[Message from MNHQ: There may be spoilers further down this thread. You have been warned...]

I am quite excited about this one. It looks visually stunning and I am looking forward to seeing it next week.

It is an epic length of 2hrs 45 minutes.

did the people who didnt like it like the first one?

I thought it was agreat follow up, considering the 30+ years difference.

CoalitionOfChaos · 12/10/2017 20:56

I haven’t seen the first one so maybe that didn’t help.

NikiBabe · 12/10/2017 23:28

I didnt like the first one ....but loved this one.

As they share the same director I was prompted to watch 2016's Arrival again. Yes, it's still in my top five films ever, just wonderful.

HorlicksBunny · 13/10/2017 16:04

Haven't seen the original in many years, but we did enjoy this new release. In particular, I loved the slow pace (esp compared to the crash bang whallop trailers that preceded the film) and the cinematography was in keeping with the original and visually interesting.

It's amazing to be reminded how much the original Bladerunner has influenced films in the mean time in terms of style / visuals etc.

Not normally a fan of Gosling but he did a good job and I really felt for him when he discovered he wasn't The One.

sonlypuppyfat · 13/10/2017 16:08

I came home and re watched the first one, it's one of my favourite films. The new one doesn't come close

Deathraystare · 13/10/2017 18:13

Hated the bit where his hologram(?) sex doll thing wass fused with a prostitute and also the tall 'woman' who was there for sex. I know the place was meant to be seedy. I missed the toys "Home again home again jiggidy jig!" and wanted to see more of the city in the rain.

Welldoneme · 13/10/2017 19:51

I thought it was crap.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/10/2017 22:10

I really liked it. Really visually and audibly complex, lots to think about and it was really nice to have a film stretch out in such a luxurious manner.
What struck me was the wide range of audience when we saw it. People who were elderly mixed in with teens.

CockacidalManiac · 15/10/2017 22:12

Watched it in 3D imax yesterday. I thought it was stunning.

CockacidalManiac · 15/10/2017 22:13

I loved the way it presented the future of the original, and not our future. The USSR still being active, the Atari and PanAm billboards.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/10/2017 22:14

that’s true!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/10/2017 22:17

I’d like to watch it again soon, but at home so I can pause and enjoy it —and go for a wee if I need to—

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/10/2017 22:18

oh. that didn’t work.

KindraLamb · 17/10/2017 14:39

now, this made me excited to watch the sequel. plus its gosling and ford. Wink

Ulysses · 20/10/2017 07:33

I thought it was stunning albeit slow. Liked the ending but the found the depiction of women throughout really off and it spoiled it for me. Just reminded me off the whole Weinstein thing and the unnecessary use of female flesh.

ShiftyMcGifty · 23/10/2017 00:44

The lighting of that scene with Harrison being interrogated at the company's hq was incredible. I found myself actually leaning forward in my seat to watch Harrison's face change from old to young to old and I couldn't tell if it was just lighting or cgi too.

inchyrablue · 25/10/2017 01:15

I just watched it with the DC. I completely embarrassed them by sobbing out loud when the music from Roy’s death scene in the original film started for Ryan Gosling. The whole thing was magical.

lucydogz · 25/10/2017 23:40

Loved it - the score, the cinematography, even the slow pace. 5 stars

TheLuminaries · 29/10/2017 08:57

I was underwhelmed by Ryan Gosling, he just wasn't a compelling enough screen presence for me. The film was too long and by far the best bit visually was in ruined Las Vegas with Harrison Ford - although HF screen presence did really emphasis Gosling's weakness.

I thought Luv was fantastic. Jared Leto was a pointless self indulgent add on to the film that veered into Bond style silliness.

DeltaWyvern · 29/10/2017 09:10

Didn't like Arrival, and I think the first Bladerunner is groundbreaking but otherwise not more than a 7/10. Loved this film, though. We're moving towards a future where we may well have sentient computers and androids in the next few decades. Usually, sci-fi films take the "it's difficult being human when you're actually a computer / robot" approach (which is what the original did) . This film moves on to the next philosophical stage, asking us how we should view living, feeling intelligences that are definitely not human. In a way, we are playing God with AI and that comes with responsibility. How should we treat our intelligent creations when we've deliberately designed them so they can't be "people" in the normal sense of the word? Do we get to decide what limitations on free will we should program in to them?

powertripe · 29/10/2017 12:38

I was looking forward to it but found it too long and rather dull, though there were a couple of good performances. I think I’ve seen enough similar dystopian futures now.

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 01/11/2017 16:36

I loved it and can't stop thinking about it. Visually stunning, amazing music (listening to it right now!) and I thought a much easier to understand storyline than the original. This is hugely coloured by my love of the novel though.

I didn't like the depiction of (most) women - but in these types of films there are always half naked holograms of prostitutes and strippers. That did disappoint me a little to be honest - was hoping they'd lay off that.

I enjoyed the storyline. It was clever and engaging.

I too want to watch it again at my own pace at home.

Incidentally, I thought Leto a lot more menacing and scary in this than as the Joker. But then, Suicide Squad was possibly the worst film I've ever seen.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 13/11/2017 00:43

Oh dear. I thought it was shockingly dull. Really. slow, overlong, drear but mostly just bloody yawningly dull

Me too. Not a patch on the first one.

ButtMuncher · 17/11/2017 18:01

I loved it. I thought the portrayal of women was exactly what Villenueve was angling at with the dystopian style - it was tough to watch, but he created a nightmarish scenario that really encapsulated just how bad things had become. I felt that was the point. At no point when I watched it did I feel he was trying to glorify women, rather expose how exploitation had gotten so bad.

I found the slow pace a godsend to the heavily edited films of today - it was long and it was gradual but I really really liked it. Weirdly enough Harrison Ford was probably my least favourite actor as Decker - I just couldn't get past the fact he looked old and was running around like he did in Force Awakens, if didn't really feel like a different character.

Luv was superb.
