I didn't even know she had a new book! What's it about...well, food i guess, but would you care to fill me in a bit more? Grin

TitsalinaBumSquash · 30/08/2010 15:49

I bought the Mail yesterday just for the magazine with a preview of her recipes and the look really nice.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 30/08/2010 17:43

The marmelade pudding looks rather nice! And I want to have a go at the thai chicken noodle soup too.

AspieGirl · 31/08/2010 01:37

I like Nigella. I'll be getting it for my cookbook collection. I like the sound of marmalade pudding!!!

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 31/08/2010 09:28

AspieGirl - are you like me - you buy lots of cookbooks to look at and read, but then stick to recipes from only a few? Shamefully, I reckon I have more cookbooks that I haven't cooked one single recipe from than ones that I have. Blush

AspieGirl · 31/08/2010 12:37

Yes...just like that...it drives hubbie mad. I keep promising to stop buying them...amd then I see another one!!!

MoonFaceMama · 01/09/2010 13:00

Thanks for the link jenk Smile

It does look lovely, as does nigella! Grin

I got it yesterday, I love Nigella. I got "How to Eat" when ds1 was a newborn, did lots of cooking from it in the early days when he was napping or beside me in his baby seat. Happy memories Smile He is now a 12 year old, nearly as tall as me and so grown up.

Anyway she has a recipe in the new book for red velvet cake, and she writes about making it for her dds 16th birthday and how it seems such a short time since she was describing how to make the Barbie cake for her 4th bday.

She seems like a really nice person, the kind you'd like to be your friend. Esp if she brings a cake when she visits Smile

ChaosTrulyReigns · 12/09/2010 16:44

Are you me SDTG?

I have so many cookbooks and good intentions but, no, hardly use them once the initual flicking and stroking wears off. And they take up a lot of room in a small kitchen.

I used Nigella's Brownie recipe out if Mail on Sunday and my word it was yummy - try it, do.

domesticsluttery · 12/09/2010 16:51

I bought the book, and have to say that it is far better than some of here recent ones. There are lots of things in there that I would cook on a regular basis.

bunjies · 12/09/2010 16:52

I made the meat loaf recipe from the DM article nd despite it falling apart when I sliced it, it did taste delicious. Especially left overs next day for lunch.

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 12/09/2010 16:57

Chaos - I just checked inside my knickers, and apparently I am not you, I am StMichael!! Wink

We are clearly a case of Great Minds Thinking Alike! Smile

ChaosTrulyReigns · 12/09/2010 21:16

Hello StMichael - I'm Sloggi, nice to meet you!

Here is the brownie recipe for anyone who is interested.

AgentProvocateur · 12/09/2010 22:04

I bought this book last week, and it looks great. I made the marmalade cake/pudding thing, and it was good, although not very marmalade-y. The book has now migrated from the kitchen to the bedroom, where I shall enjoy reading it and never cooking anything from it again.

fruitstick · 12/09/2010 22:27

I really want to buy this one but often find her recipes are all a bit samey between books.

Does this one have lots of normal family recipes that we can all eat (rather than lots of 'summer lunch for 10' recipes for people with more friends than me)

domesticsluttery · 13/09/2010 09:48

Yes it has lots of family supper recipes in it, things like fajitas, stir fries, pasta dishes etc.

cazzybabs · 13/09/2010 09:57

Someone on here said about it is full of carbs and meat...it is...certianly not one to buy if you are hoping to lose some baby weight (whoops)... it is OK.. there is lots I wouldn't cook. Not as good as feast.

I have recently bought some of the Rachel Allen books which are fab

fruitstick · 13/09/2010 10:05

Ooh, I tried one of Rachel Allen's recipes and it was fab.

I love carbs and meat but probably shouldn't Blush

Really I'm after some inspiration for something the kids will eat with us (at the moment I seem to cook about 8 different meals a day)

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 13/09/2010 10:20

I've already got several of Nigella's books - in fact, I made the sticky spare ribs from her 'Forever Summer' book last night - I've made them several times this summer, and they are a huge hit with the family.

I've also made her clementine cake a couple of times - it is so easy to make, tastes delicious, and keeps well too (or so I am told - it has never lasted long enough in this house!!). I love the whole boil up the clementines, blitz them then add the rest of the ingredients and blitz again - it is just so easy.

I'm going to make the lemon and garlic roast chicken this week - I've done it before and it is rather tasty (and easy to cook too - and I am a lazy mare), but this time I am going to have a go at the braised little gem lettuces to go with.

Fruitstick - if your kids are OK with spicy-ish food, I'd recommend the ribs - you do use red chilli and ginger in the recipe, but also runny honey and chinese five spice, and to be honest they are more chinese-y than spicy.

If your children like tomato sauces, a basic tomato sauce with bacon in is nice (and quick and easy), plus you can sneak in extra veggies. I'd recommend the garlic and lemon roast chicken too - I do it with drumsticks and thighs, and most children seem to like food like that that they can pick up.

I also do a risotto recipe - well, it isn't a classic risotto because I use long grain rice (it's my mum's recipe) but it is very tasty, and just as good cold the next day. You brown finely chopped onion with some bacon lardons and the long grain rice until the rice is all lightly browned, then add chicken stock. Let this cook, topping up with more stock or water as needed, and towards the end, add some cooked chicken. Just as it is all cooked, stir in some cooked peas/sweetcorn, and some chunks of boiled egg - allow these to warm, and then serve. It is yummy, I promise.

LowLevelWhiinging · 13/09/2010 20:33

I got all excited and bought this at tesco today and I'm a wee bit disappointed with the first flick through. Not much has tempted me and some of it does look rather familiar.

I have loved Nigella's books (How To Eat is a classic), but not much is grabbing me so far. I'm not into cakes or puddings so any savoury recommendations?

happywheezer · 13/09/2010 20:39

I bought Kitchen the first day it came out in waterstones.
I also had it ordered from Amazon but couldn't wait.
I love her! This book is great, I think the best since how to eat, but as that didn't have pictures....
I've cooked the teriaki and cookies.
the only thing it does need is more cakes, it's lacking in the sugar department for Nigella.

dairymoo · 13/09/2010 21:32

I love this book. Have made Mexican Lasagne which was delish and have got Cheesy Chilli, Mum's Special Chicken and Thai Chicken Noodle Soup on the menu this week!
