I saw it yesterday. I really enjoyed it but it is quite dark and surreal in places.

I saw it yesterday and I would give it five stars. It's about a a woman clearly having a breakdown. This woman happens to be Diana Spencer. It covers three days, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Parts of the film are very surreal, even more so with the music score - which is discordant in parts but complementary to the inner turmoil of Diana's mind. All the actors are good but Kirsten Stewart is exceptional in her portrayal, what an amazing actor she is.

This is a good review.

I thought it was dire.

I didn’t really enjoy it. Kristen Stewart is really good in her portrayal but the surreal bits really annoyed me. When Anne Boleyn turned up I’m afraid I laughed out loud

Me too. The whole thing was a farce. As a show about a woman going through a mental breakdown, then it wasn't too bad and the music complimented that, but to make it about a real life person, it was just ridiculous. No one knew what she was thinking, so to completely make something up about her innermost thoughts and turmoil is wrong.

Also, the acting itself was very good, but again as a representation of Princess Diana, it was comical.

The whole thing is just so out of order. I'm annoyed with myself that I went to see it - had I realised the story, then I wouldn't have gone.

Kristen Stewart's performance was good - she really nailed not only the aristocratic English accent but also the cadences of Diana's voice.
But I thought the script was terrible

I thought she seemed like she was taking the piss out of Diana's accent and affectations!

I saw it yesterday but was interested to see what others thought - it was a bit bonkers really wasn't it?

At the same time, I did enjoy it though! 😆

I would have enjoyed it as a fictional insight into someone's mental health decline, however given it was based on a real person and therefore, whilst still fiction, implied some factual authority, that made it ridiculous.

Again, as a fictional character, KS's acting was great but as a representation of Princess Diana, she was ludicrous!

I was considering it but won't bother now!
I've only just really got into going to the cinema so wanted something to watch this week when nothing much appeals.

Oh jeez thats 90 minutes of my life I'll never get back. Only redeeming point is I have cineworld membership so didn't specifically pay anything for it.

That's it, isn't it @ISpyCobraKai I'm itching to go to the cinema and see some good stuff but a lot of it out there just doesn't appeal.

It doesn't help that the Odeon website seems to want to list all the films planned for the next few months irrespective of whether they're actually on that day, you have to scroll all the way down. Do they even want us to go to the cinema?

Not only that but I've read of loads of classics released in the last year but which many of us didn't want to risk Covid to see - now I've got both jabs and can go on a matinee when it's less full, why can't they reissue these as a kind of catch-up? Stuff like Tenet, Wonder Woman 1984 and a good many others I've forgotten about. But theatres seem to be doing nothing to cultivate any interest, we're stuck with crap like that Jungle adventure with The Rock which was on forever.

I've booked to see Cry Macho on Monday, it looks good, and obvs Clint Eastwood.
Also the cinema I go to is showing Oldboy on the 24th so looking forward to that, brilliant film and I've never seen it in the cinema.
The remake of Westside Story and House of Gucci are next month.
I choose later showings on unpopular days, not only so that they are quiet, but I can use my discount card.
I actually had the screen to myself for Last night in Soho!

NewspaperTaxis · 11/11/2021 22:44

Oh, I might see Last Night... but not sure it's on anymore. Showings of films at my local are a bit spotty, The French Dispatch has come and gone, okay, not too bothered about that but it seemed to be on for only a week.
You've listed some good films to see... of course, by definition what we're trying to do is not the big movie experience with a crowd, but still.... It's just nice to have a different experience.

I saw The Outsiders last Sunday, the long version with an intro by Francis Ford Coppola, it was brilliant, I'd forgotten so much since I first saw it on a crappy TV in the 90's!

On the Odeon website there's a button you can click to only show films that are current. I discovered it after being really frustrated!

I go to Showcase, they have a button to show only the 'events', which includes showings of older films.
It's my neatest that isn't shit, and also has all reclining seats!
There's actually an independent literally at the end of my street, 30 seconds walk as opposed to 40 minutes drive, but it's still not reopened since Covid.

I liked the costumes but found the film a little odd. Agree with the pearl comments.

Thought it was tedious drivel. KS was at times uncannily like how I remember Diana. But it was so odd and surreal at times that it was almost comical. Anne Boleyn? Wtaf?

Doubt the film will scote many brownie points with the RFGrin

It was very bonkers. I quite enjoyed it but it was nonsense. The anne Boleyn appearances were funny ( the audience laughed in my cinema) but I’m not sure it was meant to be funny also the dresser Maggie being “in love” with Diana seemed unnecessary and a bit shoe horned in. I liked all the dresses though and I quite like Kirsty Diana impression.
Overall verdict entertaining but silly.
