Eeee lucky you I am desperate to see but no one to go with ! Enjoy !!

augustusglupe · 16/05/2019 09:42

We’re going to go and see it, looks great...although it’ll have to go some to live up to BoRhap Wink

SavageBeauty73 · 20/05/2019 12:31

I too am going tomorrow! Excited

BelfortGabbz · 22/05/2019 22:17

Been tonight. Disappointed really, didn't live up to expectations.
Could easily have skipped the first hour and when it did liven up not enough of the songs were performed.

Came away feeling a bit deflated rather than buzzing like when I saw Bohemian Rhapsody.
Won't be singing it's praises.

SavageBeauty73 · 22/05/2019 22:33

I'm the opposite. I really enjoyed it. Thought it was good.

Davros · 23/05/2019 22:47

Loved it, every minute

Singlenotsingle · 23/05/2019 22:56

I went on my own. DP at work. Thought it was very good but not as good as Bohemian Rhapsody.

augustusglupe · 23/05/2019 23:11

We went tonight, 20 mins in I looked at DH and whispered that it wasn’t a patch on Bo Rhap. But after the first half hour it grew on me and I would see it again. I loved Jamie Bell as Bernie Taupin. Its different to Bohemian Rhapsody but still good.

SleepingSloth · 24/05/2019 17:19

I can't wait to see this. I love Taron and I'm sure he'll be amazing in it.

FannyFeatures · 24/05/2019 17:26

I really want to see this but no one will come with me and I don't have time to see it on my own, gutted.

As a bit of a related rant, Bohemian Rhapsody has put me off "biopics" slightly as I'm a total Queen geek and the inaccuracies bugged the hell out of me, I also didn't like the way Freddie was portrayed in some parts. I have my doubts about how much would've been approved had he been alive to dispute some of it.

But I don't really know much about EJ other than his music so I would probably be oblivious if I'm honest!

cafesociety · 24/05/2019 19:51

Hmm. Maybe my expectations were too high but was a bit disappointed with this. Production [and wigs] could have been better.
But enjoyed it.

Davros · 24/05/2019 20:20

I know a lot about EJ as I was 13 in 1973 so it's totally my era and I was a fan then and now. I knew about John Reid, Dick James and I remember him marrying Renate. Not that I had any inside info but I really "get" the whole thing. I haven't seen Bohemian Rhapsody because I don't like Queen although I remember them from those days too, I would watch it on the telly. Rocketman was made with a lot of involvement from EJ so, for instance, when his mum says something vile it's probably true.

The80sweregreat · 25/05/2019 22:04

I loved it! I wasn't expecting much but the acting was very good.
Had a surreal feel to it at times.

twosoups1972 · 26/05/2019 00:25

Saw it tonight with dh. Thought it was a great film but OMG was it sad. Felt like sobbing all the way through. The way his dad treated him when he had his new life and kids. And when Bernie said 'you're my brother'.

fairydustandpixies · 26/05/2019 00:55

I saw it the other day. Was an absolute sobbing mess. Was relieved to see equally sobbing messy type peeps going home whilst I tried to gather myself together in the foyer...!

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 26/05/2019 18:30

Saw it today. It felt like I’ve just watched Taron Egerton’s life story not Elton John’s 😂. Taron’s more likeable then Elton of course, which is why, though this was amazingly good (brilliant acting by all involved) I don’t think it’ll be as beloved to people as Bohemian Rhapsody, cos what’s not to love about Freddie? Obviously was expecting lots of music but I didn’t realise there would be a ‘musical’ vibe to it (there’s not going to be much adapting to do for the inevitable stage show is there?😂) and that could have been cringe if not for Taron Egerton’s fabulous acting, wonder if he’ll be Oscar nominated? All supporting actors were excellent, especially Stephen Graham, and Leigh Francis/Keith Lemon’s cameo is a bit more noticeable than Adam Lambert’s was in Bohemian Rhapsody! Also thought it was interesting how in BR, John Reid was the ‘goody’ (compared to Paul Prenter anyway) but in this turns out he is definitely not so nice. Overall loved it, and despite EJ not being the worlds most lovable National Treasure, it was good to be reminded just how brilliant his (and Bernie Taupin’s) music was.

Davros · 26/05/2019 19:11

It definitely had a feel of Sunshine On Leith about it but that's Dexter Fletcher for you. I haven't seen BR because imo things like We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions are dire, especially compared to EJ.

LoafEater · 26/05/2019 19:43

Saw it today - loved it. Taron Egerton is a fantastic actor, I love his face. I think his mum was miscast. Why on earth did they not have an English actress? She got the accent really wrong a few times and it just jarred.

This was the only minus point though. The pinball scene was incredible.

Dowser · 26/05/2019 21:35

I don’t know how I felt about it.
I thought Taron was really good and Jamie bell excellent. So understated he acted every one off the screen
I’ve had drama training and yes I felt I was watching a stage show at times
Perhaps that’s the bit I felt a bit meh about

Gone2far · 26/05/2019 23:41

I loved it. and really want to see it again. The inventive use of the music was fantastic, and I couldn't fault it, and I'm normally picky.

secretfreckle · 27/05/2019 00:14

Just got back from seeing it.
Taron Egerton and Jamie Bell were really good and I loved the way it was like a musical. The scene where he was a little boy and everyone in his family was singing 'I Want Love' was a real tear jerker.
Dallas Bryce Howard wasn't great as his mum and very cringy when she was made up to look old near the end. Loved the costumes and glasses!
I saw BR twice at the cinema and loved it. This was also brilliant, but very different.
Going to get my EJ Greatest Hits CD out tomorrow!

The80sweregreat · 27/05/2019 11:52

I really enjoyed Jamie Bell's Bernie Taupin.
When they were chatting in the cafe was so well done. Who knew that a simple meeting like that would lead to some great songs being composed and it was all a fluke too about how they met. It's good they are still friends as they are so different in personalities.
The song and dance scenes were good ; I wasn't really expecting that.

bakedbeanzontoast · 28/05/2019 00:13

I thought it was a 2 hour pity party - of course I enjoyed the music aspects though.

escape · 28/05/2019 00:17

I really enjoyed it apart from the ending!
Bizarre really.

NotAgainKen · 28/05/2019 00:21

went to see it tonight and really enjoyed it, although when the credit to "producer David Furnish" and "executive producer Elton John appeared" it did make me want to yell,. 'NO SHIT, SHERLOCK.' Apparently Elton's now been happily married for 25 years and is loved "properly" and everyone else is just a massive cow.
