Just seen this and thought it was fab.

Had been a bit put off by some reviews saying it was an overlong snooze fest with no real story line but didn't think that at all. Great acting from Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio.

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bustle.com/p/what-does-sharon-tates-family-think-of-once-upon-a-time-in-hollywood-her-sister-has-spoken-out-18226104/amp

This is interesting because I did wonder how the families would feel. Personally I dislike the twist.

origamiunicorn · 25/08/2019 08:38

Just thought Brad Pitt was incredible. I don't think I have seen him act so well.

Brad Pitt is a terribly underrated actor. Fight Club, Burn After Reading, Inglorious Basterds... He's fantastic in all.

rookiemere · 25/08/2019 19:00

We went to see this last night.

I thought it would have made a great 2hr movie, but was overly long at its actual running time of 2hr 41 mins even though the acting was superb.

Puppylucky · 25/08/2019 21:27

We've just seen the movie and I'm really not sure how I feel about it. It was very well acted, beautifully shot and watchable, but I am not comfortable with the way the Manson murders were leveraged - even to the extent of repeating some of the actual reported speech of the killers. This is not a global event like the Second World War where you can play with history for dramatic effect. The Manson murders were the brutal killings of five individuals who still have loved ones who remember them and I am not sure that messing with their story no matter how tragic it was, is respectful.

Toitoitoi · 25/08/2019 22:07

Yes I agree with you to a certain extent @Puppylucky but the idea they got their comeuppance was somehow positive at least Sharon Tate's sister does not feel the film sentionalises the murders.

Puppylucky · 25/08/2019 22:12

Well no it doesn't sensationalise the murders because they don't happen! But it does take a very personal tragedy and (arguably) leverages it for dramatic impact

Cocolapew · 25/08/2019 22:15

I loved it too, DH didn't know anything about the Manson murders and didn't have a clue who other famous people were Hmm so don't really enjoy it as much.
I found the ending very emotional, I was reading about Sharon Tate and she seemed to be very sweet and well liked.
Brad and Leo were fantastic in it.

Toitoitoi · 25/08/2019 22:20

I felt Tarantino wanted the film to be a homage to them if anything Puppylove.

Puppylucky · 25/08/2019 22:25

I have just read an article where QT said he wanted to reclaim Sharon Tate from the horror of her death and I totally agree that he achieved that. It's just the ending I can't buy into!

Toitoitoi · 25/08/2019 22:28

Yes and I'm glad he did try to do that as the murders always haunted me after reading about them years ago. Such a horrific waste of life.

MadisonAvenue · 27/08/2019 13:01

We went to see it yesterday, I loved it. I've never really been a fan of Brad Pitt or Leonardo DiCaprio but I thought they were both outstanding.
Bittersweet to see Luke Perry though.

origamiunicorn · 27/08/2019 18:05

Bittersweet to see Luke Perry though

Shock Luke Perry was in it? Who did he play?!

MadisonAvenue · 27/08/2019 19:40

Luke Perry was the other cowboy in the scene where Rick Dalton was guest starring in the TV series.

origamiunicorn · 27/08/2019 20:08

Ah ok, I can't picture the scene but I believe you Smile

origamiunicorn · 27/08/2019 20:09

Haha! Sorry @MadisonAvenue that really looks like I don't believe you, I didn't mean it to read like that 😂

MadisonAvenue · 27/08/2019 21:45

😂 @origamiunicorn Remember the scene, from the TV show recording, where he'd kidnapped the little girl and after it'd finished she said something like "that was the best acting I've ever seen" to him? The other actor in the scene was Luke Perry.

BelfortGabbz · 28/08/2019 10:51

Saw it last night. I'm a huge QT fan, so went with excited anticipation.
HUGE disappointment!
Great actors, beautiful cinematography but overlong with virtually no plot.
Try harder with the 10th QT.

origamiunicorn · 29/08/2019 06:04

Oh yes I do, oh wow. I will have to rewatch this at some point just to see.

SparklyMagpie · 29/08/2019 06:27

Couldn't agree more with you @BelfortGabbz
Tarantino is my favourite and I have never felt so disappointed, the friend I also went with said the same

SouthWestmom · 01/09/2019 07:27

Went last night with dh and dd - soooo boring! I was really surprised at how much time was spent filming the same type of thing. The humour was dotted around.

I surprised myself by enjoying the last twenty minutes but honestly what a lot of nothing beforehand.

KatherineJaneway · 01/09/2019 07:36

What happened to Brad's character at the end?

SouthWestmom · 01/09/2019 09:41

Last we saw he was in the ambulance.

Was there an end credits? We saw the mid credits one?

KatherineJaneway · 01/09/2019 11:57

Thanks.

I recommend his film Allied if you have not seen it. Really good film ad acting.

SgtFredColon · 01/09/2019 13:54

Funny isn’t it. I don’t really like Tarantino and I loved it!

chemenger · 01/09/2019 16:09

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen another Tarantino film and I loved it. Maybe the message is that it isn’t a film for Tarantino films.
