'Ordinary people' movies where nothing much happens?

Most of my favourite movies are the slow, 'study of everyday life' type, about very ordinary people, where not a lot happens but the nothing-muchness is beautiful.

For example:

Paterson (Jim Jarmusch),
Tokyo Story,
Sideways,
Land Ho
Another Year (Mike Leigh)...

What other films of this type can you think of?

Hunting for things to add to the list that I haven't seen...

The Dig

Absolutely fabulous film, I could watch it every day! The clothes and the people and the scenery, it’s all just gorgeous.

Stuff happens alright but it’s very calming and totally natural, like real life. Don’t know if it is what you are looking for but I absolutely LOVED it. It’s my favourite film of the last few years.

Also, a man called Ove

Totally different feeling but good also.

Lucky. It is an amazing beautiful film where absolutely nothing happens but it is stunning!

Just returning to add one of my favourites for those of you that say you also love this genre:

.

Mongolian, not quite a documentary but none of the 'actors' are actors. Stunning cinematography, lovely storyline, adorable kiddos.

Amazing thread! This is the sort of book I love too

The Before trilogy with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Before Midnight) Directed by Richard Linklater.. Absolutely brilliant.

@ThreeFeetTall

Before Sunrise Trilogy
I was going to say this, although I found the last one depressing!

Also A Room with a View ❤.

An oldie Remains of the Day

Not a movie but a box set on Amazon Prime - This is Us- follows the lives of a family, switching from past to present, but so easy to watch and there’s 5 seasons, I love it.

wincarwoo · 15/12/2021 22:26

Anything directed by Eric Rohmer

Avarua · 15/12/2021 22:28

And Boyhood. Just their lives on screen.
oohyoudevilyou · 15/12/2021 22:33

One Day starring Anne Hathaway

MeOnSea · 15/12/2021 22:35

Oh I love this type of film, all about the detail! May I add Wong Kar-Wei’s In the mood for love?

Changecountetextraordinaire · 15/12/2021 22:36

Lost in Translation, definitely.
Babette's Feast
Truly Madly Deeply
Gregory's Girl
Moonstruck

Ormally · 15/12/2021 22:40

An animation, but Belleville Rendezvous. It always hooks me straight in.

JoyOrbison · 15/12/2021 22:41

I can recommend The Two Pope's. There is a part looking back which is about people being killed in a war, but otherwise the majority of the film comtemplates no longer hearing God. Even dh was engrossed in it.

todaysdilemma · 15/12/2021 22:46

You'll like the Mumblecore genre then.

Frances Ha
Drinking Buddies
Celeste and Jesse Forever
Mistress America
Squid and the Whale
While we're young

todaysdilemma · 15/12/2021 22:49

Take this Waltz too (Seth roger/Michelle williams)

An oldie Remains of the Day
Just what I was coming in to say!

It's my favourite film. The acting is superb and it's such a gentle (slightly sad) film.
