Couldn’t see a thread already - saw it Wednesday. Thought it was good fun, a few holes in the story but it didn’t spoil it. DH annoyed me as he fell asleep (snoring in the cinema Angry) and then insisted on us telling him the plot he’d missed. DS16 obliged as he very rarely comes with us and didn’t know this is what DH does.

Absolutely hated Daniel Craig’s accent - just why?????

Interesting that you saw it with your 16 year old, as I was just pondering a whole family outing and was wondering if a 15 year old might be able to enjoy it. Sounds like it could be okay. My husband will probably fall asleep too...

Disfordarkchocolate · 29/11/2019 13:05

I really like the look of this. What accents does Daniel Craig have?

OneHanded · 29/11/2019 13:06

Did one truly go to the cinema if they didn’t miss a bit either by falling asleep or pegging it for a wee?! Grin

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/11/2019 13:18

Deep, deep south. I saw this a few weeks ago at the London Film Festival. Loved it. Was surprised to see huge Leicester Square Odeon packed for Friday morning showing, including huge numbers of young women. Son explained that juvenile lead Chris Evans is A lister because of Captain America films. Aah.

NotSorry · 29/11/2019 13:26

@pippistrelle

It was me, DH, DD21 and DS16

We all really enjoyed it (luckily DH was on the other side of DD and DS otherwise he'd have got an elbow when the snoring started)

as I said a few plot holes, but it didn't really matter, it was good fun and a few laughs along the way

Only negative, couldn't see the point of Daniel Craig's accent and it grated on me the whole film

@OneHanded

yeah, you're not wrong, I think it was the snoring that wound me up the most and then we all have to give him the plot afterwards - he could have stayed home Grin

I would like to see this. Was surprised that it got such good reviews. Assumed it would be terrible.

PrivateSpidey · 29/11/2019 13:32

I absolutely loved it! Drawn in by the Chris Evans in knitwear trailers, stayed for the brilliant cast, storyline and twist upon twist!

Plot holes etc don't really bother me, generally speaking - don't mind suspending disbelief a bit for something this good.

The soundtrack was great too.

Daniel's accent was a bit distracting at first, I wasn't really sure what the point of it was, other than to differentiate between him and the preppy Massachusetts family?

PrivateSpidey · 29/11/2019 13:34

Chris Evans is 38 btw!!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/11/2019 13:37

That's very young to me!

PrivateSpidey · 29/11/2019 13:38

Oops posted too soon. I'd just been looking up all their ages and I'd thought he was younger than that.

Jamie Lee Curtis looks great in it too, rocking the trouser suits.

It's really just a good looking film all round.

PrivateSpidey · 29/11/2019 13:40

Gasp0de Grin

I had just thought he was younger. Probably because of the Marvel thing, as you say.

5LeafClover · 30/11/2019 09:08

Saw this last night with 2 teens (mainly because the reviews were so good). We all really enjoyed it...the whole film was a lot fresher than any of us has expected, still a who dunnit but not cheesy at all, with some good, funny moments. And yes to DC accent, a bit distracting but ok.

Egghead68 · 01/12/2019 06:52

I thought it was OK but a bit boring as there weren’t enough plot twists / red herrings. I agree that DC’s accent was awful! A pretty standard whodunnit with a good cast. I was surprised at the 5 reviews - I’d give it 3.

funmummy48 · 01/12/2019 06:56

I saw it last week at a pre-view and loved it. Daniel Craig’s accent took me by surprise but once I’d decided not to fight it and just accept it, it was fine. I loved the twists and turns in the plot and the laugh out loud, comedy moments.

rookiemere · 01/12/2019 20:27

I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected and wished I'd brought DS 13 along - he does enjoy a good Poirot. Whilst Daniel Craigs accent was a bit grating, it was so nice to see himself obviously enjoying the part as opposed to his usual slapped arse hate this although they're paying me £70 squillion per movie Bond.

missyB1 · 01/12/2019 20:29

Dh and I are looking forward to seeing this.

BeardedMum · 01/12/2019 22:52

I absolutely loved this film. Thought all the actors were brilliant and love seeing a film which is confident enough to take the time to build the story.

pippistrelle · 03/12/2019 14:18

It was fun, and I loved the knitwear!

RubbishRubbishRubbish · 04/12/2019 22:37

I saw it last night.. Was really disappointed in it.. Even DC could not save it for me.

AndAnotherNameChanger · 04/12/2019 22:44

Interesting to see what people think of it as i've been very surprised by the apparently good reviews it's been getting.
I'm a big fan of Toni Collette but Daniel Craig's a terrible actor and his accent is like fingernails on a blackboard in the trailer. There's no way without I could sit through a full length film of that without giving myself a blood pressure problem.

choirmumoftwo · 04/12/2019 23:06

Saw it with DH on Monday and we both really enjoyed it. Thought it was very original and entertaining.

daisychain01 · 08/12/2019 07:35

Saw it on Friday and found it very entertaining.

I didn't think the plot was too bad. Having taken my DM to see Agatha Christie's Mouse Trap in October, I realised how overrated and formulaic AC was. Crap plot and 'wooden' characters, utter tosh.

By comparison Knives Out was a lot better as a Who Dunnit, and very strong comedic performances by Jamie Lee-Curtis and Toni Collette. In fact in general, I thought the actresses far out-performed the actors.

Did anyone else think it had an air of Quentin Tarantino about it. Lots of quirky camera angles and the rather 'novel' trait of Marta Cabrera? I kept having to look away! Should they have had a health warning....

PrivateSpidey · 08/12/2019 09:40

I thought they were all excellent really, but yes Toni Collette and JLC were standouts, no doubt.

I loved it, I've seen it twice now as I went with DH and then with my mum. It was really enjoyable second time around as well - especially for spotting clues laid early on in the film.

daisychain01 · 08/12/2019 12:08

Snap! @PrivateSpidey I took my DM to see it on Friday and DH and I are going next Tuesday Smile . I'm glad you said it was still entertaining second time round.

I'm rather intrigued by the posters saying there were holes in the plot. Maybe I was unobservant that day but I didn't pick up anything that didn't stack up.

There was so much detail to take in, it is good to have a second chance to pick up some of the extra clues.
