Is this Elton’s new venture..going into films

I enjoyed it, not a massive EJ fan, but it made me appreciate his music more, even though he came across as a self pitying drama queen. I did fee for him though, seeing how his dad was with him/his new kids. I know we only have Elton’s side of the story, but seeing his mum’s dismissive attitude to his music and the bit when he asked his dad when he was going to hug him and dad said “don’t be soft” I did think that explains a lot about why he’s so hungry for attention and adoration. I may have shed a little tear at the end when he was confronted by everyone, especially his young self.

I went to see this last night, booked by a friend. I’m not an Elton John fan but I’ve grown up very aware of his music as our NDN loved him in 1975 and told me he was wonderful. I thought it was well done, I liked the flashbacks and lots of it seemed familiar, I remember him & Kiki Dee on Top of the Tops, I think they captured the periods they covered well. I’m glad it ended before LiveAid. I didn’t go and see BohRap as I couldn’t cope with hours and hours of Queen (even though I know all the words).

I wonder if there’ll be an Osmonds or David Partridge film in a couple of years?

I thought it was good but the start was a bit slow and crap. I actually said to my husband this is a bit shit. But then it picked up and I got into it and by the end I thought it was a good movie.

It was good the way we saw the chicken costume come apart as the film progressed then he was in normal clothes at the end.
His parents were awful but his nan seemed nice enough. She was his saviour in the beginning.

It did airbrush a lot I suppose and I did read that the manager wasn't as bad as they made out.
However, he admits he wasn't always sweetness and light himself so it probably was as good a portrayal as you can get of someone's life spiralling out of control.

I thought they conveyed the madness of those touring years in a very effective way, with the repeated scenes of him waking up and not knowing which luxury bedroom he was sleeping in.

Did I miss a fleeting explanation of how his chalk/cheese parents met? I caught the reference to them marrying only because she was pregnant, but out of all the detail of the early scenes, that was something that might have both characters (people?!) seem slightly less two-dimensional.

I loved Jamie Bell's Bernie Taupin, especially with his long hair in the 70s. Couldn't work out what his accent was supposed to be though.

The80sweregreat · 29/05/2019 12:55

Taupin was from Lincolnshire originally but lived in the US once they first went over there i think , although he did go home a few times. He has been married four times so his story is probably just as angst ridden I would imagine! ( I don't know , just guessing) and he has children.

There was an interview with EJ online and he said that Bernie lives on a cattle farm now whilst he collects art and fine porcelain. Chalk and cheese indeed but it worked. I don't usually believe in fate but in this case I think there was a dose of that.
