have got it today for my birthday present

wow it is fab... it might even better than my all time fav book, domestic goddess

Don;t like nigella's stuff at all. Lots of jars of sweet stuff thrown in, nothing that I can't find that someone else does better.

SexyDomesticatedDad · 15/09/2010 14:27

I must resist....I must resist....DW says no to any new food porn books (but she says JO At Home is OK as found some nice recipes whilst staying at SIL). Maybe I can buy it and put a diferent cover on it?? Have all her other books so is there many recipes which are in the old books?

HTBADG - is getting quite a bit of use again, now inspired by the Great British Bake Off.

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/09/2010 14:50

I love Nigella's books and own them all, and bought this one last week, and as much as I love her writing i really don't see the point of this one.

The others have a definite them, however this one seems to have no defning point on which it has been based.

There are a couple of interesting recipes (the peanut butter cheesecake for one) however nothing seems to grab me.

I find the book very amusing though - the ohotographs are in full blazing technicolour, makes it look like my gran's Dairy Diary cookbook from the 70s.

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/09/2010 14:50

Have a definite theme, I meant.

SexyDomesticatedDad · 15/09/2010 14:52

So just midless food porn then?? I'm sure I'll find a bit of shelf space though - would love to go to her book signing on this one too.

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/09/2010 14:54

Nowt wrong with mindless food porn, in my book.

My DP thinks i am mad because I bought the book and read it in bed that night. Love reading recipe books for pleasure.

AgentProvocateur · 15/09/2010 20:11

SDD my DH made up a "one in, one out" for cookbooks because they were in danger of taking over the house. So when I bought Nigella Kitchen I lied and told him that I'd thrown out "an old Italian one". Maybe you could do likewise.

mommybunny · 16/09/2010 12:33

Yep, it's a keeper. To read and cook from. Some of the recipes are derivative of others she's done in prior cookbooks, but not so much as to make the book a waste of money. I made the chorizo and chickpea stew - DS LOVED it, DD said she did but picked out all the bulgur wheat and left most of the rest Hmm. I thought it was very tasty, but 350g worth of chorizo is rather expensive for an "everyday" meal. You could easily use half that much and make up the rest of the "meat" weight with cheap supermarket lardons.

I would love to see more of these "celebrity" chefs embrace budget cooking!

pointydog · 16/09/2010 19:48

@ peanut butter cheesecake. Sums up bigella for me

nannyl · 18/09/2010 19:10

i had to get rid of 3 (small old never used) cook books to make space on my recipie book shelf for nigella's kitchen.

I too am allowed no more than 1 (really quite long) shelf full!...

(have suggested moving house for an even bigger kitchen to OH Wink)

Just made the banana/coconut/cherry cake from her new book, thumbs up from the whole family and I do believe that's a first...
