Someone is going to pop up on here and tell me he was a terrible person probably...but before I have my bubble burst, what was your favourite Robert Redford film?

He was such a beautiful man.

Out of Africa was just so romantic. I love Meryl as well.

Yes I feel very sad about him dying, one of the last of the greats of that golden age I think.. I loved him in The Way We Were and also Barefoot in the Park with Jane Fonda.

I mean, look at him , my goodness..

Barefoot in the Park x

SodOffbacktoaibu · 16/09/2025 20:21

I only saw Butch Cassidy a couple years ago because I hadn't ever sat through it. It's a fabulous film. Such chemistry.

Definitely Out of Africa.

Does anyone else find the dynamic of her hanging off him and throwing herself at him and him trying to prise himself free from her slightly awkward in Barefoot in the Park? It is a bit before my time so maybe that was seen as a liberated woman or something back then? But she looks desperate to the point I find her unwatchable in it.

My favourite photo of him 😍

Butch Cassidy, I know it was a Paul Newman scene but Raindrops Keep Falling was one of my late dad’s favourite songs and I loved watching the movie with him.

Willowkins · 18/09/2025 17:57

I was so sad to hear this. He was a brilliant actor, director and visionary.
My favourite film would be The Sting (another one with Paul Newman).

LlynTegid · 18/09/2025 18:58

Sundance film festival which he was a part of creating has given a lot of film makers a start or an opportunity for which I think is a lasting legacy.

SodOffbacktoaibu · 18/09/2025 22:07

Yes Sundance is a great achievement. I don't remember Barefoot in the park. I've seen it but such a long time ago.

Horse Whisperer was a lovely film too.

I watched The Last Castle the day he died as a little tribute to him, it’s a really good film.

PegDope · 19/09/2025 15:50

The Way We Were. He’s was just divine in it even if Hubbell was an ass 😂

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/09/2025 15:56

So many! I love Butch Cassidy and The Sting. He was very good with Dustin Hoffman in All the President's Men. I saw Jeremiah Johnson umpteen years ago on TV and remember finding it much more engaging than I'd expected (my memory of it is very hazy and I've never seen it since, unfortunately, but I think it's more or less just RR in the wilderness). I only saw The Way We Were a few years ago and it was far better than I'd expected. Would watch again. Have never seen The Great Gatsby. I wonder if there will be tributes scheduled on any of the Freeview channels in the near future.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 19/09/2025 16:11

Tough call, but probably The Way We Were.

I was most indignant last night when BBC2 screened The Great Gatsby and it wasn’t the Redford version.

Sam390 · 19/09/2025 16:20

Indecent Proposal came out when I was 18 and I loved it so much! Probably not the film he'll be remembered for though 😂

janehopper · 19/09/2025 17:36

I love out of Africa and the way we were. I've never seen the horse whisperer but it's on Disney plus so may watch it tonight.

SodOffbacktoaibu · 19/09/2025 18:14

Ohhh the way we were... proper weepy 😭

I totally agree 😀😀 I thought I was missing something when I watched it the other day. I wanted to scream at her to go and get a job😀 I really couldn’t take to her she was thoroughly spoilt. It hadn’t aged well at all. I much prefer The Way We Were. He was beautiful and I don’t think anything will come out about him he seemed gorgeous through and through. I used to think Brad Pitt looked like him in his younger days.

Deadringer · 19/09/2025 18:24

He made so many great movies but I think The Natural is my favourite.

ginasevern · 19/09/2025 18:32

I loved Butch and Sundance and also Three Days of the Condor. Redford's passing makes me feel very old.

PuppyMonkey · 19/09/2025 18:40

I agree about Barefoot and I’m afraid I think The Way We Were gets a bit, well, boring.

Loved him in Three Days of the Condor and of course as the Sundance Kid. Liked him in Up Close and Personal too with Michelle Pfeiffer.

DP and I used to say he was one of those actors like Sean Bean where his character nearly always gets killed off. Grin

SodOffbacktoaibu · 19/09/2025 19:54

I forgot about Three Days of the Condor. That's a cracker.
