I'm taking my 8 and 9 yr old so I hope not...
The only thing I'm slightly worried about is Greyback the werewolf. neither of them liked the idea when we read the book.

JohnDory · 14/07/2009 16:26

Not taking my 9yo potter-fan DD

She is nightmare prone and only allowed to read the books in daytime

12a

not seen it obv, but if they have seen the others i'd prob take them

PandaG · 14/07/2009 16:32

aren't all 12's 12A's these days?

I personally won't be taking my 9yo DS, even though he is a great potter fan. He's read them all and watched the first couple of films but we have decided not to watch any further for a while yet. I think at 9 he can imagine the scary bits in tghe books to a level he can more or less cope with, but will get scared by the on screen images, just as he used to with Dr Who. (which we do sometimes censor still)

Tamarto · 14/07/2009 16:33

It's a 12a which means that unless you are over 12 you need an aduilt with you.

It will be a sad one so depends how they cope with that.

hannahsaunt · 14/07/2009 16:33

It's a 12A. I am now completely at the BBFC ratings - we have been v strict with our 2 so far and watched each HP DVD before they did to assess; the latter 2 were 12As when on in the cinema. Quite frankly, I don't know how esp given that Quantum of Solace was a 12A and in an entirely different league. We have happily let our 8.75yo and 6.5yo watch all 5 HPs and will be going to the cinema a deux to assess HP6 for suitability for either or both of the boys but fully anticipate being happy to take them both.

Dazmum · 14/07/2009 16:36

The dead bodies in the lake might be a bit scary too? depends how they show them. We are taking our 11 year old.

TrillianoftheShineyCult · 14/07/2009 16:58

Check it out here.

"Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince', a fantasy adventure film based on the book of the same title, finds Harry and his friends returning to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry for their sixth year. The film contains moderate threat.

The moderate threat occurs in one quite scary sequence in which Harry and Professor Dumbledore are attacked by menacing looking creatures that have emerged from an underground lake. Harry is pulled into the lake and dragged beneath the water. The scene has the potential to upset younger or more sensitive children. In another scene Draco Malfoy kicks Harry (below screen) and appears to break his nose; blood can be seen on Harry's face. Tables are turned later on in the film when Harry defeats Malfoy in a wand battle in the school toilets. Malfoy, who is rendered unconscious, has several bloodstains on his white shirt and his blood can be seen to mix with and cloud the water on the flooded floor. Malfoy, however, is soon completely healed by a nearby teacher.

The film contains mild language including the words 'God', 'bloody', tosser', 'sod', 'hell' and 'git'."

I have seen it and it's fab. You hardly see Fenrir. There is one very jumpy bit with the inferi - even though I was expecting it, it still made me jump.

It's a 12A and not very scarey at all, saw it this afternoon - only the bit where they grab him into the lake. My 8yo cried when dumbledore was killed, but then so did I, he certainly wasn't excessively upset, just the sort of sniffles that films induce in you. Good film imo. much to my embarassment i didn't even notice the swearing.

Loshad · 15/07/2009 22:01

oh btw Castille, thought it was a lot less scary than eg film 2 with the large snakey thing.

SobriquetDuJour · 15/07/2009 22:11

I took Ds (4) to Transformers II, is that really bad?

janeite · 15/07/2009 22:23

I didn't cry: couldn't feel over-moved now it's Michael Gambon.

janeite · 15/07/2009 22:23

Howled over Sirius in the last one though!

LadyGlencoraSnape · 15/07/2009 22:28

I'm taking my nine year old. She is pretty imperturbable. Not taking my sensitive, imaginative six year old though.

TheMoistWorldOfSeptimusQuench · 15/07/2009 22:30

DD's 7 year old friend has seen it (went to the premier ) and wasn't remotely scared. She loved it.

Greyback is super scary in the books though.

Quattrocento · 15/07/2009 22:31

It's a 12a, so your 9 year old will be allowed in.

My 9yo loved it - absolutely loved it

There were some 4/5 year olds in the cinema. Being a bit painful it has to be said - not because they were scared but because it was a bit too long and complicated for them so they kept running up and down the aisles.
