Hi
Have just signed up for Lovefilm trial and no have no idea what to order.

I've just watched Mamma Mia which I totally loved (even though its terribly cheesy) and really haven't seen that many films in the last few years.

I have seen the following and really enjoyed them so if you can suggest anything else that would be fab. (not into violent films)

Atonement
Love actually
the first bond film with daniel craig
iris
enigma
a few of the grisham films.

so any suggestions - think i like romantic comedy, a good drama, britflicks

TIA!

The Others is a creepy ghost film with Nicole Kidman, I liked it despite loathing her.

mosschops30 · 06/04/2009 18:30

American Beauty
The Wedding Singer
Notting Hill
Blades of Glory
Hitch

Shawshank Redemption if you haven't seen it, very uplifting.

I love Zoolander for it's hilarious piss take of the modelling industry.

Pushing Tin is very funny, about air traffic controllers, not a promising subject but very funny in a quirky way.

Mr and Mrs Smith for some eye candy (Brad... or Angelina if you prefer)

LA Confidential for some 50s glamour and crime.

will keep thinking....

lowrib · 06/04/2009 18:43

Secrets and Lies
Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe

HeadFairy · 06/04/2009 18:53

I love a few oldies too... how about Gone with the Wind? Some Hitchcock (North by Northwest, Rear Window?) or Marilyn Munroe (Some Like It Hot)...

slayerette · 06/04/2009 18:56

Have you seen A Time to Kill? - best Grisham adaptation IMO.

Pride and Prejudice; Sense and Sensibility (with Emma Thompson); Emma (with Gwyneth Paltrow) - best Austen adaptations and sooooooo watchable.

Calendar Girls is great fun.

Try Jack and Sarah with Richard E. Grant - lovely! About a man bringing up his newborn daughter alone after wife dies in childbirth - after v. sad opening, it is a rom-com, I promise.

Remains of the Day is a beautiful film starring Emma Thompson and Anthony Hopkins, set in 1930s England. British film at its best.

Have you see Music and Lyrics with Hugh Grant? Set in America but if you were a fan of the 80s/New Romantic music you have to see this for the pop video if nothing else. Rom-com.

Would second the Bourne films if you like Daniel Craig's Bond.

Spoo · 06/04/2009 19:00

What about Brokeback Mountain - a beautiful film.

bluebump · 06/04/2009 19:00

Hot Fuzz
Mallrats
Muriels Wedding
Love Actually
Ferris Beullers Day Off

I agree with the suggestions of Zoolander and The Others

luvaduck · 06/04/2009 19:20

Changeling
Nights in Rodanthe
Sex and the City Movie

slayerette · 06/04/2009 20:04

I think more recent movies maybe don't stand the test of time as well as some of the ones suggested here. Certainly most of my favourites that I enjoy rewatching are older.

I love:

Fargo
The Big Lebowski
Clueless for ditsy blonde romcom fun
Rear Window (Grace Kelly fantastically gorgeous)
I've seen a couple of brill French films recently, both of which I've really enjoyed:
A la folie, pas du tout (He loves me, he loves me not) and Ne le dis a personne (Tell No-one). Both highly commended and my (adult) French students enjoyed them.
