Has anyone else seen this film?

I went to the cinema to see it with my 17yr old and it is still going around in my head. It was funny, sad and gave me a lot to think about.

The basic story is a woman gets to see the different lives she could have lived by making different decisions.

If you saw it do you enjoy it?

I loved it, it's utterly bonkers.

Nitgel · 08/10/2022 23:25

Turned it off

UnfinishedUsernam · 21/10/2022 23:13

My 13 year ds and 16 year old dd wanted to watch it so we sat down to watch it tonight. They lost interest at the dildo fight scene which was lucky as the butt plug scene was yet to ahem come. 😂

Rollergirl11 · 22/10/2022 22:40

Watched it tonight. Laughed out loud at hot dog fingers and the rock with googly eyes was awesome. Have never ever seen anything like it. So much effort gone in with the sheer amount of different scenes.

Whistlesandbell · 25/10/2022 19:03

It wasn’t for me, I think it was one of the craziest films I’ve seen.

DaisyWaldron · 28/01/2023 21:09

I loved it. I thought it was great to see a protagonist who was a complex middle-aged woman and the film itself reminded me of the weird indie films of the nineties and early noughties.

I agree with Peter Bradshaw in the Guardian - ‘nothing nowhere over a long period of time’.
A very long period of time.

Thisisformathilda · 11/03/2023 23:30

I managed the first 30 mins and turned it off. I guess it got better?

Hiddendoor · 12/03/2023 00:35

I loved it. Utterly bonkers. Sweet. Violent with unexpected implements. Racacoonie!

Loved it.

boatyardblues · 12/03/2023 08:05

It looks set to bag a load of Oscars, though I read an article in the Times where the two film critics giving their predictions were clearly miffed. The format of the article was will win/should win and Everywhere was in the Will Win all the way. Some of the should wins sounded worthy but unappealing.

Fuckitydoodah · 12/03/2023 08:10

I hated it. DH loved it. Definitely a marmite kind of film.

This film is included with Amazon Prime right now. I think I'll rewatch over the weekend.

Im planning to watch on Amazon Prime tonight. It's odd because it's also on at our local cinema on limited screenings! I have no idea if I'll like it or not, going by these reviews 😁

boatyardblues · 12/03/2023 09:32

It’s definitely a singular experience Abracadabra. It has a lot of heart and, when you look at the harried woman at the centre, is well observed on the realities of middle life when you are squeezed between generations and your work. My 17 year old liked it as much as me and DH. We all found it engaging and liked that the narrative took unexpected turns. My in laws didn’t like it as much but admired its inventiveness. It’s worth it just for the piano playing scene in one of the parallel worlds. You’ll know when you see it. 😄

I love Michelle Yeoh and enjoy a bit of quirk. I can understand the appeal for those in the film-making industry - interesting effects and cinematography plus a script where actors get to be characters with many variations. But it bored me to tears. It feels very 'emperor's new clothes' to me. Everyone raving about it but not much there for the viewer. Shame - as I was really minded to enjoy it.

lljkk · 12/03/2023 18:25

I enjoyed it. I'm mostly fussy & easily lose interest, so me enjoying it is an achievement. That said, it wasn't amazeballs. Merely quite good.

Teen DS thought the rocks scenes were pure genius.

Meredusoleil · 12/03/2023 21:39

My 14 yo dd really wants to see this. Would it be suitable for her (I think it may be a certificate 15) and what about my 11 yo dd2?

Depends whether you want your 14 and 11 year old to be exposed to a dildo fight or have to explain butt plugs… 🤔 It’s a 15 certificate for a reason. FYI the IMDB site has a parental section on their desktop version which gives more info about more adult content/themes to help you decide.

Arrrrrrragghhh · 12/03/2023 22:09

I saw it on Prime randomly last month and loved it. Told DH he had to watch it and he really didn’t get it from start to finish ( the spoken Chinese at the beginning worried him and he didn’t engage from then on).
My friend who has a masters in film hated it too.
I liked the costumes especially the white room// end of the world.

the80sweregreat · 13/03/2023 06:01

It's won everything at the Oscars, so someone must have loved it! ( I didn't )

DorisParchment · 13/03/2023 06:05

I thought it was the biggest pile of tosh I’d ever seen apart from Jodorowsky’s Holy Mountain.

SequinsandStilettos · 13/03/2023 06:36

I loved the trailer but by and large hated the film.
It has swept up at the Oscars but I wasn't keen.
I can just about manage if I pretend the whole film is about the menopause! Grin

I was just coming on to say "emperors new clothes" and you beat me to it.

joan12 · 13/03/2023 22:06

I thought it was phenomenal. That moment in life where everything just cracks apart under the pressure and it all spills out.

CampervanKween · 13/03/2023 22:09

I really wanted to love it. Started watching it a few weeks ago before all the publicity as it looked quirky and interesting. I got bored half way through I'm afraid. Stopped watching and cba to finish it.

the80sweregreat · 13/03/2023 22:42

Jamie Lee Curtis was good as were the two main leads, but I grew bored, then confused by it and finally gave up. I assumed the ending was about acceptance , but I had lost the will to live by then. Dh enjoyed it more than I did , but then I'm not good with long films and I couldn't follow the plot that well.
(I'm not a big film buff though , would rather read a book.)
