I've only seen the trailers but you could try the imdb parental guide.

I think your name is the best ever mn name ... pmsl
I used to call my ex boss a Pillock of the Community (not to his face obviously! -LOL )

Anyhoo, yes, I was planning to take DD, not realising it was a pg rather than a G (or U in UK) ... and then I went onto the cinema website and had a panic.
It has a running time of 111 minutes so it could be a bit long ... sigh.

thank you
was actually Califrau that named me!

ds1 was only 4 this week, and has happily sat through Cars, Happy Feet, Flushed Away, Surfs Up, and a few others I can't remember!

ghosty · 28/09/2007 00:25

Right cali, will take her then ...
thanks guys

Yeah it was good, definitely NOT PG though - it should be a G IMO (and I am really strict about what my kids see - DS hasn't seen any of the Spiderman movies for example and he is 8 in November)
I can't think why it is a PG

It's funny and I liked the story ... however it still doesn't come up to the funny standards of Toy Story and Finding Nemo story lines and scripts IMHO but deffo FANTASTIC graphics (the water in the sewer scene and the tiny details like the individual hairs etc of the rats etc etc v. v. good)

hi ghosty, glad u enjoyed it! dd (3.8) didnt! we had to leave halfway cos she didnt like all the chasing action! sigh

Clayhead · 30/09/2007 20:44

Saw this today with ds (4) and dd (5) and we all loved it.

sibble · 30/09/2007 20:51

oooh, missed this thread ghosty, took boys not looking at length of film. even ds2 - aka psycho child sat through it except teh last 10 mins. I was so proud of him as another 3 year old (guessing age) was running psychotically around the cinema from half way through. Very suprised but proud mother emotion.

Also can't see why it's a PG we loved it. DS1 saw Surf's Up last week, am dragging him back tomorrow to see it again, why else do you have children if it's not to use them to see cartoon movies

LucyJones · 13/10/2007 09:01

bumping for TrinityRhino

TrinityRhino · 13/10/2007 09:06

thanks lucy

Marina · 15/10/2007 14:42

Another four year old who didn't like a lot of the chase/"peril" action in this film
She says now she enjoyed it but in the cinema she was not very impressed.
The rest of us loved it but I'd think twice about really considering this a U in the UK, I think it should have been a PG.
People with children under five, beware...

Marina · 15/10/2007 14:44

Scene with the dead trapped rats displayed in the poison shop window? I thought that rated a PG myself

bossykate · 15/10/2007 14:47

i thought it was very poor. i think brad bird is benefitting from "the emperor's new clothes". it was badly paced, with many longueurs, lacked narrative tension, was pitched uneasily above children's heads yet too simplistic for adults. i thought the editorial discipline and rigour was sadly lacking - it was far, far too long! my two said they enjoyed it - despite being obviously bored (as was i) for much of it.

when i compare it to, e.g., shrek, toy story or monsters inc. it comes way, way behind.

i wouldn't recommend it - save your money!

bossykate · 15/10/2007 14:50

agree the scene with the dead rats in the window was a pg. and typical of the lack of narrative focus in the film - so what is it? a comedy satirising american eating habits? a "when hitler stole pink rabbit" holocaust film? a romantic comedy? a bildungsroman? sadly, none of the above was achieved with any elan.

Marina · 15/10/2007 14:55

I wonder if there is any connection between your view of the film's flaws bk, and the fact that it was originally devised and part directed by Jan Pinkava, and only handed over part-way through to Brad Bird?
I love the colouring and the evocations of Paris, but was less happy about the cutesy anthropomorphising of the rats.
I did like the scene when the old lady's ceiling fell in and she discovered her roof cavity was packed out with rats though

MascaraOHara · 15/10/2007 14:56

I saw it on Sat with dd (5). We both loved it and dd literally lol'd all the way through.

bossykate · 15/10/2007 17:41

well i can't argue with the quality of the animation - it was outstanding! but outstanding animation is not enough on its own to make a good film.

marina, i didn't know that but it could explain the "designed by committee" feel which wafted through the production...

DarthVader · 19/10/2007 09:37

oh dear, I'm going with dd this afternoon and am dreading it, not a big fan of animated films myself so I really hope dd loves it!

HUNXXXX · 19/10/2007 09:39

pirategirl · 19/10/2007 09:41

I thought it was very disapointing stuff from pixar once again. I think the last decent thing thye did was Nemo. Shrek 3 was crap imo, and I was really hoping Ratatouille would be funny, but its not.

binkleandflip · 19/10/2007 09:42

lol, sorry but your high-brow debating of this jumped up cartoon is really amusing me You're wasted on mumsnet, you really are, you should be in politics
