Afraid of horror films at my age.

I'm 40 years old and the thought of watching horror films really does scare me. Has anybody seen the latest Friday the 13th series crystal Lake? There are scenes on there that I have come across and I really did find them very revolting. What films have you watched that you would never watch again despite your age?

I hate them. There are maybe 3 that I’d watch and I’m always jumpy afterwards!!

DeftGoldHedgehog · Yesterday 19:51

I'm 51 and there are plenty of films I wouldn't watch. Love a ghost story though.

nopenotplaying · Yesterday 19:52

Same. What concerns me most is that the e writers actually have the imagination to make up things like Saw etc. who would even think of that!

shellyleppard · Yesterday 19:52

I'm 56 and can't watch horror movies. Especially poltergeist....get so far in and I have to turn it off!!

nopenotplaying · Yesterday 19:52

ps Im a bit scared of ET 🤣

I’m 43 and I will never watch a scary film! I hate them and I genuinely don’t understand why anyone would enjoy being frightened! My husband once put a film on that he described as a ‘thriller’, it’s called Eden Lake and it petrified me. I couldn’t watch it all. It’s not gore that bothers me, I love shows like GoT’s but jumpy/psychological films etc just terrify me!

aperolspritzbasicbitch · Yesterday 20:03

Nope.

i can’t watch scary films that i watched when i was younger so know what’s going to happen, but that’s it.
haven’t watched anything made in the last 16 years.

Now THAT is an extreme film.

I’ve heard about it, but would never watch.

I'm 44 and hate horror films. I last watched one when I was about 18, it was on at a party and I realised I didn't have to watch it, and left the room. Horrible things.

I do like a spooky ghost story, but not violence or gore, or jump scares.

Oh god, seriously, it was horrendous. I’ll never forget it and by all accounts I didn’t watch the worst bit!

BoredZelda · Yesterday 20:06

Age has nothing to do with it.

Smartiepants79 · Yesterday 20:08

I loath horror and refuse to watch any of it.

Nincompoo · Yesterday 20:14

I’ve never liked horror films so I don’t watch them 🤷🏽‍♀️

LunaMoon1986 · Yesterday 20:18

@shellyleppardOhh that was deeply disturbing. Especially the old guy.

I'm older than you and I won't watch them either. They did show a season of Hammer Horror Dracula films on TV when I was about 20 and I quite enjoyed those, so that would've been late 1980s, but they were daft (and a bit sexy!) rather than scary. About as scary as the Rocky Horror Show. So not really horror.

LunaMoon1986 · Yesterday 20:20

@NincompooI have seen a few from being a kid. Like child's play. That doll chucky. What a nasty little thing.

@nopenotplayingGod yeahhh I hated the fact he created gross films. I have never seen any of the saw films in full. Non of the texas chainsaw either.

Love them. i'm enjoying Crystal Lake as well, it's surprisingly good and gory 😮

There's nothing wrong in not liking graphical violence and other intense scenes at any age. It is a bit scary how desensivitised some people are.

I'm using parent guide reviews to check the movies I want to see - it helps without spoiling too many details.
I've realised that if a relatively mainstream movie has one or two scenes which are a bit too much for me, knowing about it (and deciding to give it a try anyway) makes a huge difference for me.
The difference between feeling surprised and betreyed (by mainstream including too ugly scenes for my sensitivity) and knowing that I made the choice.

CheeseWisely · Yesterday 20:30

Same, I think the last horror film I watched was the one with Daniel Radcliffe and I was deathly hungover on my Grandma’s couch in the middle of the day.

I watched Saw at the cinema by accident (rainy day and a friend and I just asked for 2 tickets to whatever was starting next). We spent the whole film buried inside our hoodies, horrified, while those around us nonchalantly ate popcorn.

CarolineMJN · Yesterday 20:30

I’m 53 and I hate horror and murders and real crime - I also hate Halloween it scares me

havingoneofthosedays · Yesterday 20:33

I find these threads fascinating as I love horror, I do 31 days of Halloween every October and watch a horror a day 🎃. I’m 1st to the cinema to see the lasted horror release, it’s a billion dollar business in the movie world.
Isnt it just amazing that we all love different things, what a boring world if we didn’t 🤷🏼‍♀️

ToadRage · Yesterday 20:42

I hate them too. When I met my husband he has vast collection. Some of those I refused to watch then some i will refuse to watch ever again. The evil dead is one i won't watch again, child's play, wrong turn, nightmare on elm street, even joo-on and the ring

FrostyMorn · Yesterday 20:52

Absolutely hate them.
This probably barely counts as horror but I've been watching Widow's Bay with my partner and although I want to find out what happens I'm not sure I can bring myself to finish the series as it's really quite scary (but funny at least).
