Saddest film you've ever seen?

So I'm sitting here watching Seven Pounds (Will Smith)
I've seen this film loads of times, but it never fails to make me cry. Like proper ugly cry, tears streaming, everything.
This is the only film that does this to me. I think it's so underrated.

What movies do this to other people??

Coco, I wept like a baby.

I remember being upset at Philadelphia, but haven't watched it since.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is another one.

Amy - the Amy winehouse doc. It's desperately sad

Greenandcabbagelooking · 17/02/2019 09:50

Everest - I watched it on a plane on my own, and the nice Japanese lady next to me kept handing me tissues and patting my hand.

Knackeredmommy · 17/02/2019 09:57

The color purple and truly, madly, deeply.

Bambi. My mum died when I was very little so I think it resonated with me. Saw it when I was about 6. Had to be taken out of the cinema because I was sobbing so hard. Has staid with me for life.

I can’t even think about it without crying.

Joeypotter1 · 17/02/2019 16:42

It's Beaches for me.

flamingtoaster · 17/02/2019 16:51

Never EVER watch "The Day They Gave Babies Away" (1957) - particularly do not watch it on Christmas Eve. My mother and I sobbed our hearts out at it and vowed never to watch it again. It is not helped by the fact that (a) it is based on a true story, (b) it takes place at Christmas, (c) the eldest child is doing this because because the parents have died. It is based in America in the pioneer era.

ladymalfoy · 17/02/2019 16:55

Atonement. I thought for once he’d give his audience a happy ending. Bastard. I find his books all very formulaic so I watched it without having read it. My husband loves his writing and let me think all was well, even to the point of smiling when I thought the main characters were happy.

HugoBearsMummy · 17/02/2019 16:58

@supersonicwoman1 you beat me to it

howmanybiscuits · 17/02/2019 17:07

All or Nothing, by Mike Leigh.

The only film that's ever made me not just cry but sob.

AmIthatbloodycold · 17/02/2019 17:19

MechaStreisand · 24/02/2019 08:24

Project-X - my Dad brought it back from the video shop thinking it was a comedy about cheeky fighter pilot chimps. How very wrong he was...

Dancer in the Dark - Can never watch it again.
