Anyone else seen it yet? Don't want to give anything away, but it was nothing like I expected (all expectation based on the trailers).

Very good film, although I took 2 7 yr olds, and I don't think they were particularly bowled over by it - more suitable for 10yr olds plus, I would say.

really? Ds has seen the trailers and is really keen to see it.
i was hoping to take him in the holidays but as he isn't the most placid of children anyway i think we will choose soemthign else

emsiewill · 28/04/2007 23:11

I really don't want to say too much, but it isn't the next Narnia, as it would seem from the trailers.

I remember reading this when I was little. I thought my ds (8) might like it, but maybe we'll wait until it's out on dvd.

emsiewill · 29/04/2007 10:34

If you've read it, then you will perhaps understand what I'm talking about when I say it's not really what the trailers make out.

Don't get me wrong, both the children I took enjoyed it, but I just don't know if they really "got" it.

Not trying to put people off, just want them to be aware it's not the film you might imagine.

What cert is it? PG? I know the book so I'd know what I was letting myself in for. DD(7) keeps seeing the trailer on Five and wants to see it.

cornsilk · 06/05/2007 07:52

I saw it yesterday. Agree it's nothing like the trailers. Have thought a lot about it since seeing it.

mrsjingles · 07/05/2007 10:10

I agree and actually felt the trailers were really misleading - again wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, but came away feeling v. sad when I was expecting to feel happy - bit hard to explain unless you've seen it. A good film but I wouldn't of taken my 6 & 8 yr old with the knowledge of hindsight.

megandsoph · 07/05/2007 10:13

Took dd6 to see it on Saturday and she loved it!!! Raved for ages after.

megandsoph · 07/05/2007 10:13

OOps not dd6 dd1 who is 6

PestoMonster · 07/05/2007 10:17

My dd1 (nearly 10) went with her class to a preview last week and thought it was rubbish.

Blu · 07/05/2007 10:24

Am I right in thinking it deals with the death of a child? I read the book years and years ago, and remember it as good children's literature, quite profound, and lost of sadness in it. Not a jolly fantasy romp....But films and books are usually moiles apart

Saturn74 · 07/05/2007 10:27

The trailers imply there will be far more about the land of Terabithia than there actually is.
It does deal with the death of one of the main characters, Blu.
The book is lovely.
The film is very much less so, and was a HUGE disappointment to all who saw it with us (two adults, and children aged 11, 9 and 7).

christywhisty · 07/05/2007 15:03

Went to see it with DH DS (11) DD (9)

Both DH and I really enjoyed it, although I cried my eyes out

DS was a bit disappointed because of the lack of action, but wants the dog.

DD loved it and said it was one of her favorite films and when can she see it again.

emsiewill · 07/05/2007 16:41

AAARRRGGGHHH!

I said I didn't want to give away what happens, and 2 of you go and do just that.

for those who have not yet seen the film.

Although I suppose for some children, it may be better that they are forewarned.

I merely answered Blu's question - and neither of us referred to the character by name.

It's a good thing we weren't discussing 'Bambi' or I could really have put my foot in it by referring to his mother!

schnapps · 07/05/2007 19:24

I agree, it was nothing like I expected. It was a totally different genre of film to what I thought it would be. I wish I hadn't seen the trailers because I was disappointed that I didn't get the full-on special effects adventure film that I was expecting, even though it was a really good film.

emsiewill · 07/05/2007 21:13

You mean Bambi's mother dies? Oh my goodness, now I can't watch that...

OP posts:
NKF · 07/05/2007 21:21

What age group is it most suitable for? I can't decide whether to take mine.

Blu · 07/05/2007 23:24

Emsiewill - sorry, but I think it's quite important that people are aware of a main strand of the content - because of the way it is being sold and because people routinely take children to see things they may be too young for if they don't know what it is. Unlike Narnia the book wasn't that well known.

bluesky · 09/05/2007 15:57

it was SO sad.

Agree nothing like we were led to believe. It wasn't about a fantasy land at all, ie Narnia. Lots of characters and huge land and adventure in it.

It was about 2 children who don't fit in at school and their friendship and imagination.

roisin · 13/05/2007 19:58

We went today and all loved it. I sobbed for about 20 minutes! And other bits earlier on were quite heart-wrenching too. The boys (8 and 9) didn't cry, but they enjoyed it immensely. DS1's favourite quote (Einstein) is "Imagination is everything", so he was in his element.

cornsilk · 13/05/2007 20:02

I thought it was very sad, but a good film.

Humphreycushion,

is it true to the book or indeed anything
like the book (which I love too) - trailers
suggest something completely different.
