Any one seen it. I really enjoyed it. Despite the fact that it isn't filmed in Leicester. And that Is definitely not Leicester Cathedral! But that would I not annoy you if you are Leicester born and bred. Local
Rumour has always been that he was under the social services building. As the site of the Greyfriars was known. Though it's such a bonkers story you just couldn't make it up.

FFS, my phone is being weird.

But she's a very smart, passionate (possibly obsessed) fruit loop! I remember a moment where she's standing in the car park before they started digging and she said "I can just feel him, right here beneath me" -- and that was exactly where they found his remains. 😳It was all so strange! She was clearly the driving force behind it and had put years of effort and research into getting the dig going.

She also was sure he didn't have any physical deformities, and was very upset to discover he did, in fact.

@ancientgran because it is the nearest consecrated ground. And that is archeological practice. And it was on the exhumation licence.

As long as it's consecrated Christian ground. I think after 500 years, it really doesn't matter.

Apparently the university are unhappy with iOS they are portrayed as it was an equal partnership between the city council, and other parties involved. And they did fund a lot of the research. My mum got fed up with the Richard the 3rd society as she felt they were portraying him as a plaster saint.

I think from what the reviews and this thread described, I'll give it a miss. I went to Leicester in 2016 not long after the re-internment in the cathedral, and hope that you can visit it if you have not done so already.

Not just the university as an institution. At least one individual who worked there at the time feels that his reputation has been damaged to the point that he is considering legal action: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leicestershire-62833429

(And why, when Philippa Langley has long blonde hair, is she portrayed in the film with short dark hair?)

Toddlerteaplease · 11/10/2022 23:15

@Zosime i did wonder of there would be repercussions from the way people were portrayed. Also couldn't understand the casting either.

I enjoyed it, apart from all the talking to the dead King bits. I also thought Sally Whathername's acting was a little over the top at times. I love love love Steve Coogan though.

lannistunut · 12/10/2022 11:50

I am Shock it is coming to legal action. The film company's legal team would have checked out whether it was risky or not - given they were using real names involved in recent events.

I wondered about the choice of actress as well. It I think The real Phillipa Langley was a producer, and she did actually make an appearance. But why on earth did they not use the actual footage of the reburial. The church used us just so wrong! It really grated. And I'm pretty sure that 'O God of Earth and Altar' was not sung. Though I may be wrong.

Was the real Philipa Langley in the film? Was she the woman in church at the funeral?
I thought it was an odd shot if it was not her

Yes the real Philipa briefly on screen in the scene at the funeral when the coffin is being carried down the aisle.

I just watched the documentary on a train journey this afternoon. How fascinating.

I couldn't figure out the significance of the R in the car park, did that suggest someone already knew he was there or was it just co-incidence?

I'll watch the film too if I get a chance. I had a new baby who was tricky when it all happened for real so it kind of passed me by in a bit of a blur.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/10/2022 19:35

Saw it today - highly recommended. Sally Hawkins was excellent as Philippa Langley.
I now have to read PL’s book!

HermioneWeasley · 19/10/2022 19:37

I thought the pacing was odd - there was plenty more story to tell after he’d been discovered that would be interesting and give a picture of him as a leader.

if it was half true, her ex husband is a saint.

I thought the university team were pa to villains and I suspected would be very unhappy with their portrayal!

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 19/10/2022 19:46

I watched this yesterday and have commented to a couple of people that if I was Philippa Langley I would have objected to the portrayal, as frankly, odd.

I'm not surprised the Leicester guy is suing.

It wasn't really film material I thought, more uplifting Sunday BBC
2 parter and it felt that way I thought.

Tree543 · 19/10/2022 19:59

I haven't seen it yet, I watched the documentary with Simon Farnaby and found that fascinating. I remember as well the documentary where they examined his body and they discovered he had scoliosis.

I spent most of my childhood in Leicester and my dad worked for Leicester Social Services and parked in that car park.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 15/11/2022 14:31

Off to see this solo this afternoon (perks of SE, you get to bunk off to the cinema now and again Grin ) so excited, I have a diploma in the History of the British Monarchy so Richard III and his reign absolutely fascinate me

Jonaskahnwaldplease · 15/11/2022 14:49

Oh it has the lovely Harry Lloyd in it, I'll definitely be watching 😍

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 16/11/2022 20:21

So I watched this yesterday and loved it!

I love how they portrayed a woman with ME as well it’s a v under represented condition and v misunderstood

I thought her husband was a nasty belittling prick though

RUNPMTS · 06/01/2023 16:27

Is this OK for an 11 year old to watch? Any particularly bad language?

Toddlerteaplease · 06/01/2023 17:23

Yep it's pretty tame.
