Hi
Have just signed up for Lovefilm trial and no have no idea what to order.

I've just watched Mamma Mia which I totally loved (even though its terribly cheesy) and really haven't seen that many films in the last few years.

I have seen the following and really enjoyed them so if you can suggest anything else that would be fab. (not into violent films)

Atonement
Love actually
the first bond film with daniel craig
iris
enigma
a few of the grisham films.

so any suggestions - think i like romantic comedy, a good drama, britflicks

TIA!

Reykjavik 101 - brilliant!

MaryAnnSailors · 06/04/2009 20:26

you have to see Central Station! It's beautiful!

chocolepew · 06/04/2009 20:29

SATC's good. Watched Blood Diamond last week it's very good, but a bit harrowing in parts.

chocolepew · 06/04/2009 20:29

Scrap that, just seen you don't like violent films

EffiePerine · 06/04/2009 20:34

What about trying some older films?

The Lady Eve
My Man Godfrey

others:
Cinema Paradiso is a fabulous film

lowrib · 06/04/2009 20:54

Chocolate is a beautiful film

HeadFairy · 07/04/2009 08:11

Lou33, I like your taste in films

Life is beautiful is sooo bittersweet, it's a beautiful film and the little boy is adoreable. Can't recommend highly enough. Get the hankies out though!

HeadFairy · 07/04/2009 08:14

Whatever happened to baby Jane is cracking, Bette Davis is bonkers!

Sunset boulevard is another classic oldie.

lou33 · 07/04/2009 10:15

headfairy thank you, if you like life is beautiful you will also like the boy in the striped pyjamas

HeadFairy · 07/04/2009 10:20

Really? I'll make sure I watch it when it's on Sky Movies. I'm thinking I'll need a hankie for that one too

HeadFairy · 07/04/2009 10:21

ooh thought of another one I love, Empire of the Sun. Forget Christian Bale as a ranty nutter, here he's a sweet little boy giving a great performance.

If you liked Atonement maybe try The Edge of Love?

Much Ado About Nothing is amazing even if you're not that into Shakespeare - the ultimate feelgood film IMO, I always cry at the end!

I quite enjoyed Marie-Antoinette. It was slated quite a lot when it was released, it's not exactly an indepth look at the life of Marie Antoinette, but it's gorgeous to look at, it'll get you yearning for a four foot high powdered wig and a skirt so wide you can't walk through doorways

The Hole is good too, Thora Birch is brilliant as the deranged nutter obssessed with a boy at school.

If you want something to scare you, The Descent is great. It's British so there aren't too many hugs and kisses and facing adversity together. It's terrifying though and totally bleak. But shocking too, excellent.

slayerette · 07/04/2009 12:13

Ooh - I love Much Ado, just didn't want to suggest it in case you all told me to go back to my sad English teacher cave and watch Shakespeare by myself

HeadFairy · 07/04/2009 12:22

Oh no slayerette, I enjoyed that too, mostly because I was going through a bit of a Keanu phase.

I did enjoy Mel Gibson as Hamlet too though purists would probably be disgusted at an Aussie playing the Dane

Mumcentreplus · 07/04/2009 13:09

Dangerous Liasons- the 80s one not the remake!...love that film

Equilibrium- Furturistic Sci-fi

All About Eve- Bette Davis need i say more?

The originals of The Grudge and The Ring/Ring 2 -sooo creepy

Mumcentreplus · 07/04/2009 13:12

I will always be in a Christian Bale phase..

He's a Method Actor...I wonder if he's a Method Lover?..

HeadFairy · 07/04/2009 13:15

ooh saucy mumcentre! Have you seen American Psycho? Ever so slightly bonkers!

IwoulddoDrWho · 07/04/2009 13:35

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe / Beaches / Steel Magnolias if you like good chick flicks.

About A Boy / Little Miss Sunshine if you like Richard Curtis films.

Second the Bourne films if you like James Bond.

Mumcentreplus · 07/04/2009 14:46

Bonkers and yet desirable..

HeadFairy · 07/04/2009 14:53

He's pretty gorgeous, but I wouldn't want to pick a fight with him, a bit too quick with his fists.

luvaduck · 07/04/2009 21:08

thanks all, this is great!
