Anyone seen it yet?

OP posts:
Appliancedesparation · 17/11/2021 13:17

Didn't enjoy it, found it boring and a bit silly.

bendmeoverbackwards · 17/11/2021 18:05

I didn’t like it either. And the music was SO annoying, I just wanted it to stop. The pearls in the soup freaked me out a bit.

Anyone know how true it was? The scene on the beach with Maggie - really??

JacquelineCarlyle · 17/11/2021 18:20

I assumed the whole thing was complete fiction given the absurdity of the plot (but no idea!)

Nitgel · 18/11/2021 21:42

Loved this so stunning. Worth seeing on Big screen.

LuluBlakey1 · 20/11/2021 23:53

@Tempnamelady

Just got back from watching it, utter shite. That is all.
Totally agree.
NewspaperTaxis · 23/11/2021 12:42

Thanks @malovitt for that tip - I now use the same button on the Odeon site that lets you see only the current films on, it's hard to spot however, it's like one of those buttons you get to stop cookies on websites.

For all that, my local Odeon is a bit rubbish. I was up for seeing Clint's new film but it appeared to be showing one week only. Other films will be showing forever, however.

randomrandomium · 26/11/2021 17:11

I thought it was tedious rubbish and left half way through. Can't understand the positive comments about Kristen Stewart because I thought her acting was terrible. The corgis getting out of their own car made me laugh though!

JacquelineCarlyle · 26/11/2021 20:50

I agree @randomrandomium

ISpyCobraKai · 27/11/2021 02:36

@NewspaperTaxis
I've seen Cry Macho, Clint's film.
It was entertaining enough, and quite sweet but more for a Sunday afternoon at home when there's nothing else on.
It's really not worth going to the cinema for At All.

NewspaperTaxis · 28/11/2021 21:23

I was thinking of taking my elderly Dad to see this but a) Wheelchair access is bad at the Odeon, they make them sit bang at the front of the screen, I think that's awful and b) I do tend to take him to films like this, The Old Man with the Gun with Robert Redford being one, and they're a bit boring, he tends to fall asleep.

Sometimes I whimsically think how I should have taken him to see Wolf of Wall Street when it came out... that's a blast.

ISpyCobraKai · 29/11/2021 15:10

I loved WOWS!
Cry Macho was ok, I had the screen to myself which I love but its definitely not a rush to the cinema film, unless you're a big CE fan.
I've nothing booked this week, should check what's on that I fancy seeing.
The not great reviews of House of Gucci have put me off a bit, especially as it's long.

PlasticineMeg · 10/04/2022 22:05

Saw this tonight. Quite honestly I think it made Diana look like the drama llama attention seeker the RF seemed to imply she was. Weird, ridiculous film. But KS did a good job, got Diana’s affectations down to a T

MissBattleaxe · 18/04/2022 19:29

I just saw this on Amazon Prime and I'm still baffled by what I've just seen. KS is brilliant if a little whispery, but the overall plot is so bonkers I don't know how it ever got made.

PlasticineMeg · 18/04/2022 19:34

@MissBattleaxe yes it was like a weird dream I thought!

Multicolouredsequins · 18/04/2022 19:35

I think it's one of the worst films I've ever seen. Watched it with my daughter and we were in stitches the moment Kirsten started her Princess Di Impression. It was like a bad channel 5 American movie, subtle as a brick, dreadful acting, dreadful script. The discordant jazz music is the only thing that stops it being a daytime channel 5 movie imo. Critics loved it though, the mind boggles. Worth watching for a laugh/cringe.

MissBattleaxe · 19/04/2022 17:08

I found it quite uncomfortable to watch. The pearl eating, the "leave me, I wish to masturbate", the wire cutters and breaking into her old home... It's like someone took acid and had a dream about Princess Diana.

TheMadGardener · 19/04/2022 22:16

It's absolutely dreadful! Yes, Diana had her problems but if she'd really been as batshit as this film makes out (talking to Anne Boleyn, hallucinating imaginary people everywhere, running off to deserted houses on a December night wearing a designer evening dress) she would have been quietly sent off for a stay in a clinic somewhere and certainly not allowed unlimited access to her sons!

I'm actually quite shocked they were allowed to make something so defamatory.

KS's acting is not good at all, can't imagine what the critics liked about it. Unless American audiences like to imagine this stuff is what actually happens within palace walls. I mean, I'm sure a lot of stuff does happen but not THIS!!

PlasticineMeg · 19/04/2022 22:19

Also the other members of the RF were painted as some sort of pantomime villain. I felt like booing in certain parts. But if I had to put up with a relative who behaved like that I’d be rolling my eyes at her too

MissBattleaxe · 23/04/2022 10:03

I agree with @PlasticineMeg. The Royals were portrayed as one dimensional stuck up bores but Diana was incredibly annoying and rude- late for everything, jumping into the pheasant shooting, missing meals, not mingling with anyone. There was nobody likeable in the film. Maybe the chef. He seemed OK.

Cleebope2 · 23/04/2022 20:08

Watched it on Disney or Prime maybe last week. I thought it was excellent and was hypnotised by KS. Was expecting to hate it but surprised. Maybe not a great cinema experience though. Better for home viewing so you can pause occasionally.

Exactly!

The only thing they got right were the clothes and her hair, they always get them really wrong!

Anne Boleyn was ...odd.

The bit about taking the boys out of the shoot was utter nonsense, she'd been brought up around the hunt/ pheasant shooting, to imply anything different was utter nonsense.

Very glad I didn't see it at the cinema, the music was so jarring, which I get was deliberate but ouch!

TweetingFromTheRoof · 10/05/2022 20:15

I really loved it. Kristen Stewart did a really evocative portrayal of Diana.

I wasn't keen on the Anne Boleyn stuff or the puking scenes but the soundtrack, Stewart acting and the filmography were brilliant. I have just come out of an experience where I felt trapped (work) working with people with very traditional and rigid views, where everyone was out to get one over everyone else, unless they were any ally. I felt very trapped there so watching this was cathartic I know that must sound ridiculous😂

The eeriest aspect of the movie is that it actually evoked the way Diana came across in the media during the 2 years or so before she died. I was a foreign student in England at the time and had only known about Diana for a couple of years. I cried my eyes out when she died but even before she died she just seemed very vulnerable and I took notice when I normally find anything related to celebrity culture dead boring.

The movie and especially Stewart just brought that feeling back, very odd, I've never felt that way about any celebrity. The film made me shed a couple of tears, I just found it sad. And so fucking horrible how the RF treated her when she was battling an Eating Disorder. Attitudes to mental health were completely monstrous back then. I know some older people 70+ who still have that horrible attitude, wanting to appear all classy and well dressed with smart antique homes but a nasty, unkind and harsh attitude.

I know I must sound a deranged with this post, I'm quite normal usually 😉. Just had enormous stress and fucking detest cold unkind people, like the royal family were portrayed.

TweetingFromTheRoof · 10/05/2022 20:18

I'm no Diana fan but how would you feel if your husband openly had a mistress and him and his family treated you with utter contempt while expecting you to play your role. Bloody hell.

briancormorant · 24/05/2022 18:35

Oh pleese let the poor womans soul rest. It's bad enough the DailyFail using her as an ATM!

Elle009 · 24/05/2022 19:20

Literally the worst film I’ve ever seen. Why did she whisper the entire way through
