Anyone seen yet and happy to share spoilers? Can’t go til the weekend!

OP posts:

Leia's was buried with Luke's, yes. But then she had a yellow one in her hand after that.

TuppenceDarling · 20/12/2019 16:35

Oh apologies, yes I see!

IamMoana · 20/12/2019 17:27

Saw it today and absolutely loved it! So many open mouth moments. Heart in mouth when I thought Chewie was a gonner.

Cried at 3PO being wiped, Leias death, Leia giving herself to save Ben, Ben giving himself to save Rey. Llando. The ending. God, I cried throughout on reflection.

And the Porgs/Ewoks popping up kept the 8 year old happy. Agree I'd have liked to have seen more of Endor, so reminds me of Leia.

I can't help but see Hux as the chap from peter rabbit now which guts me!

Overall, I loved it. I am a tad over invested as a huge fan of the whole saga from episode 1 all the way though. Where will they go with if now though? With no empire/order/sith lord. And all the original cast force ghosts now. Be interesting to see!

SouthWestmom · 20/12/2019 19:00

Loved it. Hated The Last Jedi and saw this begrudgingly but I was surprised at how much better it was - reminded me of the first films.
Thought Leia reaches him to stop him killing Ray, so he doesn't do the dark sides work.
Loved sexy old Han turning up for a cameo.

Lweji · 20/12/2019 19:44

Where will they go with if now though?

Do you mean Disney or people in a galaxy far far away?

There may be an Obi Wan movie/series?

Who knows for the rest? A new Republic? Each planet for itself?

SouthWestmom · 20/12/2019 20:09

I suspect Lando and they young female character will have some kind of spin off

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 20/12/2019 20:16

I loved every second, but I can't be objective. Star Wars was the first film I ever saw, I was 5 and went with my dad and remember queuing up for it....and never having seen anything like it....

It was like a Star Wars panto though.

Loved the cameos, loved "I'm the spy!", Ben's shrug when he was about to fight the knights of ren.

I didn't think Rey and Ben should have kissed. I thought it was pointless.

Also given the theme was "never be afraid of who you are" I think she should have said Rey Palpatine at the end. Skywalker was a cop out.

RJnomore1 · 20/12/2019 20:17

But Leia stopping him killing Rey played into the dark sides plans

SouthWestmom · 20/12/2019 20:27

But in a Draco/Severus way I think it saved Ren and let him be Ben

RozTheSchnoz · 20/12/2019 20:37

A question please: DS1 (6) and DS2 (4) have seen and loved the first 8, thanks to DH... is there anything I should worry about them seeing in number 9? Part of me feels DH should watch it first?

Isitme13 · 20/12/2019 20:43

Agree it was a cop out not owning being a Palestine at the end. She could have said Rey Skywalker Palpatine/Rey Palpatine Skywalker.

I liked it overall, it was always going to have all the nods to yesteryear and farewells to all, but it managed to have enough surprises in to sustain it too. I thought they could have held onto Chewie‘a shock death a bit longer, and I didn’t really feel the Hux shocker was authentic - it seemed rather a panto moment if anything.

RJnomore1 · 20/12/2019 20:49

“I’m the spy!” Must be the most pointless line in cinema history, I proper guffawed at that 😁

ChristmassySpice · 20/12/2019 20:54

Saw it yesterday. Felt emotional all the way through. Guessed a few of the plot lines. Others came as a surprise. I'm hoping it's been left sort of open.

HanSolo · 20/12/2019 21:11

roztheshnoz mega spoiler!!!!!

When Palpatine dies, that bit is pretty grim; he kind of melts, a la the nazi in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
So depends how squeamish they are really.

SouthWestmom · 20/12/2019 21:13

Loved the I'm the spy moment! A woman in the theatre gasped out loud and everyone laughed

SouthWestmom · 20/12/2019 21:14

Are a 6 and 4 year old going to follow it? That's the only thing I'd worry about , nothing really gruesome or sexy or swearing, just keeping them quiet.

Lweji · 20/12/2019 21:41

I thought that the Skywalker surname at the end was "I can be who I want". She is an adopted Skywalker. She certainly feels like the daughter that Luke and Leia could never have had. Wink The person that she is grew because of them.

I agree with the kiss. Why?
I expected Ben's reaching out with his hand, Rey taking it, then him dying. It would have been much more moving and in keeping with the story.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 20/12/2019 21:49

I laughed out loud at "I'm the spy"! Like I said, pure panto

The pace was too fast, there were too many subplots.

Still loved it.

Isitme13 · 20/12/2019 21:51

I wouldn’t take my 7 year old - he’d be scared in parts, and wouldn’t necessarily follow the plot that well (he knows the storyline, but would feel compelled to discuss it all as it was happening!) but that said, one of his friends was at the same screening as me, and seemed unscathed afterwards!

I agree the death of Palpatine is a bit much for younger children, and the overall emotional rollercoaster feels too much for small children to me too (but then they probably wouldn’t be as invested in all the older characters as I was, so maybe wouldn’t feel it as much?)

HanSolo · 20/12/2019 21:55

I want to know what Lando meant when he answered Janna's statement about not knowing where she is from with "let's go and find out" Confused what was that about?

Isitme13 · 20/12/2019 21:59

Presumably that’s going to be the next spin off film?

eavers · 20/12/2019 22:07

I thought that was an odd line from Lando as well, but yes it might be a possible spin off.

My 8 year old enjoyed it but he has watched all the other films many times.

FlaviaAlbia · 20/12/2019 22:08

Let's have a spin off series HanSolo Grin

Lots of pretty creepy scenes with Palpatine, those floating Snoke clones and the opaque white dead eyes and withered skin. I would have thought it would be a bit much for young children but there was a family with a toddler in the mostly empty screening we went to and she got bored and ran around but didn't seem to be scared at all.

Dozer · 20/12/2019 22:44

Enjoyed!

They nicked a fair few things from Harry Potter: sucking the life from people; the baddy’s lightening (spell equivalent) being rebounded onto him; the hero dying then returning.

And Romeo and Juliet with the Ben/Rey scene.

Crummy, small part for Kelly Marie Tran.

BrainFart · 21/12/2019 00:58

The weirdest film I have seen in ages.

The first 90 mins are appalling - load of breathless exposition, jerky editing, and some truly diabolical acting - right up there with the worst dreck in the prequels ("I hate sand", trade disagreements et al...), and if it were a standalone movie I had no investment in I would have walked out.

However, the last 45 minutes provide perhaps the most amazing turnaround in cinematic history. I honestly cannot think of a film which started so, so poorly, which delighted me so much at the end.
