My DD's are 6, 3 and 2 btw. They get to have a bedtime snack before bed too - like a biscuit or some grapes/strawberrys etc

PictureThis · 21/09/2010 13:02

My DD (3.6) eats at 4 and is in bed by 6. She doesn't have anything in between. Although if it were up to her she would graze right up until bedtime Grin

nappyaddict · 21/09/2010 13:52

Is it lights out at 6 or does she have stories etc first?

lifesucks · 21/09/2010 14:06

my dd9 and dd3 eat dinner at 4-4.30 and then have snacks at 6ish.i give them dinner early so they eat it and not fill up on snacks and not eat dinner.my dd3 goes to bed at 7 and dd9 goes at 8

4plus1 · 21/09/2010 15:57

When i'm working,(3days week), my dc eat dinner at their grannys at 4/4.30, which is a real help. They usually have some toast& cheese at about 7 and then get sorted for story and bed at 8.

PictureThis · 22/09/2010 19:39

She does have a story first and looks a books too, but she absolutely loves and needs her sleep.

nappyaddict · 23/09/2010 09:09

DS is the same. What time is it lights out?

LutyensCBA · 23/09/2010 09:33

DD has her dinner at 6ish depending on how fast I can cook. Dh is just in through the door at 6.30 so we have our dinner together at 7.30 and dd has her pudding (usually sliced fruit) sitting with us. Bedtime for dd is 8pm.

BunnyLebowski · 23/09/2010 09:35

Crikey. DD has her dinner between 6 and 7.30pm and goes to bed between 8 and 8.30pm.

If I out her to bed at 6pm she'd be up and raring to go at 3 in the morning!!

Oh how I wish I had a toddler that slept long and deeply Sad.

LutyensCBA · 23/09/2010 09:55

Bunny, we have the same problem. If dd went to bed before 8, she'd be bouncing off the walls at 4 and would be exhausted by the time we set off for school at 8.15! It was such a relief when it dawned on us that a late bedtime isn't the worst thing in the world Grin. DD now wakes up at 7.15 bright as a button with ample time for getting dressed and the obligatory time-squandering Hmm and we're out of the house bang on time with nary a problem Smile

Sorry for going off-track, OP

BunnyLebowski · 23/09/2010 10:03

Glad it's not just us Lutyens Smile.

Sometimes it feels like DP and I don't have much time together in the evenings (I work a few evenings a week too) but putting her to bed later is the only way to ensure we'll all get a vaguely normal night's sleep.

Even when she goes down at 8.30pm she still sometimes wakes up at 3-4am and that's after a full day of playgroup/the park/playdates Sad Sad.

welshandproud · 23/09/2010 10:12

My DC have a snack around 4, some fruit or a biscuit or maybe a piece of toast and a drink. We then eat at 6pm as a family when DP comes home. I personally think family meal times are really important for communicating with each other so make a point of having a meal together every day. My DC range in age from 11 to 1 year. At the moment they all go to bed around 8-8.30 but my eldest DD has half hour reading time after that. The youngest ones usually wake around 7am but then I wake 11 year old at 7.30am.I have often contemplated an earlier bed time but then they wouldn't see their dad on weekdays if I did that.

Aitch · 23/09/2010 10:14

mine have just started school and nursery and are wiped out in the afternoons, so we've been eating at 5 and they've been asleep by 6.30pm. LONG may it last... Grin

BobLoblaw · 23/09/2010 10:30

Ds has a snack when he gets home from school fruit, toast or cheese and crackers, then we eat dinner at 6 when dp gets home from work. He's 6 and goes to bed at 7ish. Dd on the other hand is a law unto herself Shock

simpson · 23/09/2010 18:28

My Dcs (5 & 2) have tea at 4/4.30.

DD goes to bed at 6/6.30 with a beaker of milk.

DS then has a cheese string & apple once DD is in bed and goes up to bed himself around 7 Smile

I eat once kids are in bed with a glass of wine Grin

SixtyFootDoll · 23/09/2010 18:30

DS have tea/ dinner at 4.30 - 5pm if no clubs after school.Normally have cereal or toast about 7-8pm.

PictureThis · 23/09/2010 19:23

Nappyaddict, bed at 6, lights out at 6.15 usually.

nappyaddict · 23/09/2010 20:06

DS went to bed at 5:30 today!! Hope he gets used to being at school soon, else we are going to get in the cycle of him getting up ridiculously early then being shattered by 5 and going straight to sleep.

nappyaddict · 23/09/2010 20:18

DS goes to sleep about 6:30 (in bed between 6 and 6.15) and gets up about 6:30.
