Such a disappointment.

Some people walked out halfway through when we went to watch it.

I thought the first half was a bit tedious and it was a bit gory.
The second half I enjoyed though.

I wasn't expecting anything other than Tim Burton quirkiness, and silly bit of fun.

It was entertaining but not as good as the first film.

Jenna Ortega is the Tim Burton girl of the moment - dark hair and sallow skin type.
This next bit is a bit spoilery....
it's obvious when we have a wrong un if her character kisses them!

We (me and DS15) loved it! He hadn't seen Beetlejuice when I first suggested I'd like to see the sequel, so we watched it last weekend (I'd forgotten so much, I'm really glad we did, as it has so much relevance).

We loved the nods to other films (not just the first film) and as soon as I saw the birth scene I thought of that horrific scene in The Fly, which of course starred Geena Davis (yes, my mind does work in that convoluted way). We both loved the Willem Defoe character and DS was telling me all about Monica Bellucci and about Italian black and white gothic horror movies (he studied Italian last year) when I asked about the language spoken in the early wedding scene.

I could go on and on about the bits I loved... I know we'll watch it again!

I liked the black and white wedding scene.

But I wasn't sure about the whole Monica Bellucci storyline.

i am a very big fan of Willem Defoe though so was very excited to see he was in it. And found the 'You are an actor' thing funny.

Ds was very annoyed about the whole PTSD thing with Winona Ryder. Because in the first film she obviously embraced seeing ghosts. (We are quite ghosty in our household).

I loved it!

The PTSD thing seemed to be very much about Beetlejuice, combined with being unable to see a ghost of Jenny Ortega's father.

I LOVED the weeding scene

The music was great.

My criticisms would be it was a bit too gory compared to the original and the Monica belluci / Willem Dafoe storyline didn't add much.

I'm a huge fan of the original and everything macabre and absolutely loved it 🖤 it followed on so well, they kept all the original look and the special effects complimented the 80s ones, loved the plot too. I was entertained every second and came out raving about it.
Just goes to show that you can't please everyone 😂

It’s like the writers got drunk- threw every idea they had in a hat and went “yep that’ll do”

I loved some bits- others I was like urgh because they made Lydia all pathetic.

I went with my 12 yr old and we totally loved it! 12 yr old had recently watched the first movie and thought the 2nd was better.

The surreal dream part after the wedding - I loved that it was the same music as the dream sequence at the end of 'Carrie' y'know before the hand reaches out of the grave. Nice nod that!

Saucery · 21/09/2024 09:38

It had its good points but was too cluttered with “we thought we’d throw this in” moments, which wasted Monica Belluci and Willem Dafoe . Not enough Beetlejuice, but this is also true of the original. It was sweet how he is always there to protect Lydia - I don’t think he ever really wants to marry her, it just fits in with the grossness of his personality to pretend he does. He’s more of a Guardian Demon.
There was too much Charles. Fine to have his character dead from the beginning but animated cartoon of his demise was just stupid.
Soul Train was an excellent musical number but the wedding song possessions didn’t have the impact of the original.

RonnieOmelettes · 26/09/2024 07:29

I loved the use of MacArthur Park. It was so incongruous that it really worked.

Too much going on. The original was a very simple plot and that really worked.

I was also disappointed in Lydia having become a weaker character at first

But really enjoyed the ride overall.

There were some very young children in our screening though, given the gore!

RonnieOmelettes · 26/09/2024 07:29

Oh and I did enjoy Willem Defoe, he was very entertaining

ThatsNotMyTeen · 30/09/2024 19:14

I thought it was ok
